Former aquarium being razed, giant footers poured on Cedar Point beach

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

No official announcement has been made for Cedar Point's 2002 attraction, but construction has begun. The back portion of the former aquarium building has been razed while giant footers have been poured on the beach behind Giant Wheel. A few photos have been posted on Guide to The Point.

ok like a month ago I posted a topic about seeing diff. equ. on the beach (there was like a bulldoser and something else) and it got deleted. I thought something was gonna happen over there.

What ever happen to the aquarium attraction? Why did it close?
Has anyone ruled out the possibility of the ride actually being a clone of Superman: The Escape at Magic Mountain?  I think this is very likely. If they built it to reach 500 feet, they could claim it as the worlds tallest and maybe even fastest roller coaster.

I don't think that the ride will be a clone, Cedar Point is too good of a park for a clone.
Why would the park build one impulse with the huge crowds that Cedar Point has? If it were an impulse, then it will either be a racing one or it will be different from other impulses.

Quote from Guide to the Point -

"Guide to The Point has learned that the new attraction will be located on the site of Oceana and the former aquarium, as we've been saying now for years. It will be a taller and faster version of an existing ride type. It will also have greater capacity."

Already existing ride, greater capacity. I think it's an impulse. But why would CP add an impulse then they are known for world breaking rides? I heard people are saying it's not a Trust Air, but I still think it is!

If I remember correctly, didnt Dick Kinsel ride Bandit and thats what led to Magnum...and whats so unique about Millenium Force? (please don't get me wrong, I am sure its a great ride)...but as far as originality its just a taller and faster hypercoaster!(like others have argued is the CP trademark)  Elevator lift, been there done that.  Over banked turns, been there done that too.  Magnetic Brakes, wasnt the first.

And since when were all the Six Flags parks the same?  Do all the six flags park have S:TE?  Nitro?  X? S:ROS?

And why did this thread become a Six Flags vs. CF flamewar anyways?

I think that the new coaster will be just like S:TE only bigger and faster. And I will not comment on which I think is Better SF or CF because I love any roller coaster and isn't that what amusement parks are for.

Ok....what exactly is wrong with having clones??  99% of the population is not going to care if a ride is cloned or even know... it DOES NOT MATTER!!  Yes, as enthusiasts we would like to see different parks with all different coasters... but that is not going to happen.  Think of it economicly too, building a clone is going to be cheaper than coming up with a new design.  Plus, if you have a design (batman) that you know is a success, why not clone it??  Thats just doing smart buisness.... well except for all the Deja Vu clones ; )  And i will say this again, for the amount of parks SF has, it does not have that many more clones proportionally than CF parks.
Trying to stick to the topic.... does anyone else think that the location is going to be great for this ride, just looking at the pictures of the beach and lake, i think just the visuals alone for this ride should make it great. *** This post was edited by d7droog52 on 10/21/2001. ***
Amazing how some arguments will never die, sigh, anyway, this line of thinking might be a little off base, but i will put it out there anyway..... whatever cp is building must be something really big, considering that they are starting work now on it.  I shouldn't say really big, but rather bigger than a simple impulse (maybe 2 or 3??)......i just think that if something was being put in the size of V2 that they would not have started this early.  How big is the area they have cleared out anyway?  Does anyone actually know?  I am probably wrong about all of this, but i just thought i would see what everyone else thought. *** This post was edited by d7droog52 on 10/21/2001. ***
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that a piece of square concrete sitting in the sand really isn't very exciting. How it became the park chain vs. park chain arguement just amazes me.

I just deleted several dozen posts that had absolutely nothing to do with the news item. Take your stupid flame wars to some other site, because I'm really not interested in reading them.

hmmm...I'm guessing the company is Vekoma then.  Kinzel was apparently looking at the LIM Vekoma at Disney on the Rockin' Roller Coaster.

Regardless of who thinks they're "in the know," they are wrong.

It should be glaringly obvious what this is right now. The simplest answer is the correct one.

Anyone have any ideas on how deep the concrete is??  By the look of the sand piles, they are NOT that deep.  Maybe about 5-8 feet or so??  Didn't someone say that the footers for some of the supports and transfer track on MF were 10-15 feet deep.  Is that true?  This may help in our guessing game to how large the item placed on the footers will actually be.
...the simplest answer:

a)  A boardwalk onto the beach.

b)  An impulse coaster like S:UE.

c)  Concrete in the sand next to an indoor bobsled coaster.

I can't decide if we should continue guessing, wasting precious bandwidth or show patience by waiting until the announcement.....hmmm....start getting the payper website generated Jeff.....no one is actually going to stop guessing.

It's very clear to me. My only question is, how tall?

How about an Inverted MR. FREEZE/CHILLER coaster. That would be pretty cool.

Woody: The majority of the concrete at the base of these holes is probably not more than a foot. However... the two big holes at the Disaster Transport end (which I have yet to upload a photo for) are much larger in size and more precise in dimensions. If you're following that and thinking about where the support needs to be on the ride that makes the most sense, you know what I'm getting at.

Sheesh Jeff! You've pretty much told everybody what it is! ;)
Jeff,

Are these 2 huge holes run paralell to or perpendicular to Disaster Transport?
