EL TORO DROP COMPLETE!!!

Mamoosh's avatar
Speaking for myself you're reading WAY too much into my opinion of El Toro. Does it look fun? Hell yeah! Do I want to travel all the way from Los Angeles to ride it? No, but I'm sure if I find myself in the area vistiting other parks I'll stop and give it a whirl.

OMG! A big corporate park takes out a crappy steel coaster and does probably the most they could possibly do with that land turning it into a wooden airtime machine and they are still getting crap?

I was thinking the same thing. And I am probably going to step on some toes here... but if this same coaster was being built in Sandusky, Ohio, or in Santa Claus, Indiana (in place of the one that IS being built there) why do I have the feeling that many of the same folks who are p****** and moaning about it would be heralding it as the beginning of a new coaster golden age. But... because it is not at a "favored" park (worse yet, its at a SF park... boo! hiss!) it has to stand up to its fair share of bashing.

I have not been too impressed with Six Flags in the past... but I am also open minded enough to give credit where credit is due and at least wait until I have actually ridden this new coaster to decide if I think it is GREAT! okay, or boring.

"Yes... well... VICTORY IS MINE!"
"Haters, they gonna hate. That's the way it is....." The words of the great singing trio, 3LW. Granted, I am not impressed with the speed at which this thing is being built, but it just goes to show you that Great Adventure will be the scourge of the earth to some no matter what. The thing is 9 feet shorter than its cousin Colossos at Heide Park, yet no one says how short or how boring it looks.

If I found it in my heart to visit SFGAdv this year, chances are that I wouldn't get to ride El Toro anyways, so why even waste my time daydreaming about it?

Really, this is bordering on BWFSFA's constant complaints. We get it!!! You hate Great Adventure, its worthless, Q-bot is a scam, rides are never open, the employees are as bright as a bag of leaves..blah blah blah!

Oy!

Woah...again speaking for myself where did I say the ride was gonna suck or that the reason I wasn't impressed with it had anything to do with the park it's being built at? I said I wouldn't make a special trip to ride it. I'm also not making a special trip just to ride Voyage.
Moosh I think they are resonding more to what Keith2005 said about El Toro.
What coasters are you making a special trip for, Moosh? I'm curious. :)

Also, for those that think it's looks boring, I mean I'm not bashing your opinion or anything, I really don't care, but I'm not sure you realize exactly how fast this thing is going to go over the hills. Usually people ***** about floater airtime on B&Ms and such, well, this is going to be the EXACT opposite. If this coaster doesn't have the most explosive airtime on the hills, I will be incredible *shocked*. We're talking over 30mph OVER THE TOPS of the first two big hills people...that's unbelievably fast.

But again, to each his/her own, and I'm not trying to persuade you to love it, just to understand if you like sick airtime, you're almost sure to love El Toro. :)

OMG I have a new sig!!!
What I had said was already said by others in numerous post all over the forums. I sum it up in one post, and I get flammed?

None, Joe ;)

The last "special trip" I made was an insane trip from Los Angeles to the Dells and back in less than 2 days to surprise some buddies and ride Hades. But it was less about riding Hades and more that I was not about to let them ride it without/before me! LOL!

Legendary---I feel the same way. If the animation is any indication (and judging from the rapid drop in height of the Out portion, and the results of my own NoLimits recreation), this thing is going to SCREAM across those hilltops and every other part of the ride. I hate to pull a PR, but I seriosuly think this is going to be one of my top 5 coasters out of nearly 90 woodies. It looks wicked awesome to me! :It's totally Superman Ride of Wood, but with a WAY better layout. :)

Gotta agree. El Toro was enough to get me to renew the SF passes.

I'm anticipating a ride on this as much as any of the other new woodies going up this year.

From now on, Taun, I will post a happy, wonderful thought on why I LOVE SFGAdv after every time I say something bad about them. It's not like I saying negative things that people already do not know anyway.

I have an opinion. I am not a robot. I'm sorry I come off so strong. I'll try very hard to back down a little. I can't help it that every time I go to SFGAdv I feel ripped off and I have a crappy day because they run their park like they WANT me to have a crappy day.

(Clears throat) They are a very GREAT park with a lot of GREAT rides that I may or may not someday ride, but I don't care if I ride them or not because I will pay $60 just for the CHANCE to ba able to ride them. It is understandable that the park is run the way it is anyway because they have trouble finding staff. It's not their fault. They have pretty trees. They have umm...pretty flowers sometimes. The rides look like they would be fun to ride sometime.

Thats the way it is around here, and it won't change.

Am I the only one that is "under-impressed" by this thing so far? Hopefully the end product turns out better than what I have seen so far. *yawn*

Could I please get a rundown of exactly what this coaster isn't doing for you? What exaclty is under impressing you? Is it just a length thing or what?

I'm not trying to be a jerk here, its just that I look at those first three drops and knowing SFNE's Superman like the back of my hand, and knowing the repuation of the other 2 Intamin plugnplays, and I nearly pee my pants.

Figurativley, of course. ;)

Heres a freakin tip, and this includes some long timers and educated posters.

Ride it before you judge it. My post earlier about the squeeling was just sarcasm as I think many of the (It sucks) post are.

Still, What your gonna have is a steel coaster ride with wooden visuals. So I can't judge how good or bad it will be.

Acustic, How can you call it a top five unless you've ridden? Is it a It looks like it could be type situation?

Chuck, I said I think it is going to be one of MY top five faves...., as in, from the looks of this thing and its potential for sick airtime with the speed it caries, I can't imagine it not being spectacular to me. I'm not saying it IS my number one favorite; just predicting I'm gonna absolutely LOVE this one. I have grown much more excited about it since the announcement; although, I was one of the ones (the few perhaps) that was happy about it from day one. I rarely get THIS excited about a new coaster--maybe only five other ones over the last 15 years including The Voyage (of course). :) *** Edited 3/29/2006 2:05:35 PM UTC by Acoustic Viscosity***

Long live the Big Bad Wolf

I worry about the height. I'm not a fan of height for hieght's sake and I'm more than a little concerned that this is just another coaster designed to "make a statement" more than to deliver a good solid ride--especially with Great Adventure's less-than-stellar reputation with wooden coasters. But it will be interesting to see how the Intamin system works out. That might be the solution for the larger "theme" parks who haven't really figured out how to deal with wooden coasters..

But aside from that. the coaster looks intriquing. I like the way it intertwines with Rolling Thunder (and maybe it will help breathe new life into that ride). I actually find Great Adventure to a pretty attractive park with good atmosphere thanks to some unusual features and buildins still in place from the park's early days (that somehow survived the typical corporate and superhero "blandification" that infects the industry).

No, I'm not going to make a special effort to ride it anytime soon but that is not so much a slam against the coaster or Great Adventure, I'm not really one to design major trips around a single coaster!

I give two thumbs up again for the animation...that is unbleviable what he can do now!

Question:
Anyone know the sound track used? I could swear that is Mean Streak's sound by just listening to it. I'm sure it's edited and what not, but anyone know the coaster sound?

And yes, I am actually now planning a trip to SF over there for El Toro. Kinda Ka had me intrigued, but CP has one that I have ridden plenty, but El Toro, looks to have quite a few things that I like. Give me a 30ft coaster with some good elements, and I'll ride it over one trick ponies.

Just look at those footers inside RT. This looks incredibly narrow and twisted!

I have ridden the other two new Intamin Woodies and I am sure this finale will be wonderfully intense. Whereas Colossos runs a bit out of steam (from the helix onwards) El Toro will certainly get wilder and wilder until the end.

Lets just hope this one wont have OTSR!

wiki wiki wiki wiki...ahh shut up!
this coaster does look pretty cool, but I dont really have a chance of riding it this year. All so my GP friends choose Dorney/Hershey over SF most of the time since most have been there over the last couple years and said they had a crappy time and wont give it a second chance. Ive never been there and never really had the money, so their testamony was all I had so I never had the ambition. If the changes are actually true I would like to save up and go there sometime, just it would be something id have to actually save up for and would probly be going alone since as much as I could try to explain how things were promised to be different all they remember is not being able to go on the rides they wanted to or b*tchy staff. Ill probly end up waiting another year and going with my friends to $18 starlight at Dorney. *** Edited 3/29/2006 4:47:45 PM UTC by P18***

???
All I can see in the animation and the photos is a 100% contemporary woody that does almost all the tricks a coaster like this can do these days.
The first drop looks really out-of-this-world.
This could certainly become one of the best wooden coasters on the planet - it seems that finally woodies can be created along the same paradigms and design criteria as steelies.
E.G. There is this Nitro-esque twist in the airtime moment entering the turnaround, and also the way the banking is handled reminds somewhat of the successfull "Expedition Geforce".
The only thing that worries me is the 90° bank - somehow the supports don't seem to be strong enough - but I'm sure they have made their calculations well.
But the pacing looks fantastic, beginning to end - no MCBR, which just makes coasters so much better - but probably will also make the lines longer (-> fewer trains on the track at the same time)

All the cool moves are in there: let's hope they will be rideable - after all, it's still a wood coaster.
