Geauga Lake site launched following acquisition by Cedar Fair

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Cedar Fair has launched GeaugaLake.com. The company announced March 10 that it would acquire the park, formerly known as Six Flags Ohio and Six Flags Worlds of Adventure, from Six Flags.

Visit GeaugaLake.com.

I hope Head Spin isn't in Beaver Land...that would be a violation of the FCC, I'm sure.

Y'know...is Beaver Land Mine Train supposed to be a mine train in Beaver Land, or will it be a train themed to a beaver that travels through a mine field?
I've never known adrenaline junkies to be a happy bunch...

I don't know what you people expected, this is from a company that names rides "Troika", "Scrambler", and "Wave Swinger".
As long as they run the coasters efficiently, who cares what they call them! Long live Geauga Lake!
As we all know, feelings can be percieved in very different ways from e-mail, forums, instant messages etc. and also allows people to throw out opinions and thoughts without carefully looking over the content. At that moment I was annoyed, but now I could care less. Steel Venom at ValleyFair works well, and that is all I care about. Besides, Cedar Fair finally got rid of Six Flags' uncreative "Batman" names.
The thing about the "name game" is that they had a relatively short period of time to get these things changed. IF you already had the trademarks on certain names, why wouldn't you use them? It's just business smart! I do think they could have picked some better names, but that is all hindsight now. Let's see how the park does now as Geagua Lake and hold off judgement until CF:LP has one season with the park under its belt.

I wonder how much retheming they will be able to accomplish before May 1, even regarding little things like switching the Batman music. I'm still hoping that this park will get a dark ride in the future, especially since one of my all time favorite Cedar Points ride was the Pirate Ride and, after all, Kennywood and Knoebels, two "traditional family parks" have such attractions! If they keep the south side of the park, I hope they develope this area along such lines. Also, I noticed on the new website that they have a poll regarding the Geauga Dog.

"As you may presently be well aware, my grammer sucks. We're now going to commence operation bomb the crap out of your house ... the guy who makes up the names is on vacation ..."
E. Peterbus Unum Whatdo i win!?!?!? the names are weird
Zar, worst comes to worst, they can just remove the sound card from the card reader! It's like ejecting a CD, honest.
.. ahhh.. Minuteman card readers... expect to see those dissapear sometime soon with new technology.. hehehe
Did anyone read the "story" on the transitions page? In 1996, the park introduced the "one-of-a-kind" Mind Eraser, which happens to be a Boomerang?
I will enjoy the coaters, I approve of the names! :) :) :) Can't wait till opening.
I really don't care what they call the rides or the park, it does't matter. I just happen to be one of those "lucky" people to have gotten vouchers for a ticket from the "Read to Succeed" program, along with a coupon. Now I'm going to have to drive an hour more to Wyandot Lake to use them.*** This post was edited by Kurra 4/11/2004 1:58:14 AM ***
well, with just short notice and a hurry to get the park sudo -renamed and up to simi- par. I think that the names of the exsisting rides that Cedar Fair had to rebadge is a job very well done. You have to take into consideration the time frame and the trade marks... Some of the rides are dups but in the long run easier and quicker to rebadge. here are some more fast facts... Gothom city will be Power City" X flight same name, Bobs' same name, Double Loop, same name,Mind Ereaser, now ThunderHawk"Batman, now Dominator"MindEreaser, now Headspin"Superman , now Steel Venom" and everyone has forgotten the Kiddie steel coaster which is now called Beaver Land mine train"I was very pleased to hear that the wildlife side will remain open (minus the animals and aquatic life)this year also . There are some good attractions on this side and its Landscape very nicely to take a walk and a break from thew other side. Good job Cedar Fair..
Here is what I think. First the names have nothing to do with the rides. The next thing is, if you were to read the press release on virtual midway, which is a cedar point off shoot website, you would also hear from the ceo of cedar fair on his plans. He said they are thinking about building a roller coaster similar to the magnum. Now where does that put it. I say put it on the sea world side. I hated it anyway. You people complain too much about a good thing. Cedar Fair owns Geauga Lake. They want people to spend two days or more in Ohio. So that means we are only getting the best. So those of you who dont live in Ohio (suckers) yer just pissed your missing out on alot. God It must be nice to live a half hour from Geuaga Lake and an hour from Cedar Point, Well I do so eat crow. Maybe you should too.
MagnunBarrel (you spelled Magnum wrong;)), what do you mean by names that have nothing to do with the rides? Do you really want to see more rides called "The Flying Coaster"?

Oh, I also have to mention that I don't care that I don't live near Cedar Point. The fact that you think you're better than the rest of us because you do is just scarry.

Just heard today that 4 rides/exhibits will be gone from Geauga Lake for 2004, besides the animals....all being on the ex-Wildlife side...

(1) Killer Bee's flat ride that was by the Danimals sponsored eatery

(2) Starfish flat ride that was not far from Killer Bee's

(3) Mission: Bermuda Triangle, meaning the retrofit for Stargate 3000 was cancelled

(4)Pirates 4D Theatre, which was one of the best experiences at the park! This WILL be missed. CF might be considering turning the auditorium into an event and show arena for 2005?
