Complete Flops?

Yes it is.

And rollergator, you're right. I had forgotten that Mr Freeze was WAY delayed in opening. My BFF Jeff lives in StLouis and I remember he waited and waited and waited. My joke was that I would drive over on Labor day weekend and join him for the grand opening. I wasn't far off the mark as I recall.

I disagree that Disaster Transport is a flop. There is always a line for it, and every time I ride it, I have a lot of fun!

As much as I want to agree that SOB is a flop, there's always a line for it, and a lot of people seem to enjoy it. At the beginning of the season, my cousin Chase said that it was his favorite ride at the park, which really twisted my sense of reality.

...Of course, the reason those two rides may have a line is because of low capacity, but they both are still slightly popular.

Does long lines mean its not a flop? I think some people try to ride every ride they can get on, regardless. Not everyone that goes to a park is like us hardcore fans that read into all the rides. First timers to the park, casual riders and families on vacations just want to ride whatever they can while they're there. It holds true on busy days as well as slow days.

Yes, but just because it didn't live up to some people's expectations doesn't make it a flop.

I wasn't calling that a flop. I was calling the Chiller a flop and the Dark Knight garbage. If a bunch of 12 year olds love it and want to go to the park for it, then it's not a flop. I just wish they would have replaced it with a nice coaster of some sort.

Interesting take. To me it's the 12 year old mentality that says, "that's it?" or "that ride sucked!" - I'd like to think most adults understand the ride for what it is and are able to appreciate a ride that isn't the "-est" as a decent ride.

I guess I just wouldn't call a wild mouse a 'garbage' coaster. I think they're quite fun. Put them in a box with lights, sound and theme and it's even better.

True, you said it was worse than a flop. Here's your exact words, PR:

What makes matters worse is the piece of crap replacement that they put there in [Chiller's] place. The Dark Knight??? C'mon. That has got to be the worst! When we got off the ride, my ride photo actually had me yawning. It spoke volumes.

So Chiller is a flop, and Dark Knight is even worse? What's worse than a flop?

My participle does that sometimes....

Oh, that sucks. I mean, sometimes my infinitive splits but you DEFINITELY have it worse!

Hyper Sonic and Bizarro at SFGADV.

I'd say Chiller was a flop due to the fact that all that money was spent and it wasn't running or would break on a regular basis. As for making matters worse, I wasn't really stating that Dark Knight is worse than Chiller. I was saying the fact Dark Knight was its replacement was what made it worse. If a hotdog stand was put there in its place, the hotdog stand wouldn't have been a flop. It is just horrible that a coaster that couldn't hold up for technical reasons, but was a half way fun ride came down for something that isn't in the same ballpark. Probably not too many coasters could have fit that footprint though, and I understand that.

I will say the hype is WAAAAAAAY overdone for Dark Knight. For the amount of money they probably spent on that coaster and its pre-ride theatrics, they'll get their money out of it. Unless it breaks and is SBNO for extended periods of time, then it won't be a flop.

I can't say that 12 year olds are the only ones who make those kinds of claims. Adults are just as bad anymore, but lets not get into morality. :)

The Wild Mouse is what it is. I just think all that pre-ride hype is actually better than the ride itself. I found the props during the ride and the spray painted messages to look sort of like a recreation council's attempt at a haunted house during Halloween - amatuer and not the caliber of the pre-ride movie and props. To be honest, I would have loved to have seen a movie ride or 3D experience ride there instead. Sorry, it just wasn't my cup of tea, nor was it most of the people's coming out of the ride that day. I think at least 6 to 8 people in different groups came out of that ride telling those waiting not to bother and ride something else.

In short, Chiller = flop and Dark Knight = not impressive to me, but not a flop.

No need to apologize.

The day I was there last year, the queue was full. People were interested. The preshow got applause when it ended the first time I rode.

But I think that's the problem - everything leading up to the ride gives the impression that there's so much more going to happen than a themed wild mouse.

Any negativity (and I've seen it online) seems like textbook cases of anticipointment.

I would agree with Hyper Sonic to a degree, but Bizarro? I highly doubt that a modified version of Medusa will be a flop.

Bolliger/Mabillard for President in '08 NOT Dinn/Summers

It didn't make it better. There was no point for them to do what they did to Medusa. Do it, if its going to make the ride better. It certainly did not. I heard SFNE is way way better than SFGADV.

The point wasn't to make the ride better. The point was to give them something to promote whilst spending little money.

PRWagner's avatar

Bankruptcy means not spending millions to place a new ride. Spend a few thousand and "make a new ride" and people will come. Okay, so maybe we all see through this, but if done right, they'll catch the attention of the casual park go-er and bring them out.

Mamoosh's avatar

Of course we see through it. Average Joe Parkgoes does not. Believe me, I speak to people here in LA who think Ghostrider is new.

I think the bizzaros are a flop or a lemon. The ride is still better with the music and fire and the mist but I just can't see it being a success. I think things would be just as good if we did not have bizzaro. Also it is hard to describe since it is just a facelift and still the same coaster but I mean technically it is a different coaster. The name was changed it is not superman: ride of steel anymore. Then again that is up for debate.
