We all know that every new coaster is billed as the "world's greatest ride ever built," (by people other than Paul Ruben. ;)) But I'm wondering if there has been any big coasters recently that have millions thrown in and have been complete flops and fancy sceneary? I'll throw out the first name, Mean Streak.
Me? I'm dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly. It's the honest ones you want to watch out for, because you can never predict when they're going to do something incredibly... stupid.
Windjammer [TOGO] Knotts Bery Farm - would jam in the wind [no lie!]. It operated sporadically from Mar 26, 1997 - Mar 2, 2000; then sat SBNO for a year before being torn down.
Steel Dragon? How so? The reason is has not reopened has nothing to do with the coaster. Rather its due to the Japanese being very supersticious.
I wouldn't call X or Deja Vu complete flops either. X run pretty reliably now with two trains; SFMM and SFGAm's Deja Vu's were open all summer and the one in Germany hasn't had any problems.
Deja Vu, V2 @ Marine World, Steel Dragon, Wind Jammer, Wind Jammer, Wind Jammer, Wind Jammer, Wind Jammer, Wind Jammer, Wind Jammer, And of course, Wind Jammer. And maybe Kingda Ka. I hated it enough that SF clones most of their rides, but now they are cloning sombody else's ride ( and throwing in a bunny hop...reeeeaaaallll cooool. not!)
I think the person who started this thread needs to define what he means by "complete flop." In my opinion a complete flop would be a coaster that never ran reliably and wasn't embraced by the public.
Whatever your definition of flop is. Mean Streak isn't as bad as I thought listening to some of these. Just trying to make some interesting offseason discussion. ;)

What was that ride at IoA that never opened? I know it wasn't a coaster but that seemed like a pretty big flop. *** Edited 3/19/2005 5:05:23 AM UTC by Fastball84***

Mean Streak..heck no. You should have seen the queues and happy riders the first 3-4 years. It was a smash success. It's just suffering from age, and is also in a remote location.
Steel Dragon? heck no. It too was/is a smash success (one of the best steel I've ever ridden!), just currently closed but will reopen soon (next year or so supposedly....and that's fast for the Japanese!)
Windjammer..heck yes. Deja Vu...it is in my book! But what first came to my mind.....what myself and others thought might be the greatest coaster even when announced....................SOB. Go ahead, flame away (but judging by the SOB thread, I won't get many!) *** Edited 3/19/2005 5:12:26 AM UTC by Peabody***
Real Cbuzz quote of the day -

Yeah that one. It sounded pretty costly just to be fancy sceneary (sp?).

X is both a sucess and a faliure. It is a very popular ride, but it sufurs from a lot of downtime and a horrendous capacity. IMO, it's not as good as it use to be; it's gotten a lot rougher.
