Geauga Lake site launched following acquisition by Cedar Fair

Cedar Fair has launched GeaugaLake.com. The company announced March 10 that it would acquire the park, formerly known as Six Flags Ohio and Six Flags Worlds of Adventure, from Six Flags.

Visit GeaugaLake.com.

Dominatrix would be a better choice for Raging Wolf Bobs as that is the ride that shows a good time by beating you up.

On another note, did anyone notice that both the boomerang and SLC are both described as "unique" on that web site? That's the only load of crap that I saw on the site. I don't really care about the names, because the rides are not effected by the name.

Not so sure about the "Dominator" for their B & M floorless. Probably could've come with a better name. But hey, yay for Pepsi!! I won't hear park employees complaining about the coke machines breaking down all the time.

Repeat after me, people:

ride names and paint colors have NO EFFECT on the ride experience. If you liked Batman Knight Flight you're still going to enjoy Dominator.

Any thoughts on whether or not they will have a park map ready by May 1? If they do, I wonder if this will reveal any possible further plans for the season.

Cedar Fair Takes over the Park Effective Tomorrow April 9th, 2004.

Thought this was interesting:

"RIDES
Ride lines are closed early so that the ride is closed at the posted park closing time. ....." (from the Policies page)

I would have certainly thought that all ride lines would be kept open like Cedar Point. Then again this is a totally different park, and not everything needs to be exactly like Cedar Point.

Anybody else notice that the Enterprise is missing?
I'd imagine that the queue closing policy reflects the fact that employees don't live on-campus, and therefore would prefer not to work uber-overtime just so the lines would stay open until closing.

Am I the only one here that thinks that the names they chose arent all that bad? Dominator is actually a pretty cool name. It's unique. It's fitting for the signature ride of the park IMHO.

Mamoosh, I dont think anyone really belives that. But I know I am gonna feel pretty dumb saying, "hey, lets go ride dominator."

If it really bothers you that much, just say, "Let's go ride the floorless."
Oops...on the Transition page it lists Serial Thriller as having seven inversions!
I don't think it really bothers anybody that much Moosh, it's just something to talk about. My glass is kind of half empty if you get what I'm saying, and I have to agree that the connotation behind those names just bring other very different rides to mind. I definately think there are better names for the rides even if they aren't new to Cedar Fair.

If your glass is half full, so be it, don't freak out for our admittedly lame complaints. ;)*** This post was edited by SFGAMDie HARD 4/8/2004 10:34:47 PM ***

Is it my imagination, or have some of the rides been moved...

o Bounty - Chance Sea Dragon, moved to North side
o Yo-Yo - Chance Yo Yo, moved to North side

...and some are not on the list...

o Silver Bullet - Huss Enterprise
o Thriller Bees - Huss Bee Bee
o Starfish - Chance Wipeout

I like the new website (much easier to access then the old sixflags one). I also think they will do something with the wildlife side due to the fact they are bringing back the ski show. The park should be very much improved with the new management. I just hope they clean the place real well before opening day.
The issue about some ride lines closing early might reflect the fact that Grizzly Run has always closed early because it has no light through out its course and the cameras we use to moniter the boats become blacked out and we can no longer see the boats making it a little unsafe. Will CF fix this and we can keep it open till close? Maybe, hopefully. Just a safety measure to have it in policies as a just in case probably.

I never said anything about not enjoying Dominator. It will still be my favorite floorless.
I find it funny how people complain that Six Flags is unoriginal about naming coasters Batman Knight Flight, or Batman The Dark Knight, but when its changed they say they liked the original name. Get over it people....its just a name.
Kick The Sky, I also think the names are okay.

They just sound a little funny because we already associate the names with other attractions. Non-enthusiasts will not have this problem.

If you create and trademark a ride name, why not save some time and money and use it more than once? It's already available to use.

Well,

First off, they did a good job with the site, very easy to navigate, and informative. As far as ride names go, they haven't grown on me yet, but give them time.

Anyway, I noted when I looked at the season pass information for Six Flags passholders --
* If you want to exchange your Six Flags pass to a Gauga Lake pass, you are to go to the North admission gate (Rides Side)
* If you want to return your pass for a refund, you are to go to the South admission gate. (Life Side)

Makes me wonder, does this mean that Six Flags will actually be refunding the passes, and CF is letting them use the Lifeside guest services building as an office for this reason, OR:

(Dave puts on cynical cap)

Could it be that Cedar Fair is making the refund procedure as awkward as possible to minimize utilization. Imagine, you and your family show up to the park.

You: Yes, we are here to turn in our Six Flags passes for a refund.
GR: I'm sorry sir, we can't do that here, but if you kindly return to your car, pull out of the parking lot (be sure to get a parking renentry pass), drive down to the South parking lot, park again, go get your refund, then get back in your car, come back to the North lot, wait through the parking toll line again (even to use your re-entry park) if you wish to visit us today.

(Family gets in car, drives to WildLife side, pulls in, parks, walks up to the nearly abandones GR office)

You: Yes, I'd like to return our season passes for a refund.
GR: Sure thing sir, I just need to see your cash register receipt?
You: I didn't bring it, We had these passes processed last fall, we have the passes right here/
GR: Sorry, that's not good enough, did you bring your credit card statement, perhaps a cancelled check?
You: No, I don't have any of that stuff anymore.
GR: Well I'm afraid all we can offer you is an exchange to a Geauga Lake pass.
YOu: Okay, I guess, here are our passes
GR: I'm sorry, we don't do that here, you have to go back to your car, drive up the road, pull into our main parking lot, and talk to the folks in the Rides side GR building.

Maybe overdone, but seriously I could not provide a proof of purchase document for my PKI pass, though I have the plastic ID card.

Though in all seriousness, it hasn't been posted here, but there is a drop dead date if you wish to exercise the refund option. You must get your refund by May 31. (Mail, phone, or at the park) The wording is quite specific, the refund must take place by May 31. Not applied for, not postmarked, but completed. And the web and phone options are just to obtain the form to mail in.
