GL Announcement Nov 10

as far as animals: CP said they had no interest in having animals. i saw what six flags did to that side of the Park. If you have no interest in animals, why have any? Those types of animals are not cheap to maintain... were they a draw? Yes. My kids and i had a blast watching the shows.
Did CP have an aquarium about 20 years or so ago? I remember one, but don't know hwat happened to it...

Am I the only one who realizes to build a hyper in time for opening, a park must start some ground clearing/construction (*not* just "marking trees") by now?

I remember when Raging Bull was being built, things started in August, with the heavier construction coming in early September. And that ride was pretty much built on flat ground near a parking lot.

I'm thinking we're reading too far into that headline. I don't think there's going to be a new hyper sprouting up this winter at GL.

OMG I have a new sig!!!
I enjoy animals at the zoo. I think a B&M mega/hyper would be a great addition to GL. Personally I'd prefer a layout like Apollo's Chariot.

Well...

We know the Hook's Lagoon is coming this year. That means it is unlikely for any other water park improvements.

Bill Spehn said at CoasterCon that the park WOULD be getting a hypercoaster. (http://coastermadness.blogspot.com/2004/07/coastercon-part-2a-geauga-lake.html)

The only question is if that will be happening this year.

I don't think a hyper will make it to the park next year either. I think it'd be nice, but unlikely at this point.
I still think it'd be a good idea to contract out the Columbus or Toledo zoo (is Cleveland's zoo as well known as either of those two?) to come in and run the wildlife side. That way you get the benefit of the animals, but there's a company in there that knows what they're doing and knows what they're getting into.

While a B&M hyper that close by would be nice, I'm not sure if it's really what the park needs - although it would bring in the people, and be a good place to start making the distinction between SFWoA and GL.

I'm with Joe on this one. I would think that any kind of major coaster would have had some bit of visibility at this point in terms of construction.

You know, the reason half of the water park didn't open this year is because it wasn't safe. I have a feeling that maybe that's why it wasn't pushed very hard this year in the marketing.

Regardless, with the inexpensive upgrade to my CP pass, I'm sure I'll be making a lot more visits in 2005.

Cleveland Zoo is known as well as the Columbus Zoo, or better.

In 2005, GL needs to bring the FAMILY back, not just use a slogan to try to get you in.

FAMILY Amusement park to me is affordable for the family to go, have enough to do to keep the ENTIRE family happy, and to listen to FAMILY's suggestions, not just coaster enthusiasts.

Until GL does these 3 things, I will not be going back.

...sorry, Bill, but 'Dad' isn't bringing his 'daughter' just so she can go and spend his money...'Dad' wants something fun to do himself! At least at CP, Dad can enjoy the resort part of the complex....how about asking 'Dad' what he wants at GL?

IMO, The 'Family' in this amusement park left because there were too many changes that us 'regulars' had to be go thru, plus the loss the animals and their animal participation shows, and the awesome non-animal shows left, the beautiful general scenery and atmosphere on the southside disappearing or being closed off, as well as missing family rides and the new height requirements that were odd in many cases (48" to be allowed to get wet behind the splash wall on Shipwreck Falls) GL closed too much not even related to the animals, and it's going to take more than the 'traditional' planning to get the 'family' back in. The 'ghosttown' (not to convey a Halloween atmosphere) I attended 2 weekends ago for 'The Haunt' proved just that, with shops and stores closing 1 hour early, cause the park was empty too early.

I've been pretty oblivious to the goings on at Geauga Lake, but with how the statement about the announcement is given, it seems like it has to be something big, like the hyper.

I'm not sure what the best option would be for the park. Between B&M and Intamin it would be much less unique for the region to build an Intamin hyper, and there may be some reliability/liability concerns with the company. If they choose B&M, its would be a more original approach since there are only like 2 B&M hypers in the country. Decisions, decisions...

It's still me, here from the beginning back in 1999. Add 1500+ posts to the number I have in the info section if you care about such things.
CPgenius there are 3 B&M hypers in the country. I think of this often because I've been on 2(AC and RB) and I drool thinking of Nitro! ;)

My bad, I always forget about Nitro for some reason. I haven't been on any of them sadly...hopefully sometime I'll have enough extra money and time to go on a coaster trip.

Seems like no ones every happy with this park, regardless of if it's run by SF or CF. Maybe it's time for Great American Family Parks to step in. ;)
I'd give CF a few years to turn things around. More than anything, the park needs stability when it comes ownership and management. With time, patience and money, Geauga Lake can be turned into a fantastic facility that blends the best of traditional and theme parks.
I agree with Rob :)

Pffffffffffft. They had surveying marks for VF's SV by August--and that was half a coaster going up in a parking lot.

NOTE: Severe fecal impaction may render the above words highly debatable.

I'd imagine the biggest part of the project to be the excavation of dirt and the pouring of fillers... the structure of a coaster can rise in a month or so. How long did it take Xcelerator to get built once the ground work was done? Three weeks? Maybe four?
at coaster con they sed that the pepsi plunge was going to be torn down
Not being too familiar with the park, what is Pepsi Plunge?
maybe CFair is going to Merge w/flags...
how's that for Devils advocate?
please don't lynch me all at once... lol
