Acoustic Viscosity said:I hate to pull a PR, but I seriosuly think this is going to be one of my top 5 coasters out of nearly 90 woodies. It looks wicked awesome to me! :It's totally Superman Ride of Wood, but with a WAY better layout. :)
Honestly, I'm hopeful it turns out that good...the speed at the crests of the hills and the shape of those hills LOOKS promising...
In defense of S:RoW, though, it's hard to compare something built in someone's back yard to an actual Intamin megacoaster...LOL! ;)
also the ET construction journal says this
March 24, 2006: Construction on El Toro continues to march forward aggressively for opening. The trains arrived and will soon go through inspection prior to installation.
looks like those trains are gonna be collecting dust for a while..... lol.....
im going to see if can find pics of the trains anywhere online
Really looks to be a great ride.
Would tend to explain your feelings about wooden coasters...go to PA and/or Indiana, and you'll likely find out you just don't like BAD wooden coasters... ;)

Well like mOOsh mentioned, it does look like it will be a nice addition to the park -- I just don't feel the need to rush out there to ride it. FWIW, I thought the same thing with Kingda Ka.
The problem with this ride is that it is being overshadowed by more interesting to watch being built coasters (Patriot, Voyage, Tatsu, Kentucky Rumbler). Also, it is taking forever for them to make any decent progress on this coaster. With the rate they are going it MIGHT be open by the end of the season. New for 2007?
I don't know maybe it will grow on me, but so far no good. Just MHO though.

Long live the Big Bad Wolf
Valencia, though, has got 1-1/2 of the worst wooden coasters EVER! ;)

Okay, I'll give you the fact that they are taking longer than they should have to get this thing finished, but come on now! 2007?? Nearly all of the large support structures are in place. Pretty soon the only thing left will be to "snap" the track into place. Once the structures are done they can probably finish all of the trackwork in 2 days (as opposed to 2-4 weeks for a normal coaster). That's where the speed comes into play. Supports are supports are supports and they are always going to take long.
Remember, there are almost no supports in the twister finale, so in the next 3 weeks you'll see everything coming together quickly.

Runaway has been repainted, and El Toro is scheduled for a June opening.

It is taking forever to build, and there have been some other amazing coasters to watch being built this year, but I guess I'm just basing my opinions here solely on the potential of the ride itself.
The construction time-line just isn't going to matter to me once I'm plumetting down those airtime filled Intamin drops. *** Edited 3/30/2006 12:29:21 AM UTC by matt.***

Magicmike....based on your picture, and the fact that you "don't even like woodies"...is it safe to assume you live in SoCal?Would tend to explain your feelings about wooden coasters...go to PA and/or Indiana, and you'll likely find out you just don't like BAD wooden coasters...
You assumed correctly. But, until 1997 I lived in Atlanta. Truthfully the only woodies that I've riden are Scream Machine, Georgia Cyclone, American Eagle, Mean Streak, Ghost Rider, Colosus, the ultra crappy Psyclone, and the Woody at Belmont park here in San Diego. So yeah, not very many!
If I lived somewhere near New Jersey then I'd probably be extatic like some are but I have my very own new coaster experience to look forward to in late April. But El Toro looks great and will be an un-believable addition to there nice coaster line up.
First of all, this ride looks awesome. Sorry guys. Of course, Voyage and Rumbler are looking like top tier rides that will be in that *special* class of wood for us enthusiasts. But El Toro looks far from uninteresting. That first drop looks awesome. Ive never been to SFGRadv before, but the next time I go I bet Ill be getting re rides un this sucka.
Second, is that the only place they could have put the ride? Im so confused as to why their only two wooden coasters are right next to eachother. To me thats a poorly planned location for their new wood, although Ive never visited so I guess I really cant comment on the layout of the park.
More than likely shipping and weather conditions are the culprit and not anything else thats going on in SFGADV.
Chuck
IF they were smart, they would have had it ready by Cinco de Mayo and have had the media day then.
Have Fun
