Flying Turns Update

I thought that what I saw on the news tonight had bodies on it, but it was really a quick shot, I couldn't get a good look at it.

First let me say, I love Knoebels, heck I even got married there. And while I think Flying Turns will be worth the wait, hasn't this just been a 3 year distraction?

It was hyped in 2006, then then again during 2007, now summer 2008.

I feel selfish saying this, and I'm not upset that FT is taking so long, its understandable, but does anybody else feel distracted by this? What else have they done in the past 3 years? Looper?

I know finacially they can only do so much, but I would like to see the park continue to grow.

I think when they lost Whirlwind, while it was short, they never replaced it. I would love a steel coaster there, even if it wasn't the tallest or fastest. *** Edited 4/24/2008 10:43:44 PM UTC by Gary B*** *** Edited 4/24/2008 10:45:16 PM UTC by Gary B***

I don't think they need to replace Whirlwind, IMO. If anything, maybe a Maurer Sohne spinner (which I was actually hoping for at PPP 2005) or something like that, but I wouldn't say they need to add another coaster with inversions.

Hell, I hope they fulfill my dream and build a Boulder Dash-esque ride on the side of the mountain before anything else.

According to their website they added a Wipeout for 08 so they are adding rides still.

http://www.knoebels.com/whats-new.asp

I had no idea they were adding a Wipeout. Where did it come from?
And more importantly where will it be located? I checked the map on the website and it doesn't seem to answer the location question.

Watch the tram car please....
Cedar Fair had a Wipeout (Starfish) from Geauga Lake for sale this winter. It looks nothing like the one featured on the Knoebels web site, but then again it might not have to.

As a frequent visitor of the used rides websites....Chance Wipeouts are *almost always* for sale. Not saying it isn't GL's, but it could have come from literally anywhere....
Are you looking to buy used rides? The closest I ever got was almost picking up a bumper car from the Erieview auction.

Dang if I know what I would have done with it.

It appears as though the Starfish from Geauga Lake is still for sale.

It will probably be part of the auction in June along with the rest of the rides that havn't been sold/relocated yet.

I heard the carousel was being relocated, but I don't know if that's true or where it would be going.

I didn't see anything mentioned on the rates page either about any new rides other than FT. I noticed the price on Phoenix and Twister is the same as last year. But the price on the Flyers was raised to $1.20 (damn oil companies). I suppose that one's worth the sacrifice.

LOL, not really, but I'm always interested in what's out there and which parks I know that I think could use them. It's kinda my own playtime akin to the college kids around here who are completely addicted to WoW.

The one ride I really WANTED to buy...an Anton Wildcat for 40K. The electricals needed work, but I've got an enthusiast friend who probably coulda been convinced to help out. Luckily the GF brought me back to reality. ;)

The new "feature" I believe is a projected witch face. I am not 100% sure but a friend who is familiar with the ride said it was new.

It did look pretty nice though, compared to everything else.

On Suday we got down for the day. All I can say is unless they have a fully built train hiding somewhere, I would not look for an opening on Flying Turns until July 4th... and that is being optomistic.

On a postive note, Twister did have a lot of trackword done. Just about every drop after the main lift has been completely rebuilt. It may have just been the two of us, but it seems that with all the new wood Twister is running faster and more furious than before. Hard to remember what it was like close to ten years ago though. We have some pics on our flickr page www.flickr.com/photos/coastercub84

The 08 map is up and shows Wipeout near Fandango.... not sure how many people know that but just thought I'd post it anyway since it hasn't been directly answered on here.

Good to know. It'll be interesting to see if it ends up being the Starfish from Geauga Lake. Even though it's still listed for sale, it's possible the listing may not have been updated/deleted.

The version Knoebels got is a portable model. It has a backsplash and everything. That means the platform and turret is on an incline while the park model is level. The ride was not yet open when I visited over memorial day weekend. I wonder if it was the model from Marnier's ?

Now back on the subject of Flying Turns.. I wonder how things are progressing?

We were down on Monday of the week past, and there was no activity around the construction site. There was a tour for the coaster club from England, but not sure if they were given any info other than it will be running as soon as possible.

As for the Wipeout, there are signs at the handstamp booths that it is now open, but the ride is down more than it runs. A friend has one on his midway, and all last season it did not run properly. When it came to getting the issue fixed he had nothing but frustration with Chance-Morgan as far as getting a clear answer what is wrong. They advised that due to the age of the ride it may be best for him to trade up to a new one. Seeing as Knoebels is a used carnival ride I wish them the best, but I don't think Wipeout will be a permanent attraction in the park.

Wipeout was running on Wednesday. I was there for bargain night. It is a fun ride, but once was enough for me (I'm not as young as I used to be) :)

There was no activity around the Turns. The bodies were off of the chassis and I only saw one car chassis on the brake run.

I'll most likely go for bargain night again on Wed. I'll check the progress on the Turns then.

Gotta love bargain nights. Well worth the price to marathon the Flyers and Bumper Cars :)
