Extreme News on V2 at SFMW!!!

I have an off-the-wall suggestion... turn the seats on the train so that they face outwards and away from the track.  Kind of like the old coasters of Coney Island.

That would only require a new train, I really doubt they'd be changing the one-year-old track layout.

***Why can't all parks have a Millennium Force?***

I can accept this because SFMW did not announce any new roller coasters or flat rides for the 2002 season, so improving a 2001 coaster is just fine for me! My take on the whole new angle on V2 is that SFMW could be adding some track to make it a full circuit coaster, running the trains backwards, installing one of a kind trains like X at SFMM or just be replacing the vertical spike with the spiral spike. There's nothing else that you could do to that ride besides that.
I agree with Draeger...

If SFMW does anything other than turn the back spik LIM on, the world is coming to an end. :)

I know a lot about roller coasters. Have any questions just E-Mail me at agomez@afes.com

I suspect they'll fix the straight spike holding brakes, and maybe put on "Face Off" style back to back seats. I kinda wondered why they didn't offer these seats in the first place, as I think it would make the ride more unique, and "re-rideable".

[EDIT] - or you know what ? How about flying-style trains ? That would def. ad a "new angle" !!!

Hey, I was about to say that Joe, I think the flying style trains would be cool.

My vote goes for the brake.  From what I understand the holding brake NEVER worked...is that true?  It wasn't working late in the summer.

Adding or changing the seat configuration would require a lot of work in the station as well.  Plus you can already put your feet on the supports of the seats in front of you, so there's just no room for another row of seats facing the other way.

And changing the rear spike to twisting?  That would cost as much as a new flat probably.

However after checking out the park's website the phrase "a new twist" certainly raises a flag.  Let's face it...Six Flags PR has not always been subtle.  SFOG's website alludes to a "super" announcement.  I think it would be absolutely hilarious if both V2s and SUE got a new rear spike.  None of my usual sources know anything about this.  I guess we'll know for sure soon enough.

"World's first", "re-deisgn" and "new angle" don't sound like the holding break to me, even with Six Flags crazy marketing. It's got to be something else. I'm looking into it.

DWeaver - we expect some hard facts SOON!!
That would be hard to do to make both of V2's and SUE a double twisting because of the double twisting is Cedar Fair's catch, seemings how they were gonna make WT like SUE but had to make it double twisting because of single twist and holding brake is Six Flag's copyright.

Also, "And look out! Vertical Velocity, the tallest, fastest coaster in Northern California, will re-open with a world's-first redesign that puts a whole new angle on thrills!" is on the SFMW website, it can't be a double twisting, it says "worlds first"

If it truly is 'world's first', then I doubt they're talking about making a twist on the back or putting a holding break on like most of you are saying.

Krazy and Rctycoon2K - if they add a twisted spike to V2 and it opens BEFORE Wicked Twister it would be a "worlds first."  The holding brake [which SF does *not* hold a copyright on] is already on V2 but it has not been working.  You gotta remember...this info is coming from the park's PR department.  Hyperbole is their mainstay!

whole new angle *suggests* Invertigo-style face-to-face seating IMO.  It would be a "world's first" too...the twisting rear spike WOULD be the world's first, since SFMW opens before CP for the season, but that's too much even for SF marketing.  The brake puts no "new angle" to the ride.   Turning the train backward would also be a great idea...making "new" rides out of clones is ALWAYS cool IMO...

Rollergator:  to repeat myself from an earlier post, I honestly don't think there's enough room to put back-to-back seats as you can already touch the support of the seats in front of you.  Plus it would require a redesign of the station, too.

One thing is for sure, tho:  they got us talking about it ;-)

so Mamoosh, you're sticking with the rear holding brake, or are you thinking of facing the train backwards?  Any change is good for me (not that I didn't like the original S:UE)...

I don't think they would have back-to-back trains becuase it would hurt to accelerate backwards.

I highly, highly doubt that they'd add a spiral back spike. Most likely they'll run the trains backwards. It's the cheapest, and they'd be trying to make up for the lost LIM. Even if it worked, it shouldn't be used on a backward train... the hanging feeling just wouldn't be there. New trains is next likely, maybe with invertigo style seating. So... In order of most probable: 1) Backwards Train 2) New Trains w/ New Seating Arrangements 3) Wicked Twister Style Twisting Back Spike.

I agree with Ben D. To launch facing backwards would not be to kind to the neck and head, since there is no support. Also, if they do a wicked twister stlye spike and open it before cedar point does, then they can call it the world's first.
