CP #16 Criticism Unwarranted

In terms of the energy used and wasted by the launch, is it totally impractical to build a mechanism to reclaim and store some of that energy? Like hybrid cars have brakes that charge a battey, right?

O.K. I take back what I said. I guess the smiley face should have given it away. :)

Trying not to flame here but....

It is true that CP at the worst has a roller coaster down for a week to get a part while some SF parks have had roller coasters down for months at a time:

X, Deja Vu (SFGAM arghhh!)

Who care about records....we are getting world class rides!!!

My only suggestion to you would be to find some wood to *knock* on... ;)

This is off topic, but in response to the initial post about X making other steel coasters obsolete.
Believe it or not, there are some of us (well, me atleast, but I'm sure there are others) that don't think X is all and mighty. Personally, I still prefer Revolution to any of the "world class" steel coasters Magic Mountain has built since. I found X to be enjoyable, but it's just another experience. It's different than a B&M floorless, inverted and stand-up. It's different than a hyper. I still like all of these others and in no way think they are pointless now with X being around. I'll still ride them when I make it back to Magic Mountain and several times on my favorites like Revolution, Ninja, Riddler, Goliath and Colossus. I definitely won't ever wait 2-3 hours for a ride on X more than once a day. It's not worth it to me. Now, if I could ride it several times in a single day without waiting in line all day, I'm sure I'd enjoy it more and maybe ride it 2 or 3 times per visit, but I'm still gonna hit Revolution, Ninja and Goliath several times each. If SFMM had a shuttle loop, I'd still ride that multiple times per visit. X is not God!

Just think of it like I do, a 400+ foot vertical drop. I dont care about what the length is as long as it pleases me.

Koaster King, I see where you are coming from, but I think you may have misinterpreted what I said because I don't think I may have been clear enough.

First off when I say X makes the others worthless I mean it kind of takes the rideability away from them. That is why you will see that while X has a three hour line at SFMM, Viper, Revolution, Goliath, Batman and S:TE all have under an hour line. Atleast thats how it was the two times I went this year. I don't mention Riddler because it's a stand-up, so it's really the only exception.

Second, I don't mean the other rides are pointless, it's just that for the majority of the riders they are dissapointing after X. Thats how it was for the people I went to SFMM with who were non enthusiasts, and their friends also agree. Going back to CP I don't see how you could consider Magnum a larger version of Gemini, could you explain that?

I will agree with you on the fact that I am looking forward to Scream more than the new CP coaster. Mainly because I prefer a long drawn out complete circuit. Plus B&M is my favorite company, and both Medusa's and Kraken offer some great experiences. It's just that as I said before, I usually go to parks with non enthusiasts, in SFMM's and SFMW's cases they were my cousins and a few of their friends. They all prefered X over Medusa and every other ride we did, which was every major coaster at both parks. Which gets back to the main topic, how it will be much easier for CP to follow up #16 with a ride that won't have to live in #16's shadow. An example would be a flyer. CP could add a flying coaster and it would be completely unique at CP, but if SFMM were to add a flyer it wouldn't offer that much of a difference from X.

kRaXLeRidAh: Why not? Look at how much "luck" other parks have had with prototypes like X, Stealth, Hypersonic, Deja Vus, S:TE, Chiller, and on and on. Look at 2nd generation versions of some of those (like Batwing and X-Flight) where they still didn't perform up to par.

CP has a reputation. It's the one park I've been to where visits over the last 20+ years I've never seen a coaster closed for a whole day. I can't begin to count the parks I've been to in the last 5 years where the big "star" attraction was down for the day/week/month/and even year! (Not just Six Flags)

Whenever I personally spend a lot of money on something I do research and buy something with a proven track record. CP does the same with their rides.

That's not innovation. That's called letting other parks brave-up to test out a ride, and they copy the ride, enlarge it, then say it is the best thing since sliced bread.

Isn't this where I'm supposed to insert a "somebody didn't read the thread" comment?

IOArules, I say that because they're both Arrow out-and-back record-breaking headchopping steel airtime machines. Of course, Gemini has a wood structure and is a racing coaster, but in general, that's how many people I've talked to have seen the two coasters. Sorry for the confusion on that and your other MM comments. :)

I still don't understand why everyone's calling it "Dragster." It's not the name, get over it. I know most people have agreed that the name will not be "Dragster" but there are still some folks who insist it is.
I have seen ONE coaster closed all day on one of my visits to CP and fortunately it was my least favorite coaster @ CP! Mean Streak valleyed and I think that happend during its test run and it didn't opened until the next day. I took one ride each in the front and back seat the nest day.

Plain and simple:

Enthusiests are the first ones to complain.

Who cares if its short?

You will obviously like it if you are spending Jeff's $ on hundreds of threads about it.

Look you won't admit you like MF. What is CP supposed to do? Put a coaster to Mars? MF is GREAT! I mean it has air, g forces, and its fun!

The GP isn't picky at all. Whats supprising is its the people who are supposed to love em most are the first to complain.

The end. ;)

If you want to be happy for a day go to Cedar Point.

If you want to be happy for a lifetime help other people.

Let a ride like the dragster, be built at a Six Flags park, I bet half of yall that can't wait for the ride to be open at CP would start talking about how short it is and the park is only aiming for the coaster record. Expect long waits, because this thing has bad capacity, you thought MF line was long when it first opened imagine this one.

jay-rider :

How true that is...

And if this thread had been titled "SFMM #16 Criticism Unwarranted" under the scenario you presented, it would have been locked after the initial post.

Yeah, everyone knows SF is unfairly bashed relentlessly on internet forums. Of course this is extremely irritating and frustrating, but in order to continue reading and enjoying the various message boards it seems that it is just something that has to be accepted as part and parcel of the set up.

Also, everyone knows CP doesn't do prototypes. If i was in charge of a park, i would probably follow that same policy (wouldn't have the guts to go for a prototype), and therefore i have huge respect for the parks that do go for the prototypes. After all, someone needs to, otherwise there wouldn't be any new ideas for CP and others to 'copy'.

I don't know, this ride has had a fair amount of bashing. Even us CP lovers are wishing that there was more to the ride.

There is a new twist in the Top-Hat. :)

If Cedar Point annouced anyone of the following. I doubt that anyone would be complainig on this site.

B&M Mega Looper

Screw all that...I say it's about time someone built a good racing looper. Let's push the envelope a little.

-'Playa

-----------------
The CPlaya 100--6 days, 9 parks, 47 coasters, 2037 miles and a winner.....LoCoSuMo.

Personally Bob, I'd rather have #16 than any of your choices. I think the 4D is the ugliest structure yet to be built, there's just so much steel there, I think its an eyesore. I feel the same way about this as I do about TA2Ks, there are much more appealing ways to achieve the same effect (and if you note, CP did find one - although I sitll question the colors). The megalooper is just a Raptor on steroids, I'd rather have a flyer. And the out and back woodie, I'd rather have a twister. So no matter what you build, someone's going to complain, and on your three suggestions, it'd be me. Not attacking you directly, just pointing out that you can't make everyone happy.

And Playa, I agree - although a racing/dueling, a-la steel Lightning Racer would rock too. Flyers for full effect - laying down only a foot or two away from the other train going past you at 50 mph? Sounds pretty intense to me!

You forgot something BullGuy. Millennium Force is was a prototype. It was the first continous circuit coaster to break the 300 ft barrier. MILLENNIUM FORCE IS THE FIRST GIGA COASTER.

Anyone can say what they want. -If SFMM's 400 foot tall Superman is considered a coaster, then so is the CP Demon Drop. The Demon Drop also uses gravity to operate. The car is lifted into the air, just like a coaster train lifted to the top of the first hill.

CP and SFMM are thousands of miles apart. There is no contest between them. The real contest is between CP and Kings Island.
