Great first drops under 200ft

I would have to go with Medusa at Marine World and X.
My god, am I the only one who wasn't jaded by the original layout because I was blown away by the *tiny* first drop on the Riverside Cyclone! The distinctive sound of the car slamming out from underneath you accompanied by mad airtime is one of the best sensations *anywhere* IMO!

I also have to agree with some ealier choices...

the Kennywood Thunderbolt is magnificent in the backseat. I remember riding it for the first time in the front and not being that impressed...then I went back right before the park closed and took a back seater...oh wow! Even though I knew the drop was coming it surprised the hell out of me and gave me a serious tickle all the way down, grade A!

I also agree on the Cornball Express...I'm a back seat fanatic and the yank you get down that beautifully Traver-esque drop has to be ridden to be believed!

Lots of drops just all seem to be the same to me. I don't get that "tummy tickle" sensation that you guys have been talking about anymore.

My vote goes for Magnum and its 194' 8" drop.

Tenn Tornado, Canyon Blaster in Vegas, Phantoms Revenge and Vortex at PKI have great first drops as well.

Legend, Raven, Villian have wonderful ones as well

Some of my favorite first drops are:

Batman Knight Flight
SFGAm's Shock Wave (in the back seat)
Raptor
The Beast
Gemini

X Factor

Viper at Great Adventure - the 89ft Drop feels like 150

Baby, I'm not always there when you call, but I'm always on time.

Montu's sharp left u-turn dip before the drop into the vertical loop.  It feels like someone has given you that extra "umph!" to get you going down that first drop. :)

im suprised only one person out of 88 said Viper @ Six Flags Magic Mountain! That drop is insane..Definitely a classic drop under 200 ft. mark. AND also only a couple of people mentioned the Deja Vu vertical drops. If you havent been on a Deja Vu, get on one and ride in the back row for an insane rush..
The back seat in Loch Ness Monster at BGW is my favorite drop, better than Apollo in my opinion.

I know I am going to get flamed for this, but the Demon at Six Flags Great America has a great drop.  You get enough speed coming around that turn that it really takes the wind out of you when you get yanked into the drop.  The backseat especially get great airtime on that drop.

I gotta agree with you there, Bob. Demon DOES have one of the best first drops around. You're coming around that curve at a good clip then all of a sudden, YANK!!  Right down and into the first loop. If you pick your feet up off the floor, the airtime in insane.

Just call me MPG...

gemini does deliver. I thought I was going to get flammed for that.
Vortex and King Cobra
Ghostrider has a great frist drop at 118 feet. It a great ride.
Some of my steel favorite first drops would be Millennium Force, Gemini, and Vortex at PKI...for wood, Legend, Raven, and Boss have some good ones.  Also, the first split second of Twisted Sisters' drop in the back seat is great.:)
Texas Tornado/Thriller is awesome! The back is the best.

Another good one is Timber Wolf at Worlds of Fun.

Ghostrider- no contest!
Top Gun@PGA has an awsome first drop, but my #1 first drop under 200 feet definentaly goes to Buolder Dash, your at the the top of the lift and take a slow turn thru the forest into a straight away, but you wouldn't know that right out of the forest comes a swooping 146 foot drop, and the curving hill that  follows the curved drop is simply smashing.

Another ride, Riverside Cyclone, was ranked as the best wooden coaster drop until it's reprofile by Six Flags :( .

I also have to say that Demon's drop can be pretty boring, counting that the drop feels as long as the length of the train, but makes the loops feel awsomes giving you that slow floating feeling through the loops while you're hanging over that rock, but that added brake after vertical loop that cuts the turnaround to about 8 mph took Demon of my favorite list.

Demon was my first steel looper, I can't believe that dumb ladies lawsuit ruined it, they also took out all the theming,(rock tunnel, tunnel though the loop, Demon face, fountain all gone because her some fell out of Drop Zone even though he loosened the restraints on a free fall.)

For me it's gotta be

Magnus Colossus at Terra Mitica (Alicante, Spain)

it's not the height or anything else, but the coaster is in a spot thats blasted out of the side of a mountain.  So as you take that first drop - the view is of the whole of Benidorm, making it seem that your about 2 miles up.

Now, for me, that is a rush......................

MORE NEWS COMING SOON...

OOOOH, one more great first drop is on the coaster I marathoned on the last time I went to a park; the "wonderful" Arrow creation ANACONDA @ PKD. In the backseat being whipped over the top and tossed to the left is great! (Much like on ROAR, Lighting Racer, Wildcat, blah, blah, blah,)
