Complete Flops?

If you're that concerned about record breakers and former record breakers I say go ride Superman: The Escape.

Then you'll realize that Records (do not) = Fun.

Biggest case of Anticipointment EVER!

Right on Gonch and Tekno. And if you think Cedar Point is the end-all be-all of coasterdom -- and I admit it is a good park -- you need to travel outside of Ohio and realize there are other/better parks and coasters in the US.

Or, to use the ice cream metaphor there are other, more tasty flavors than vanilla ;)

Maybe it will flop, maybe it won't. I just see it useless how TTD is only 30 feet shorter and SF is marketing it by saying-"The world's tallest coaster... By far." It doesn't seem fair that Kingda Ka gets world records by cloning TTD.

And riding it would be the same as TTD, so why would I waste time and money to travel to SFGADV when I'm already going to CP? And plus, TTD has a better environment around it.

At least it will only have the record for about 1.5 years though :-)

Ya, it's not like Cedar Point didn't open TTD making it *only* 5 ft taller, and 20 mph faster than S:TE or anything. *gasps*

EDIT: Err, completely missed your post Tek, lol, sorry. *** Edited 3/21/2005 7:57:04 AM UTC by Geewhzz***

Oh? Is that so? I wouldn't bet on that...especially with what's coming to another SF park in 2006.

I know what you're talkin' bout ;).

Record-Shmecord.

I've been sitting here re-ranking my coasters after adding over 30 to the ole' Track Record Solace week. Phantom's Revenge is still my #1. My # 2 is a small woody in Myrtle Beach. Heck, even though my Top 10 is filled with Wood and Hypers, only 4 of my Top 10 are 200' or over (including X), and only one ever held a record, and that was before it's current incarnation. It mostly consists of wood, hypers, and my 2 favorite Inverts thrown in for good measure.

Cedar Point, while a great park, was really more Meh to me. I really did enjoy my day there, but the best coaster in the *entire* park was a record breaker from way back. Nothing beats Gemini at that park, and nothing ever will. An Arrow coaster older than me standing at 125' is the best ride @ CP? You betcha. Then again, YMMV.

The only record I care about is the record for *fun*...:)

And yes Clint, Gemini still roXorz my soXorz!

Isnt perspective funny. I was eleven years old when Gemini opened as "The Worlds Tallest...blah blah" - I was completely underwhelmed! It seemed so lame.

The last time I was there (a couple years back) It seemed so much more fun- without the hype to live up to, it was such a cool ride- excellent head chopper

Throw me into the camp that doesnt give a crap about Kingda Ka taking the record. Sure, I won't be able to say that I have ridden the world's tallest and fastest roller coaster anymore. So what. If I want to say it again, I just need to go ride Kingda-Ka. (actually, I probably will when I go out east for CB Con) But, I digress from my main point...

My main point is, that for TTD/KK being record breakers, they are thoroughly underwhelming. That first ride on TTD was great. I was literally shaking getting on the ride, and got a great rush of adreneline (sp) after getting off the ride. My second ride? Meh. My third and subsequent rides? More meh. You go up, you go down, you hit the brakes. Meh.

In the analogy of taller doesn't mean better, I offer up Xcelerator at Knott's. Now for me, that ride is better than Dragster. It has a better launch, much shorter lines, a more intimate experience with the ride crew, and, well, more ride (even though it's a couple of overbanked turns.) Bottom line is, that if both rides were sitting next to each other on the midway, I would keep going over to Xcelerator. Taller/faster doesn't mean shinola if it doesn't give a good ride beyond a one trick pony.

Certain victory.

Preach it brother Bob! ;)
I'll nominate a park. Six Flags Worlds of Adventure and the four major coasters they built to compete with Ceder Point, only to end up handing them over to the competion. Complete flop would be an understatement.

Ripsaw Falls at Silver Dollar City was a disappointment.

Intamin is laughing at all you losers. They don't care which ride is bigger, they are happy to have gotten money from both of these desperate parks.

Now to stay on topic, biggest flop to me would have to be....NOTHING! The general public will ride everything thrown their way, and I believe that is what was asked when this topic was started. It's a shame that us stupid coaster nerds have to be so picky.

I was pretty disappointed with Magnum when I rode it for the first time. Superman at SFA blew that puppy away.

Buzzsaw Falls was a flop and hopefully its replacement will last longer.

How about Arrow's never-built concept rides, the pipeline coaster and the inverted wild mice with 90-degree drops?

There was a pipeline built, not Arrow I don't think, in Korea, inside a shopping mall. It ran for a very short time but started tearing up the mall structurally, so it was shut down permanently. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

My blog You said, "I'm gonna run you down." I heard, "I'm an orangutan."
Den, according to rcdb the coaster has been installed at a park in Kuwait and is operating.

Here's the link to the coaster at the Kuwait park:

Yeah is Good!

Duane says....;)

Apparently that IS the same coaster, it's listed as having been relocated from S Korea to the park in Kuwait...

In the (fuzzy) picture and video, it is clearly the same coaster. The train is unmistakable and the supports look odd. Almost like they were a solution to the problem of not having the track mounted to various points of a mall (or whatever it was). Plus it definately isn't a Togo, so that again narrows it down to this coaster.

Yeah is Good!

No one said Intamin did care. Congrats on calling everyone who said that (no one) a loser.

Right on UBR! And since when is CP desperate?

What you talkin bout Willis?

X was a huge flop for Arrow...but a great success for those of us who don't want to ride any more Arrows. :)

I rode Mind Eraser at what is now SFA and I consider it a huge flop...but I guess that is one mistake they like repeating.

DT is a flop. The amount of money they put into that vs its popularity just blows.

Wasn't Cornball supposed to be a mild family coaster? If so they failed miserably.

S:TE is a major flop.

I'm not sure what PKD was thinking when they build Hurler. They already had 2 woodies that size. If they were going for an airtime machine with all those bunny hills they flopped.

Yeah Moosh... what do you know?! :)
