Cool pics, I like your site, was just checking out the "remembering Williams Grove" section.

Just checking out the cams now, that lift structure sure went up fast, as well as part of the tracking that must have gone up either over night or just this morning!! Looks like a reg. wooden coaster lift too (which it is for the most part) Its all happening so fast recently, I can't wait to see the helix (is that suppose to be the tunnel part?). :) *** Edited 9/28/2006 7:39:11 PM UTC by P18***

wait there is going to be a tunnel part?

read back on some of Fetterman's posts, specifically the one on page 2 whic gives a full detailed description of the ride. Heres the part about the tunnel:

"The tunnel-slash-540 degree helix comes between the first and second lift. It is not intended to provide the rush of a rocket coaster’s acceleration. It is intended to be a red herring for first-time riders who have heard about the unique aspects of the ride, but have not actually experienced them. Also, tunnels are generally fun!" *** Edited 9/28/2006 8:00:10 PM UTC by P18***

Yes, basically you go up a 16 foot lift out of the station and drop into a 540 degree helix which is in a tunnel! Big fun!

I was thinking how I couldn't wait to see what Knoebels plans on doing with it for "next year's PPP," which led me to another question-- what kind of lighting will the Turns have, and how will that be different from past FTs? Mr. Fetterman, if you please?

Just thinking of riding this in total darkness... are you kidding me?

The older ones had like, streetlamp-like lights over the troughs right? It would probly have chaser lights and some flood lighting as well, not sure about those lamps and all.

Total darkness does sound like alot of fun tho :)

Lighting for the ride? Nothing has been finalized yet, but given that Jim Martini will be in charge of the process of selection and installation (Mr. PPP Emm-Cee himself), and he has been brilliantly lighting coasters for over two decades now, I expect the lighting will be pleasing.

As for the helix/tunnel - we have morphed the track within from a true side-friction track, to more of the troughed style which appears, naturally, in spades later in the ride. The bobsled style of car, with its six casters and six guide wheels, does not track gracefully through a fully-guided tight turn such as we initially proposed. (I'm puzzled how effective the original Bartlett turn could have been, slow speed or not, in the Riverview and Coney Island versions of this type of ride).

What this means is that the helix/tunnel will not be so much of a "red herring", as I suggested earlier, and more of an "enclosed appetizer" for the fuller course meal to be served after the longer lift.

So the Riverview and Coney Island rides had a side-friction turn? Is that what you are referring to as the "Bartlett turn"? Or perhaps I am misinterpreting?

John, thanks for the response. The more I see and read about this the "curiouser and curiouser" I get. Now I'm wondering about the transitions between the different types of track. Guess I'll need to see it in person as it gets built. :)
**sits back and waits for new bunches of Flying Turns pics and TR's to float in from the weekend** ;)
They're pretty far down the second (larger) lift hill, and it lines up almost directly with the bridge crossing over to/from Twister.

They were also letting people get really close to the trough itself, (even had a little entrance and exit queue constructed) you could walk right up to the sharp turn coming out of the figure 12. They had a few aerial photos on display and workmen on hand answering questions.

The kiosk even had a monitor setup showing some footage of old FT's running interspersed with shots of construction and a sort of POV up the lift hill and through the trough-- support posts and all. :)

It just looks better and better every time I see it.

Thanks for the update Bear. I just recently saw a photo TR on another site and it looks awesome. An Aerial shot is also up on the official Knoebels site ( http://knoebels.com/update.htm)Id love to see that video though, maybe it'll eventually end up on YOUTUBE haha. *** Edited 10/9/2006 2:50:22 AM UTC by P18***
