I was just going to post the same thing. Anyone have a clue what this could be? I know the back spike break stopped working mid-season and hasn't worked since. Could they be scrapping it altogether for a double spiral? First person to guess gets a gold star!  ;)

Nice:) When I read the first post I thought they'd simply have the the LIM on the back spike fixed. The said it will re-open with a world's-first redesign that puts a whole new angle on thrills, and I was thinking about this a few days ago. Would it be possible to tilt the front tower back, like this?  |___\  or /___| , or would the g's be too intense?

Could they possibly be turing the train around and running it backwards?  That could be the "new angle" they're talking about.

That sounds a lot more likely, Matt.  What would prompt SF to alter the ride with new track/etc?  The ride is a year old. If they indeed do change track, it will raise a lot of questions. (For example, did off season inspection reveal a flaw that meant track needed replaced?  Did something like that lead to whatever they are doing...)

With a functioning reverse spike brake, Impulses are one of the few coasters that actually might need upper body restraint!

I think they will replace the vertical spike with a twisted spike and make it like Wicked Twister.  They have been running the ride without the holding brake... so they might as well remove it.

I think that it's either of of two things

a)SF is counting on the GP to have a bad memory and not remember the Back Spike LIM, and will fix it for the '02 season.

b)Wicked Twister Treatment...

My guess would say, either replacing the back spike with a twisted spike, or running the trains backwards. But the more I think about it, I'd sort of miss that brake on the back spike if they did alter it. But that's just me.

Maybe the individual cars will be able to spin around, forward and backwars, or maybe ou',ll just ride with all the cars facing the left or right side of the track...

Thats pretty unusual to change a coaster like that, which has only been operating for a year.

Obviously, this must be a big change if they plan to do this to a practically brand new ride.

It would seem weird to replace that back spike, but to me, thats the most obvious answer.

If the trains are put on backwards, why bother with the lim brakes? I don't think there would be much sensation laying on your back facing the sky. Maybe they still don't have them fixed, and just gave up on them, so they decided to reverse the train.

Cool! The only bad thing is I never got to ride it in it's original form...I didn't make it to SFMW in the 2001 season. But at least it's a change. :)

A new angle? At last check CP was getting a double spiked version. Something tells me they are going to do something off the wall. It is just a thought, I mean   I think maybe the slanted track or something along that line. Maybe even make it an ILM shuttle Looper (be weird I know but kind of cool). By the way I have never claimed to be a genius in this department, it is just a thought.

They're going to make the track a complete circuit. ;)

Just connect the ends!

Never underestimate the power of Six Flags. I could see them simply fixing the rear brake and passing it off as something "new."

WOW I am so excited! My honest oponion is that MW is going to change the straight back spike into a twisting one. That makes the most sense. I wonder if the other V2 will get the same treatment...

I think that we might see back to back seats this season to increase ride capacity.
