Geauga Lake site launched following acquisition by Cedar Fair

Cedar Fair has launched GeaugaLake.com. The company announced March 10 that it would acquire the park, formerly known as Six Flags Ohio and Six Flags Worlds of Adventure, from Six Flags.

Visit GeaugaLake.com.

Cedar Fair has repeated names before. Power Tower at Cedar Point and Power at Valleyfair. Also White Water Landing at Cedar Point and White Water Landing at Dorney Park. I don't see Cedar Fair starting to put in clones of coasters into their parks, not like SF is known to do.
The real news is, what will coasterdude318 have to say about it ... I have $10 riding on this ...
And you don't think CF would clone more often if they had 20+ parks in North America? It's not like CF didn't buy a pair of the same coasters this year anyways...

Can you blame them for using these names??? We all know that they're other rides throughout the Cedar Fair chain, but the average visitor doesn't. More importantly, they're not names also used at CP. Given the short time period, why not use what you already have in your arsenal??

This whole cloning thing is really an absurd topic. Anyone in the business world will tell you that if you went to an ad agency (or marketing company) and asked them to create a name, logo, color pallette, ad campaign for a unique named ride and then went to the company a couple of years and asked them to do it again...it is going to be cheaper the second time around.

I mean really, other than a small percentage of nerdy enthusiasts, who the heck cares what the ride is called?

Umm...The web-blocker on my office computer won't let me access the website due to gross/sexual text/graphics. And I thought it was a family park...LOL

What could possibly be on the website that they would be blocking?!?!

Sean

I actually like the names, especially Head Spin (original name for a bad coaster). Dominator is a little "eh", but I can live with it. Doesn't really matter though, all of the rides will still be the same...
Sean, it might be blocked because right after Geauga Lake was bought by Six Flags someone bought the domain and turned it into a porn website:

Regarding the new names, this is what I have to say to the critics: COME ON!

Did anyone really expect Cedar Fair to come up with really catchy names in such a short period of time? They purchased Geauga Lake less than a month ago and will open it in just the same period of time soon. I'm not surprised they gave these rides cloned names because what else are they going to do in less than a month?

Just my few cents.

Geaugalake.com was bought by a porn developer because Six Flags got it back a few years ago.

I am glad to see the Oktoberfest and fright events remaining, as well as attractions on the former animal side remaining open and the new starlight admission prices.*** This post was edited by bigkirby 4/8/2004 4:55:39 PM ***

Hurricane Hannah's Water Park, in my mind, could have been named better. How in the world can you associate the tropical theming already present with "Hannah". Why not call it Hurricane Beach or Hurricane Lagoon...somthing that belends nicely with the theming (unless they plan on tearing out all the palm trees, and filling in sandy patches with mulch or asphalt).

How about the rename of the kiddie coaster! Beaver Land Mine Ride? Talk about avoiding the name cloning issue on that one!

Hmmmm, maybe THAT is why freakylick Sean couldn't access the site...;)
They could have brought back Hercules as the World's Longest Floorless . To me I just think Roller Coasters should have original names Sure there are a million Cyclones, Wildcats, and Big/Giant Dippers but they are timeless coaster names.

I think they should have mixed up the names a bit:

Thunder Force, Steel Hawk, Dominatrix, at least they would have been original. Oh Well what's done is done, no use in complaing anymore.

So they pulled a third grade class and got them to pick these names? Oh my - those names suck so bad. I'm really mad with the selection.

I'm so mad too! I'm only going to go to the park 9 times this year instead of 10!

Geez. It's coaster season. Go ride something and move on to bigger fish.*** This post was edited by ApolloAndy 4/8/2004 5:35:48 PM ***

I'm surprised that Shipwreck Falls, X Flight, and Grizzly Run still have same names. Those are Six Flags names and I definitely thought they would be changed.
Funny, I thought a rose by any other name would still smell as sweet? A name is for merchandising. The ride experience should stand on its own.
Note that the rides on the wildlife side will still be opened (or at least some of them).

Actually, coasterpunk, I really like that idea for a coaster named Dominatrix. Sounds so much cooler than Dominator to me. There aren't enough female gendered ride names anyway.

I'm wondering if a large part of the name-cloning is to expediate the merchandising for the gift shops since the takeover was so close to opening day. It'd probably be quite expensive to try to name something, come up with logos and designs, and then get shirts and stuff made so quickly.

This way, they can just "borrow" surplus stock from other locations until more is ordered.

P.S. Yay for more Pepsi.

P.P.S. I sure hope I still get in free.
