Geauga Lake site launched following acquisition by Cedar Fair

Cedar Fair has launched GeaugaLake.com. The company announced March 10 that it would acquire the park, formerly known as Six Flags Ohio and Six Flags Worlds of Adventure, from Six Flags.

Moosh,

I fully agree with what you said. I just don't understand the whole name/color complaint when it comes to rides.. It just seems a bit silly to me to waste so much negative energy on something that has no effect for something that's supposed to be positive.

Confusing huh?

What's next? Blaming a new name for the reason a ride has increased roughness?

-Spidey (formerly known as Sean)

The site looks good enough, though I would like to see a park map on it, like the Cedar Point site has, and some indication of what's become of the themed areas, i.e. Coyote Creek, Gotham City, etc., unless if I somehow missed these sections.
Well, I can finally sleep at night now ;)

Anyone notice the VERY old pic of Serial Thr....errr...Thunderhawk? It's from it's opening year. No BKF behind it, it's reversed, and you can barely make out RWB in the background.

I like all the names (for a short amount of time to come up with them and all the rights and what not) EXCEPT the added word Hannanh. What's up with that? Anyone know if the GM or any CF manager's have a daughter named Hannah? They could have at least pick something to do with the park's tradition or something.

I think the logo is a little weak, but it will work. I personally like logos where you don't need the background to complete them.

I'm VERY VERY happy they are keeping the South side open. That at least adds hope in that it will be open in the long run, and they will work with it.

They are working on new shows for 2004 which is a nice promising future.

I'm happy they aren't totally gutting out the kid's areas...yet. And that they realize this park has one HECK of a great thing for families with little ones.

They are opening back up the picnic areas under Villain and Double Loop...that'll help out guests (that don't throw rocks) ;)

Nice to see they are keeping Oktoberfest and the Halloween festival (I wonder if it will be toned down like CP's or they will be using the old SFWoA props?)

Pepsi....FINALLY!! :)

Those are just a few initial thoughts :)

I was kinda hoping the Snoopy gang would be a part of the whole Geauga Lake thing, but at least initially, it doesn't appear so.

I don't care about new rides at GL... I could spend hours upon hours there riding the same old things just because the rides are such good quality.

Dave/RideMan, the Thriller Bees and Starfish were located closer to the Whale Stadium, so naturally those will not be open May 1st. However, with the Silver Bullet, Star Fish, Muzic Express and Thriller Bees all sitting around, I'm sure CF is going to want to move these rides back in regular use at this, or other Cedar Fair properties.

Question about that Pepsi...I don't eat or drink certain things at amusement parks, and carbonated beverages is one of them. On top of that, most Pepsi products make me ill, so they'll be serving Lemonade or lemon or flavored Iced Tea, but not that nasty Lipton Brisk Tea , I hope. Best ICED TEA is Raspberry flavored, and the peach is very good too :)*** This post was edited by midwave 4/9/2004 3:49:40 AM ***
I think the new website looks great. Its easy to use like already said. It shows great pictures of the park on nice sunny afternoons. The sky is blue, and the rides are glossy. As for the water park name, that is the only thing I dont understand. They just thought to rymne Hurricane with a name, such as Hannah?

I cant wait to see what Power city looks like. The only thing, I think that sucks about the whole change is not being able to save money using my Sixflags season pass. I have plans to stop at the park on my way to "The Mecca" (Cedarpoint) But now I have to dish out more money, and no one likes to do that. Overall everything looks great, and I cant wait to hear some trip reports on May,1st.

On another note...regarding that 'new' website....Is it me, or doesn't the GM of 'Geauga Lake' want to reconsider that photo on his Letter from the GM page at http://www.geaugalake.com/public/transition/letter.cfm

If I was a new person to the area, and saw that look on his face, I'd be afraid if I said something bad about Cedar Fair, or Geauga Lake, he might attack me. Is that his homage to the former presence of 'TAZ' at SFWoA? I'm going to say it was bright and sunny that day, but then I'd have to say 'Why are you dressed up? It's an amusement park, not Sunday School!" O'Geez....LOL

You are criticizing the way the guy looks? Nice. Cedar Fair managers wear shirts and ties because they are professionals. Nothing wrong with that.

As for queue closing times, the point made earlier that these kids all have to drive home is a valid one. I also think it might have to do with keeping the neighbors happy. At Cedar Point noone is disturbed if TTD runs until 1:00 in the morning. The touchy Geauga Lake neighbors already complain enough without making matters worse by running rides until their lines empty.

Hurricane Hannah is a decent name. It used to be that all hurricanes were named after women (for obvious reasons). As a South Floridian I am just glad they didn't call the place Hurricane Andrew's.*** This post was edited by wahoo skipper 4/9/2004 9:39:25 AM ***

You just reminded me of a quote from the Simpsons, Wahoo.

Kent Brockman: "And if you think naming a destructive storm after a woman is sexist, you obviously have never seen the gals grabbing for items at a clearance sale."

Been waiting for a long time to see what the names were going to be and the deal with the season passes.

As far as the rides go, the new names are good choices. We figured that Superman would get changed to Steel Venom since that most impluses at CF parks are called (with the exception of Wicked Twister). As far as the new name for TCFKABKF, it'll take some time in getting use to it...should of called it Intimidator :) . TCFKAME new name "Headspin" fits its profile, and I think TCFKAST new name thunderhawk is pretty cool (just needs a new print job).

The saddest news is that Coke is out the door, and Pepsi is coming in. To borrow a line from coasterpunk ~ "OH THE HUMANITY! "

I cannot fathom what wicked force has possessed the executives at Cedar Fair to bestow these wretched monikers upon the Geauga Lake coasters that formerly boasted such striking, original, and meaningful titles like Batman: Knight Flight and Superman: Ultimate Escape. How could these men, in good conscience, betray the forever-loyal, lovingly devoted (and never-argumentative) enthusiast community with the metaphorical b****-slap-upside-our-collective-head of uninspired names such as Dominator or Steel Venom? I'm sitting here reeling at what has become the most devastating, life-altering event in human history. I cannot think straight. My Head is Spinning (LOL!!1!!11!!!!111six). I have to end it all--I cannot remain on this hateful planet any longer. I have been violated of all trust I have had for the human race...or at least the dudes that came up with the coaster names. Goodbye, cruel world!

C'mon folks...do you really give a s***? The names are fine.

Vater gets it!
I'm just suprised that SFI let CF use the name "X-Flight" after going through the hassle of having it registered and all... (reg. # 2,613,436 though it is technically registered as X Flight (no hyphen)). I dont know why SF would let it go, moreover, I dont know why CF would want it (just lame).

What ev!

jeremy

"As you may presently be well aware, my grammer sucks. We're now going to commence operation bomb the crap out of your house ... the guy who makes up the names is on vacation ..."

Between X-Flight's description and people's whining, I'd say that applies (bonus points if you can name the show and episode!)

And I started that whole extra-long acronym thing, so you folks outta just knock it the heck off ;) (ahh my contribution to the world ... how pathetic)

Not that I login very often to post my opinion, but after reading this, I have to pipe in.

First, everyone agreed that it was a good thing that SF bought GL. Second, people were complaining "Why can't SF be original with their ride names, Batman this, and Superman that". Third, everyone was complaining about the poor service. Fourth, everyone agreed that it was a good thing CF bought SFWOA/GL. Fifth, everyone was asking: what are they going to rename the rides? (everyone had their opinions, and several were right ... i.e. Steel Venom) Finally, now that CF has changed the names, everyone is complaining again!!!

Come ON! Us adrenaline junkies are supposed to be a happy bunch, right? All we can do is complain about names, when the only valid complaints here really are: Admission to the park and the animals.

Everyone just needs to grow up!

Just my opinion.

The whole steel venom is a disgrace to Valleyfair. It was so nice to have a coaster that was a original (at least in name) to us.
WHO CARES? Give it a friggin't rest. It is a name. You don't hear us criticizing you on your screen name do you?

If the coasters now run efficiently and with great customer service to back them up; I could care less it they called the Rollercoasters A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, ............

You want to complain about a name? Complain about Geauga Dog...and blame the Funtime people for that. Was there a Darrien Dog and a Wyandotte Dog too?

I don't mind people disliking the names -- everyone is entitled to their opinion -- but some people seem genuinely angry about them. That's a little scary. As far as recycling names goes, it doesn't really bother me. They had to come up with a bunch of new names in a short amount of time, so using existing ones only makes sense.

As for the names themselves, I think most of them are just fine. I guess I'm one of the few that thinks Head Spin isn't bad at all. Hurricane Hannah's and Beaver Land Mine Train, on the other hand, are pretty awful.

In the end, the names won't matter much. It's the improvements in ride operations and staff that I'm most interested in. It would be great two see two trains running on Villain, Big Dipper, and X-Flight. Can't wait 'til opening day!
