Flying Turns Update

Not gloating. Just honestly surprised. As a kid growing up in NEPA people would pick on you if you said you liked going to Knoebels, or it meant you were poor and couldn't afford trips to Great Adventure or Busch Gardens. I love that my "home park" has become so well loved, and will continue to be there for generations to come.

Sorry, bad choice of verb. ;)

Yah, when I was a kid, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk played second fiddle to Great America for us kids. Boy were we wrong! ;)

But to be honest, looking back, I think I had a lot more fun at SCBB than MGA.

Off topic, is this the largest topic in Cbuzz history, 1000 replies, my account is a few months younger than this topic, its funny to see how people were expecting it to open in '06 and were still waiting.

^IIRC, "Whatever happened to Coasterbuzz" ran up toward (maybe over?) 100 pages...

But that's not nearly as exciting as a WOODEN BOBSLED run.... :)

^Who was it that started that thread back in 03'?:) I seriously hope Knoebels gets this thing open this year. I wouldn't say that they need it at all to survive, but there are some of us who are getting restless waiting for it to open.

Have I mentioned before the ride tickets without an expiration date from 06' that I still have?

When this thing does open, you'll see a WHOLE wave of use converging in it!

I drive in & out of Boston, so I ride coasters to relax!

I don't think this is the longest thread ever, but it's up there. Then again, I have no way of backing up that claim.

I suppose this one will keep going and going until the ride opens. And that's fine, since it's fun to go back to previous pages and see how we've all been following the construction of the ride. It's like a living construction diary, except not related to anyone with an intimate knowledge of the ride aside from Mr. Fetterman, wherever he is right now.

^...don't forget the occasional copy/pasted responses from Coastin' Steve...

gator, still has his card for a "Free ride on the Flying Turns" - and Knoebels' is NEVER getting that back! :)

The POV looks like a water slide. Is it going to move faster than that when its actually moving? Looks like it could get sketchy at points.

Move faster? It looks like a good speed to me. Any faster and you wouldn't have much of an experience left -- it's already well under 30 seconds from the second lift to the first brakes!

Also, anyone who's not familiar with the history of the original Flying Turns concept needs to know that it's wasn't meant to simulate a bobsled, it was meant to simulate early-20th-century stunt flying. (Minus vertical loops, of course.) That's why they were and are laid out in a twisted design, rather than like a terrain coaster.

I think the one at euclid beach looks like it would be allot better than the one there building now. I think all the lift hills break the ride up too much, but I'll have to waite and see.
Anyone know if Flying Turns is going to be ready for opening weekend next weekend?

No.
To elaborate on that... Knoebels hasn't announced it, so I doubt it'll be ready. (It has a price listed, but it had a price listed last year too.)

I saw the train today. It was missing "bodies", and some cars still had sand bags for testing. Perhaps I'll post a photo ot two later. If I were a betting man, it will not run with passengers this Saturday. Maybe just for show. Knoebels will end up giving us a great ride experience. Let's all be patient.
WNEP-TV showed the train for a few seconds tonight. There seemed to be a lot of work going on around it involving grinding off bolts etc. They said that they hoped to have it open sometime this summer, which we all knew anyway.

They also said that there is a new feature in the Haunted House.

First let me say, I love Knoebels, heck I even got married there. And while I think Flying Turns will be worth the wait, hasn't this just been a 3 year distraction?

It was hyped in 2006, then then again during 2007, now summer 2008.

I feel selfish saying this, and I'm not upset that FT is taking so long, its understandable, but does anybody else feel distracted by this? What else have they done in the past 3 years? Looper?

I know finacially they can only do so much, but I would like to see the park continue to grow.

I think when they lost Whirlwind, while it was short, they never replaced it. I would love a steel coaster there, even if it wasn't the tallest or fastest. *** Edited 4/24/2008 10:43:44 PM UTC by Gary B*** *** Edited 4/24/2008 10:45:16 PM UTC by Gary B***

I looked on WNEP's website about knoebels and found somethings but nothing about the flying turns or new feature in the hunted house... do you know any more info or where we might be able to find out more???
