GL Announcement Nov 10

According to some people I talked to about the Thunderhawk markings, it's for a crane to do some track testings and Xrays.

As for moving the water park, I don't think they should, or have to do that. It would be a HUGE waist of money/time/etc.

The waterpark already sits on "hilly" terrain. There is only 2 water slides (right now) that use the actual hill. Heck, if they use the cliff they could really come up with some cool slides.

Why tear down all those well maintained buildings over on the former Wild Life side for a water park? Why move a waterpark, when it's nice where it's at. It has a good layout (when it's all up and running). MOST stuff is new. Etc.

As for the Log ride. After riding Double Loop...which is still the smoothest Arrow is existence...I don't see a lot coming out of the move. The would however have to make a new "pool" for it. Which logically would mean the Marsh area over in Happy Harbor, unless they made a new one. They would also have to move 1 building to clear up the midway there. The biggest bottleneck is the skiJUMP show when it's going. Which also could be why the crane is there...to move that. People watch that, clogs up the midway, which is already bad enough in Power City. IT's AWEFUL!!

I think they might also be moving the boardwalk soon again.

Anyone wonder why not open up the wooded path all year? It's quiet, clean, and nice. I can understand moving the zebras, but there must be A LOT of surveying going on or something. It just seems very odd not to use it all year long and then the comments from GL's GM. Makes me wonder.

I could see GL moving Head Spin also, that would be an easy move.

There is so many things that can be done. This is a lot like playing RCT :)

i agree with you RCGOD. D-Loop is one of the smoothest left. (my fav arrow looper is Tennessee tornado, DWood)
i think they can chuck HeadSpin and not many would miss it.
moving the water park would be a huge undertaking, both in money and time.
I too would not like it if they took out the buildings on the old animal side. personally, i liked just walking around there and did that frequently. It was peaceful there... My daughter and i would stroll around that side of the park for hours, taking a break from being coaster nuts...
I know we'll be getting season passes this year for GL and CP... WHere else in the country can a person have access to that many coasters in less than an hours drive away? (i live in Cleveland) 26 coasters... wow

You're kidding, right? According to that Discovery special, they have more "slide-feet" than any other park in North America, and it's all packed into that gang-bang corner of the park with nowhere to go. It's crowded, it's too dense, and it's a dump. Moving it wouldn't be a "waist" at all, it would be an investment that would correct decades of poor planning.

Maybe 'waist' was a freudian slip... I saw a lot of waists the last time i was at the waterpark at gl/6flgs. no complaints...

The last expansion of the waterpark sucks since you have to walk out of the waterpark and through an eating area to get to them. Moving it accross the lake would be an awesome move and would allow continued expansion.
I think that Wof/OoF does it right. Their water rides are right next to the water park (I know, they charge separate admission fees). This makes it easy though for the water park peeps to go on non-water park rides. It also makes sense in terms of the water in the park. OoF also has a separate adult pool (drinking, smoking, bar in the pool, etc), that was blast. That would be great at GL. I know that GL is promoting itself as a "Family Amusement Park", but can't everyone in the family have their own place to go?

Dorney does the same thing, you can walk from the waterpark to the two major water rides with your swim suit. Allthough not entirely succesfull, it is cool to be able to ride water rides and not get your clothes and shoes all wet.
I wouldn't say GL has no where to go with the waterpark. They still have quite room by the Ballroom, down by sting ray slides, all the area around Hook's Lagoon. And they still haven't even utilized that awesome boardwalk along the lake down there, that next to no one knows about. I think it just takes good planning.

Could the water park be moved? Yes, I just think why move it when it works. I do however think they need to get ride of the 4 entrance points into it and get rid of a lot of the blacktop.

As for the waterpark this year, it was one of the least busiest sections of the park. BUT in fairness, the weather effected water parks A LOT this year. The Plain Dealer even did an article on the GL waterpark and how "1/2" it was closed down this year (in reality it was aound 1/3.) I personally think the water park keeps people spread out pretty good while not having to make guests walk very far in bare feet. One of the worst parks for being WAYYYyy to spread out is PKI's water park.

From CP's point though, I look at it a few ways. It would make it easier for them to have "2" parks and thus utilize that other parking lot. On the bad note. I don't think it would really open up as much land vs. money in the long run...unless they charged admission for the waterpark (and we know how the local citizens and kids would like that ;) )

I also think there is no desired need to move the water park at this time. With the exception of making a new Hook's Lagoon, the waterpark is in pretty good shape, and still has what can be considered as "New attractions" for guests to enjoy. Still to much of a new factor. But if you wanted to move things around, nows a better time than later for anything. People are expecting BIG changes for next year. If the park can fufill it's promises, we'll have another SFWoA case on our hands (though CF hands IMO are the right ones for it.)

I think it's fine where it's at, plus it's tradition where it it's at. They do however need another changing room.

I don't think they will be charging extra for the waterpark because the waterpark combo pass for GL/CP doesn't say that HH is a seperate admissions as SC/OoF.

what we all need to realize, is that cf knows that in order to bring guests back, the park is gonna have to be as big, if not bigger, than woa was. maybe even use the old south parking lot for more park. however, they are obviously working on building shows and attractions to bring the south side back to life. plus if they are expanding hooks lagoon, replacing, why the heck would they move the whole park? plus, they already have said that some of the entrances are gonna change to the water park, to make it easier to get to hurricane mountain, without walking out and around. the south side is probably part of the big annoucement. it will be fully open, full circuit park once again, then they can concentrate on that new coaster for maybe 2006 2007. but flat rides, and other shows and attractions is what i see going on over there next year. they know thats a beautiful side of the park, they know people loved just being in the presence of it, so why destroy it ? sure maybe escavate land for some rides, but leave the general look alone. south side, thats the big thing. once it is open, lets face it, its a monster park then. and if they use the old parking lot like i said, that would be a massive park. huge. though keeping the lot, and expanding other directions could work.

I think it makes perfect sense to move the whole waterpark on the old wild-life side...

"What everyone has been waiting for", is kinda paraphrasing what they're going to be announcing, right? Well this is my small theory on what COULD be done if they're going to be dumping a few bucks into the park during the off-season:

1) The waterpark is moved to the old wild-life side, which has a 2-fold benefit.
-- a) The old Sea Wold entrance could be utilized for guests who only want to goto the waterpark.
-- b) This will utilize the park in its entirety, give a little greenspace where it currently is now, and let the waterpark be together as a whole instead of crammed a little here & a little there in its old location.

2) Repainting of a couple coasters/rides. This will completely abolish any image that was Six Flags & create the illusion that this is indeed Cedar Fair & they mean business!
-- Along the same lines, ride shuffling... they may take couple rides and place them in a different location not because they want to create confusion, but to better control the flow of traffic. I can't tell you how many times I was there at night & just... well, I just got lost because I hit a couple dead-ends!

3) Finally... you can't just shuffle things around, paint them & expect everyone to come back. They need something new to draw guests & basically advertise. So I'm just predicting a decent sized attraction that'll help draw in the crowds. Drop tower? Maybe, hyper? Possibly. A few flats? Perhaps... I don't really know, but it should be something along the lines of a ride.

That's mu guess... unfortunately I dont think the animals will be returning as much as I'd like it... but I do think they will be doing a LOT of off-season work to get this park up to snuff!

If it were me (I always say that...but it is never me) I would couple the relocation of the existing water park and slides with a brand new, world's largest/longest Master Blaster. That would truly make it the Cedar Point of waterparks.

The question is: What to do with the indoor venues and stadiums of Sea World?

There is something cool I'd like to see done to that Pirates: 3D theater. Overseas at a park that is built around the various filmed concepts of IMAX, OmniMAX, etc there is a theater that is "wet". Basically, you are shown a movie with various water elements (like kayaking down a river) IMAX style but they have real water effects in the theater. You get splashed when something similar happens on screen. I don't think there is anything like that in the US.

They could put a high dive show in one of the bigger stadiums I suppose. But, removing those two stadiums (both build on a sizable hill) would open up space for water slides. Of course, the top of that hill would be a prime location for a hotel...overlooking the lake...so maybe they can preserve that area.

I will say this...if they have this as a separate gate then they better lower the admission price at Geauga Lake to reflect the fact that the waterpark isn't there. If they don't I think the complaints will continue to stream in...no pun intended.

I don't buy many rumors, but I have a feeling that there will be a new waterpark on the sea world side since that area has the closest neighbors and there was that agreement years ago not to build mechanical rides over there.

I think Cedar Fair are very concious about their neighbors.

I think you would end up with a nice view of the strip malls rather than the lake with a hotel on the hill.

I was actually thinking the same thing with that and/or the Rotor

That brings up another point...how much is the land going for accross the street? We all know CF likes to buy and sell land :) The land right across the street from the waterpark looks to be clearing out (while probably for a new gas station) it would be cool to have the water park expand and have a bridge maybe? As for land they already have but don't utilize, there is the land around Happy Habor (possibly use the lower parking lot), Then there's that old marsh land (or old horse track I think it use to be) but I know there are some Ohio marsh laws. I wonder if GL/CF can have more luck with buying that little piece of land by the Ballroom?

Another thing I've been looking at, Neptune falls uses A LOT of land and has a very low thrill factor. If GL removes those slides, there is a lot of land under that to work with also. Those slides have had A LOT of problems ever since they took off the fourth slide. And even after that, I think the park has had only 2 slides running. Those also emptied down into Hook's Lagoon.

One question about the Hook's Lagoon (assuming it gets built in the same place) will it be the same size? The former Hook's Lagoon was pretty big, and as many know, actually extended towards Stingray Slides. Compared to most water play attraction that mostly stay right around the main structure.

As for hotels:

I think they should build cottages along the lake in the campgrounds. BUILD a hotel by Grizzly run (back there in that part of the parking lot) and have an entrance to the park by Grizzly Run and RWB. The current GL hotel is dwarfed by the Bertram (definetly recommend staying there!)

i originally thought the idea of moving the water park to the animal side would be wrong. Then i started thinking that if they 'resorted' the Animal side, put the water slides there, making them separate, like CP, with a Hotel and such, it might be beautiful.
Here's why i think a resort might work on the animal side: Close proximity to indians games for dad, loads of shopping for mom down the road. 25 mins from major Cleveland museums and the Zoo,even Blossom music center.
Granted, CP is not far from Cleveland, a tad over an hour, but what would you rather drive, 25 to 30 mins or over an hour for add'l stuff? (i'm not praising Cleveland, i've lived here my entire life, but people do come here to see this stuff.
just an idea...

c'mon guys, the water park is not moving. It is included in next year's season pass first of all, and when they said they are replacing hook's lagoon, they ment right there, in that area. You get the most sun in that spot, thats what people want, is sun, and fun. Trees and fun, I don't think so. look, let's be realistic. there is no time to build an entire waterpark in only months. if so, we would have seen many buildings coming down, and dirt being dug. or else they would never make a 2005 deadline. the park is going to be BIGGER. like six flags only ceadr fair's way. make a full circuit around the lake, as before, but, change midways and ride locations. more feasable to walk through easily and enjoyably. it is gonna be november, there is no way of moving the waterpark to the other side by summer 2005. probably by august or september 2005, which means, no. sorry, but that is just to way out there of an idea.
