Complete Flops?

From RCDB:

History:

During 1999 a apparel company confronted the park about the use of the Windjammer Surf Racers name. So the name was changed to just Jammer until the naming issue was resolved.

The Windjammer did not operate frequently due to mechanical problems. Knott's spent an additional $2 million USD on repairs and inspections over the roller coaster's short life. Due to these troubles in March of 2000, Knott's filed suit against Togo seeking $17 million USD in damages. The problems listed in the suit included misaligned tracks, defective safety restraints and wrinkles in the main frame of the trains. In October 2003 the jury rejected the suit after a five week trial.

It was a bad construction job by Togo and Knott's gave up on it.

Me? I'm dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly. It's the honest ones you want to watch out for, because you can never predict when they're going to do something incredibly... stupid.
Here's another one:

Junior Coasterworks! woodie at La Ronde, supposed to open in 2000. That was confirmed by one of the exec at Coasterworks that they were supposed to built it... but, in 1999, park emp went on strike or were locked out, can't remember. The park was closed for days and so, the park lost enough money they had to cancel the coaster at the last minute.

Although it may not necessarily constitute as a total 'flop', Thunder Eagle at Race World in Pigeon Forge lasted only one season. Race World was more likely the 'flop' instead of the coaster.
I have to agree about the TTD issue. I don't think the issue is SF braking the record by 30 feet. I think that is a fair amount, however I do think it is kinda cheap on their part to basically clone TTD. Yes they have the hill but it is basically a clone. I think it would have been ok to clone it if it hasn't broken any record, but to take away someones record with their own design is pretty sad.

Just a bunny hop?? I still don't understand the "just a bunny hop" mindset. Hypersonic has "just a bunny hop", Phoenix has a few very small bunny hops, and even wild mouse coasters have bunny hops. I love them all, and I cannot wait to find out how intense the "just a bunny hop" will be on Kingda Ka.

As far as a flop, dare I say every SLC design brought to life by Vekoma. Well not exactly a flop, I just hate these rides.

You want a flop. I have just three words for you...Son Of Beast.

The irony of Sonny is that Papa Beast was, and remains, such an incredible success for the park...

"I am NOT your father"....;)

I agree that Son of Beast is a flop. I know that it does get long lines and might be considered a "popular" ride at PKI. However, the ride came forth with massive expectations and missed the mark completely.

One would think they were aiming to eclipse the beloved Beast (overrated as it is). Not only did it not surpass the original, but for most people, SoB came nowhere near that level.

Its incredible eye candy, but the ride isn't nearly as impressive.

For having huge promise and expectations and falling well short, I think SoB is a flop.

I understand the definition of a flop, but I must expand it this once.

SFMM.

Someone had to say it.

I like Son of Beast better than The Beast.

Magic Mountain is one of my five fave parks.

The memories of Windjammer are enjoyable.

I'd like to send out a polite *rolls eyes* to anyone that is pissed over SFGAdv putting in KK as a near-clone of Dragster. Turn off your biased time bomb and remember Wicked Twister being added following SUE at SFWOA and the Vertical Velocity coasters at SFMW and SFGAm.

K bye Mary.

Brother Dave,

Like many others, I've seen Thunder Eagle in the past down in Pigeon Forge, but never got to ride it. But remembering Race World pre-Thunder Eagle...the coaster was probably not the problem.

Actually TE was sold to a ski resort/waterpark in Canada. And according to RCDB it's "in storage". The resorts website also mentions nothing about it. Shame I never rode it, it looked like a decent ride, but I always have to go to Pigeon Forge in the winter. Stupid Chadley!

I, for one, can't wait for the Italian Job to open...looks awesome to me!

Can someone tell me how a thread about rides that were complete dissapointments turns into a flame-war about a ride that hasn't opened for the season yet! Geez.

Ok yes Wicked Twister is a clone of V2 but like I said before, its not the cloning that bothers me, its cloning another parks ride and then breaking their own records with their own design. *** Edited 3/21/2005 12:02:19 AM UTC by MAGXL200***

The Only Thing Worst Then Dieing, Is Living And Having Nothing Worth Dieing For.
Mont Saint-Sauveur was trying to get Thunder Eagle up and running for 2004 at their little water park 45 minutes north of Montreal.

Unfortunately, they ran into the NIMBY syndrome, as the city and residents where the park is didn't want any amusement rides at all!!! They claimed its taller than any buildings allowed in the city.. but never mind the fact the water park already has a water slide tower taller than Thunder Eagle! Last I heard, Mont Saint-Sauveur got the city in court in order to get their amusement park expansion approved.

Last time a Montreal coaster fan checked, Thunder Eagle was still in pieces near Cascades D'Eau Piedmont.

Oh sorry. I didn't realize you were the amusement park business and marketing expert. I'll let you continue believing whatever bizarre sketchiness your mind enjoys. I know I do. B^)

I completely agree. SoB is a very pretty ride, but the brutal beating it delivers just is not pleasurable to me.

Good layout, piss poor execution IMHO.

I'm a masochist and Son of Beast turns me on. Lucky me. =p

I think its so funny how many of the CP fanboys bash Six Flags for making a bigger, faster version of Dragster when CP did it with Wicked Twister when a smaller Intamin Impulse - Superman Ultimate Escape - was just 90 mins east at Geauga Lake. Or when CP built a bigger B&M Inverted after Batman was built. Or a bigger B&M stand-up. Cedar Point is far from guilt in that game.

Do you have any idea how foolish you sound? And what's worst you've all missed the most obvious fact: Kingda Ka just gives Cedar Point an excuse to take the record back with something taller and faster! You should be thrilled that the record has been taken away.

Idiots!

records are meant to be broken...and if that means more coasters built, YAY!

I think if you're worried about which park has the biggest, fastest, whatever-est ride then your missing the point and most of the fun in being an enthusiast.

If it upsets you to the point of annoyance, you need to lay off the coasters for a little while. :)
