Dorney in 2003

Ah, come on...Morning Call is the most reliable source out there :)

(I am really kidding, morning call seems to "miss" a whole lot)

geneticfreak, I have a question.

What kind of newsletter did you receive and how did you get it?

Please excuse my last post, I just realized I received the newsletter in my email.

My mom said she went past the park today and there is a black fence around Wildwater Kingdom, you can't see inside. There were some buldozers and she said it looked like the go karts could be gone already.

If they're starting this early, then that must mean that besides the 10 new waterslides, they have other construction to do, like a flat ride or two, refurbishing the currently existing water slides, or a great deal of general improvements to the park.

I was wondering what kind of flat ride Dorney could possibly get. A while ago on Screamscape there was a rumor that it could be a prototype ride.

With S&S expanding their product line, do you think it's possible we could see something like a Sky Swatter at the park?

I wouldn't mind having one of those, but I would rather have tilted seats on Dominator or a Sky Sling.

I might have to stop by and take a peek at Wildwater and see what's going on.

Does anybody know the major companies that produce water rides and slides?

Proslide and Whitewaterwest are the biggest two, I'd expect the new slides to come from one or both of the companies.

Mike

White Water would probably be a sure bet. Most of the rides that were built at Soak City USA in Orange County came from there. Also it has been confirmed that WW will be building OOF's water tree house for 2003.

Are you joking?
Why would he joke?

I would just feel sorry if Dorney "stole" OOF's water tree house. (Even though Dorney is my homepark.)

By the way, on Cedar Fair's website today, it says Dorney had another record year.

I don't think anyone is 'stealing' anything. Dorney already has had a water funhouse for 5 years. Plus, I've never heard of a Cedar Fair park 'stealing' anything from each other, they seem to be on very distinct expansion/addition plans from one another. I've heard of Six Flags and Paramount parks 'stealing' rides from each other - but who knows how that decision process really works anyway. (not me)

Why would they "steal" OOF's water tree house? Each park has their own account, it's not like SF where parks get favored and money is shifted around -- that's not how CF:LP works. Also this might not be the only thing that OOF is getting in 2003. And nope I'm not joking ;)

Here's the deal...
Fact 1) 1.6 million was the attendance for this year (that is what I heard)
Fact 2) Steel Force got it's 1 millionth rider of the year on closing day (I would know....look a the sig below)
Fact 3) Meteor was not advertised becuase the park feared it would have down time (due to the fact it's a freakin Zamperla)

Mr. Nagel -

Did you happen to read the part of your contract with Dorney that restricts you from stating things like those you just stated? Errrrr....

Mike (Who oddly enough is trying to study for a business law exam on what else but contracts...)

Oh, okay I understand now. He meant WWK is building something like OOF's tree house, not taking it.

I'm glad you educated coaster enthusiasts know how things work and tell the not-so educated people like me. Thanks!

Alex Nagel, why is the Chaos in storage?

It took a whole season to score a million riders on SF in a park that draws 1.6 million visitors? How come smaller VF draws a smaller audience, has a shorter season but averages 1.3 million riders a year on WT?

Your figures just don't add up. If you can link me somewhere with numbers from CF, URL away.

The CPlaya 100--6 days, 9 parks, 47 coasters, 2037 miles and a winner.....LoCoSuMo.

I was going to make a similar comment Playa, but use Magnum's 2,130,694 riders in 2001 as the comparison. I realize that CP's attendence is nearly double, but so is their number of major coasters. Magnum, Gemini and Raptor all yank in over 2 million guests per year while MF probably gets between 1.7 and 1.9 million and several more including Corkscrew, Mine ride, Mantis (with terrible capacity by CP standards) and Mean Streak all pull in over 1 million riders per season. 1 million does not seem like a great number to me.

I'm not doubting that Alex knows the numbers as our TLs could find them out exactly for us, including daily comparisons with previous years at any time, but 1 million does seem low to me.

You have to remember that on weekdays even in June, July and Augest Steel Force is dead until the water park closes for the night. Heck we only had the third train on for about 1/2 a day per week. Also the force was down for 2 and a half days when the motor blew out. Also Talon hasn't helped. I know thew number sounds low but that is it
