GL's Steel Venom probably also on it's way out....

Well, SV is probably hitting the bricks too it seems. In the new 2007 group planning guide for CP/GL(looks like they will be promoting the parks together this year) the GL map shows no SV, and it's spikes are airbrushed out in the background of the one photo of the floating bridge. It wasn't a mistake, it was delibrately removed. The pdf is straight from CP's website. Click the 2007 group information and catering guide...:

That side of the park looks so barren now on the park map. :(

I don't think this is much shock to anyone who has ever been to GL, especially in the last 3 years or so. Attendance is so low that some coasters need to be moved in order for the park to make a better profit. SV was in the same area as Xflight was, so remving that is probably no big surprise. Not to mention that now CF can add that coaster to a different park and advertise it as a new attraction without having to spend the cash on a real new attraction. I would expect it to end up at MIA. Also, don't be surprised if at least one of the other coasters is removed also. Maybee the double loop??
Let the speculation begin on where it's going.

It'd make a fitting replacement for HS:XLC<if they can get it working again> & KI already recieved XF so they'd be ruled out.

Now they could've chosen to remove it from the map simply because the ride will be SBNO this season for possible repairs & they don't want to give indications of a ride being in the park that isn't going to be running any time soon.

KD doesn't need a replacement for HSXLC, Carowinds needs ANYTHING. I am rallying as of right now: SV for Carowinds, plz.

ugh

its getting harder to support my park...

but hey come visit me at Dominator this summer...at least that ride will still be there.

I don't get this. Attendance is sagging at the park, so the solution is to get rid of reasons for people to go to the park?

I know what you're going to say... diversify capital. But I don't buy into that. Maybe the park doesn't need ten coasters right now, but what's to say they're not going to in the future if things pick up (which I would expect CF would want)? Just because I don't need all my summer clothes right now doesn't mean I'm going to donate them to the Salvation Army. I know that, come summer, I'm going to need them.

Marketing GL along with CP makes some sense since the parks are so close to one another, but why not do something to help the park along rather than continually hurt it? I fail to see how stuff like this is going to help.

I must live in an alternate dimension.

During a 2004 vacation, my wife and I made stops at 3 Cedar Fair parks... MIA, CP and GL.

Now I hear that Cedar Fair is, piece by peice, dismantaling our favorite of the three. Just glad we got there when we did.

Hehehe, you're a few months too late, the specultion began midseason '06... ;)

I agree, mass removal of attractions at a park that wants to increase attendance is not necessarily a good thing. The monorail family attraction is also removed from that map. Ride rotation would make better sense, but considering that 3 attractions have been removed (2 of which sat idle last year) with nothing in return, it makes a trip to that park much less appealing in 2007.

It seems like Cedar Fair is just attempting to bring Geauga Lake back to where it was before the flagging. Maintaining several "big" rides at a park with horrible attendance isn't going to help restore GL to its previous balanced co-existence with the surrounding parks. Cedar Fair might as well spread the wealth around. It sucks for locals, but it's the smartest move for Cedar Fair to make.

Finally, they're coming to their senses.

Now, we just need the flying scooters back... :)

GL wants to make money more than it wants to increase attendance. Hey, if you can increase attendance at the same time, that's great, but the bottom line is what counts. GL just got rid of a significant amount of maintenance costs. Will the loss of those rides stop most families from coming to the park? I don't think so. X-Flight and Superman were hardly family rides. The monorail is negligible.

CF is just un-doing the mistakes made by Six Flags. With CP so close, GL will do just fine at a level similar to ValleyFair or WoF, but that's it. Better to do it sooner than later.

It's all part of Cedar Fair's 5-year plan to turn the park. We'll take out all the rides that people did or didn't like, piss of the general public and the enthusiasts off to the point where they don't want to come back to the park, and then surprise everyone by adding a major attraction that would bring everyone back to the park and make up for all the down times. Probably be too little too later for Cedar Fair but I guess we'll have to wait add see on that one.

If the do remove SV, its not going to affect me. I really didn't care to much about the impluse coaster when they came out.

I could see Boomerang going to MiA. I don't think it's really doing any good at Geauga.

Getting rid of high-maintenance rides is one thing, but why not replace them with something else? How about some flats? An interactive darkride? A small steel coaster or two? Deleting rides without replacing them is sending the wrong message to people.

Ahhh! That's the coaster that got me started back in the summer of 1982!! They'd better not or I'll have to go there and lay some smack down...

Yeah, ok, sorry.

You have got to be the only person I've ever hear say they like GL over CP.

As far as Steel Venom going, I think people brought that up a long time ago. The park just can't support rides with maintenance costs like Six Flags added. They can't compete with Cedar Point when it comes to rides. But, they can compete for the people who want a local "watering hole" with some rides. That's what GL always used to be, and it looks like CF is trying to bring that back. I say more power to them.

If I had to guess, I'd say SV is going to Dorney.

Hmmm. There WAS that Dorney power line rumor thread just a little while back... ;)

I also prefer GL to CP. The crowds are much easier to deal with and the park still has something resembling small, traditional park atmosphere. The Big Dipper is a great wood coaster and if Villian would return to its old form, the park would have a great one-two wood coaster combo. CP has its advantages but I'm more for the smaller parks like GL.
