Dorney in 2003

Okay, it makes a little more sense when I remember SF is wayyyy in the back of the park in relation to WW or Talon.

For that matter, it would be safe to say that Hurt-me-please outdraws the far superior Laser, no?

Judging by the lines when I went 'Playa they looked like they draw about the same, but what do I know?

bs13, OOF does not yet have a playhouse structure, they are building it for 2003. Swoosh meant that since White Water is supplying that, and supplied many of the attractions at Soak City USA, it is probable that at least some of the ten new slides Dorney is getting will be from them.

And talking about CF waterparks, I have to agree with CoastaPlaya' in regards to VF needing a wavepool...bad. Their waterpark is so confined, it almost doesn't seem to be a "park", more of a side trip for your day. At least it is free.

'Playa, Laser is CLEARLY superior to Herc it's true (sorry, hostyl)....shoot, I even have Laser above SF. But if you'd really give me an Impulse (we're talking Intamin steel here, right) for a WAVE POOL, then we're gonna do some horse-trading. Wild Waters, right next door to Silver Springs in Ocala, has an underutilized wave pool that I can let you have for Steel Venom. Shoot, we'll even let you keep the name for your next new flat ride....;)
On Patriot's Plunge, two guests at a time challenge each of three tubing slides from atop a 51-foot-tall tower. One slide is red, one white and one blue, and each is a combination of enclosed aquatubes and giant slides to offer an unpredictable journey that ends in a big splash.

On the 39-foot level of the same tower is Wildwater Rapids, a set of four different colored body slides. Two are enclosed slides, two are open-air slides, and all four take guests on a twisted trip to the splash-pool below. Patriot's Plunge and Wildwater Rapids are located in Wildwater Kingdom on the former site of the Indy Cars go-cart raceway.Jumpin' Jack Splash is another set of three brightly colored new slides. Two open-air slides and one enclosed aquatube slide offer guests a slip-sliding adventure with a refreshing finish. Jumpin' Jack Splash is located in Wildwater Kingdom between Torpedo Tubes water slides and the Wave Pool. The Wave Pool, a half-million gallon swimming pool that provides guests with the sensation of the shore, is renovated for the 2003 season. The existing hydraulic wave-making system is replaced with a pneumatic wave-making system that produces a realistic ocean wave pattern. The entire pool surface is refinished, and the pool depth is reduced from ten feet to six feet. In addition to the new slides and enhancements in Wildwater Kingdom, Dorney Park capital improvements for 2003 also include more midway renovations.

Just for reference - the above info is from DP's web page. They have graphics of the new slides as well.

And odd way to make things public (slap up a page about it at the end of the day with no PR!) - but I sure don't mind!

All I gotta say is, keep coming to the park folks! With those attendance numbers, Dorney will do nothing but grow!

Again, here's to hoping for some Intamin in 2004!

I remember Screamscape saying that Dorney park was looking for an Xcellerator clone on 2004...

Although i think it's unlikely, I'd love having a rocket coaster close to home ;)

I think the rocket coaster is very likely. If Knotts gets an Intamin for 2004(there is a rumor for a giga coaster on screamscape) the buy 2 cheaper deal could happen for the third year in a row. This would give Dorney the option of an impulse or a rocket.

I would seriously doubt that Knott's would get more Intamin in 2004, especially since they just got one.... and a giga-coaster to boot? Where are they gonna put it??

I think in the context of Dorney's available space, an impulse is more likely than a rocket.

Tig: There is a *perfect* spot in Dorney all fit for a rocket coaster. It is right near Steel Force. There is a large clearing that appears to have been an old picnic area. I would be suprised if the next coaster did NOT pop up in that locale. Personally though, I'd rather have the double twisting impulse...

I was reading Dorney's website today, and I was looking at the prices for 2003. I don't think they've gone up too bad.

So I have a question for you fans of the other Cedar Fair parks. Are you really getting your bang for your buck?

2Hostyl: Ya know, I've thought that very same thing every time I look at that spot. Seems like it's perfect for an impulse over there.

Bs13: I certainly think Dorney is worth the value. I got plenty of use out of my season pass, and the extra benefit of being able to get into Cedar Point with it was icing on the cake. Even better this year, I have already bought my 2003 pass for the $78 offer they had in October. And where else but a small park like Dorney can you repeatedly ride a world-class coaster (ahem.... Talon!) over and over and over with little to no wait!

I noticed that both Dorney Park and Worlds of Fun pulled a Six Flags on us. Their parking has gone up to $7.00. I think parking is becoming outregeous at some parks.

But at least at Dorney parking is free with a season pass. Most SF parks give nothing.

Update:

The Speed Slides are currently coming down ... actually they are mostly down already. The slides and supports are all down and being placed on trucks, and the only standing part of the ride is the stair tower.

Also - I noticed on the webpage that on the updated pages the Bumpter Boats are not listed for 2003. Not sure anyone will miss them though.

Mike

Now lets see if they can refrain from setting the stair tower on fire like WOF did when they removed Plunge. In that instance the ride wasn't all the way down yet....preventing any re-use of the slides (not that they weren't going to the dump anyway)

Damn welding torch...

Actually I think your talking about the Body Slides that are being removed. I saw it too. The Speed Slides were just replaced in 99' so I don't think they'll be going anywhere.

Now if they would only remove the Krazy Kars and put in normal Dodgems.

As much as I hate the offseason, it is pretty interesting to watch parks in the winter while anxiously waiting for annoncements.

The Krazy Kars are great! I'd take them any day over those "one way", normal bumper cars. Spinning in circles is fun ;) .
