Former aquarium being razed, giant footers poured on Cedar Point beach

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

No official announcement has been made for Cedar Point's 2002 attraction, but construction has begun. The back portion of the former aquarium building has been razed while giant footers have been poured on the beach behind Giant Wheel. A few photos have been posted on Guide to The Point.

Putting a Shuttle coaster like S:UE only with its own Cedar Point Twist would be, in my opinion, a great move for the park. A TA2K would be cool, but for a CF park with less people, like MA, VF, or WoF.

Mamba; The inspiration for SD2K. It doesnt get much better than that. Come to the Midwest;and ride the most underrated coaster in the U.S.
It is definitely Impulses look at the way the footers are set up. Side by side. If you see four footer lined up, then your not seeing things. ;)

Top 5
1.) Beast 2.) Phantom's Revenge 2.) SROS (SFNE) 4.) SROS (SFDL) 5.) MF

I think that its not an Impulse Twister only because Cedar Point is "ORIGINAL"  They dont just go copying off of six flags and other cedar fair parks.  Cedar Point, has a past of being Original with all their rides except for ofcourse (Wildcat).  Six Flags is Good in the way that they Copy their roller coasters and roller coaster names but, Cedar point is not like that.
It will be an impulse but not by INTAMIN

Well the TA2K is coming to SFMM sorry...Stan Checketts said that he pictured the worlds tallest and fastest TA2K at SFMM and that he would like to work on one there...plus with the success of Thrill Shot...and the fences behind Deja Vu being moved back can only mean one thing...
Corey. Anything is possible and I am sure CP is up for a change. They know that some of these non-full circuit coasters are popular so they might hop on and construct one.

"The Peoples Elbow" or "The Spinaroonie?. Cant decide which is the most electrifying move in sports entertainment!!! LOL
Isn't it obvious? It's an Intamin Reverse Freefall Shuttle coaster, Superman: The Escape style! Remember the thing about "CP will have to acknowledge another one like it as a coaster"? We already know all about the S: TE style. Of course, this one will probably wind up being the fastest roller coaster in the world.

Oh, those holes look terrible! Leave the beach alone!
It looks like if it is Impulse(s) there is no pheasible way to race them. It would be tough just to have 2 operatating at the same time! Reasons why S:TE rarley has 2 tracks running. There is no pheasible way to race to LIM/LSM coasters. The power is too great. I learned an interesting fact that if Batman and Robin: The chiller, were both launched at the same time, all of SFGaV would black out. Theres waaaay to many volts! Its too bad becuase this sounds like a great idea to have 2 impulses racing!

SFMM line cutters are the braviest in the world.

There's a nuclear power plant within a half hour of Cedar Point.  Power may not necessarily be a problem...
Dont rule out an impulse.  I have heard that the ride is likely to be a side by side impulse, allowing more riders of course, with an incredibly high height and twisting.

My source may be wrong, so don't crucify me.  Im just adding to the fun and anticipation of the site by telling what I heard.

But Tood, I've seen pictures where both side of Chiller were running simultaneously. I think your conclusion is incorrect.

Oh and Corey, remember you said that. *IF* CP does end up getting one, you will be reminded of that stement anyway :)

Bit0mike, I don't think that's a nuclear power plant.
My guess

I, being in the know, can tell you a few things w/o giving it away..

1. it will NOT be a TA2K

2. Intamin is not the company

3. These footers do not have to be for the ride itself...

4. There will be more footers added to the beach...so get over it.

5. Buildings are being razed....so what does that tell you about the direction of the coaster?

6. or coasters...

7. Power and space will not be a problem...

8. "almost every coaster has a 3 train operation.." That may be true..but how about a 2 track operation????

Goliath, here are two construction images from Superman. For what its worth...

Im not sure what it will be at this time, But im very interested.
I think it will be just like the exterminator at kennywood.  Also if you have ever seen sue or V2 you have probally noticed how the track moves.  I was wondering if CP cpould build these because of the high winds they would have to have more supports.
There's definitely a nuclear power plant near Cedar Point...  the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station on OH 2 beween Sandusky and Toledo.  What I don't know is if Cedar Point is connected to it.
