If your participating in the event, I don't think you need a pass.

I agree, there were plenty of people last year that didn't have passes. If I remember the entry fee covered your way into the park because it was so early that turn styles weren't open, we went in through the gate office at least at CP. You just had to be on "The List"
OK, that's kind of nice. That's good to know.
In either case, I'm always down for helping out GKTW.
I'm still kicking around actually buying a CP pass this year, especially having days off during the week. I kind of miss being able to run up there whenever, but the feeling of going once or twice a year, makes it that much more "special".
Even if your getting admission with the readily available discount coupons, a Standard Pass still pays for itself in 3 visits. It's even more worth it if you get the discounted pass at the end of the season (for use in the following season)
I think I had my Platinum Pass paid for even before I got to Cedar Point this year. I had a visit to Kings Dominion, Carowinds and Knotts before I ever got to Cedar Point.

Oh I know all about the discounts, I had a pass every year from 2000-2008, but last year, and this year, I've skipped out in favor of home renovation and landscaping. :)
I'm probably just getting antsy because I'm cooped up at a desk in a lower level area, with no windows, and it's always raining when I'm off. My wife wouldn't be getting a pass, and I'm not down with the whole doing CP by myself thing, so I don't know.
I totally understand.
Even if I didn't go on regular days or to other parks, I would probably still get a pass. CoasterMania plus BooBuzz plus either Great Ohio Coaster Club or ACE usually have an event as well. Sometimes they both do.

Figures, I was all ready to put in a vacation request for July 29th only to notice someone else already has vacation that day so I won't be able to get it off. :(
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
Great news, but the details are pretty light.
Have they decided what coasters will be used at each park?
What time will the event start and end?
Will there be any prizes this year?
I am assuming that it is OK to post this link on other forums?
It also appears that you must pony up the $50 to start and can't fund raise your way there. For me that is $200 which is a bit steep coming out of my pocket, but wouldn't be an issue for me to raise. I can understand that this will avoid people registering and not coming through with the $$$ but still makes it a bit tough for those with multiple registrants or younger potential participants that would be able to get grandma & grandpa to get them funded.
Just some food for thought. We all (including my mostly non riding wife) are looking forward to Coasting for Kids 2010.
Jeff, I thank you for your work on this event and hope we can raise 10x what we did in 2009.

Exactly what is this, I'm new to the forum, and I'm looking for an excuse to get up to cedar point this year. Anybody that can explain this I would appreciate, thanks.
It is a fund raising event for Give Kids the World. You register for $50 on the link above. It will be a chance to marathon a coaster at each park. Last year it was Gemini. I got 88 laps in but others got as many as 129 laps in. This is not an endurance test, it is a fund raiser.
Your registration includes admission to the park.

I assume there is a limited amount of spots per park? I would love this! Any idea on what coaster it would be at Dorney? I am crossing my fingers for Steel Force!!!
There was a slight error in how that was set up. You don't have to front the $50... you can and should raise that money. It'll get fixed shortly.

The parks that don't have a racing coaster will be interesting in how they handle this. I could see taking over 1 train on a coaster and if more people are signed up then will fit on 1 train they could add 1 train on another coaster.
I think this would be a better way then just closing the ride for the event. When we were at SFOG opening weekend they had a radio endurance event on GASM. Even though they only had half a train of people the ride was closed to the public. It left a lot of people rather upset. Being a charity event some of those negative feeling could be deflected to GKTW.
One thought I had after last years event was that it would have been great to have the group be walked over to some of the other coasters for a single lap getting on from the exit. This would be of minimum inconvenience to the other park guest but would have given the event participants some variety and a chance to stretch our legs.
Thanks Jeff. That is great news. I have a customer that would donate the a large amount, but I need to get it set up first. Is there a way that I could set up a family page rather then 4 separate pages for each of us?

Do you not know which coaster that is marthoning until you get there? I live halfway between CP and KI, and depending on which coaster was which would decide which park I would go to.
I'm in and only Chuck Norris can stop me now! Or a 10 hr CP/LE railroad marathon..
Last year was Gemini. I would love it to be a different coaster this year. But, I understand the reasoning behind using it versus a different ride.
