Coasting For Kids 2009: 8/26 at Cedar Point

Thanks Jason for summing up the day for us. It was such a blast, and great to make some new friends, bringing me out of hiding on the forums around here. My goal for the day was to ride at least 100 laps and I am happy to say that I reached 110! Not too bad considering I took a few breaks throughout the day.

After 20 rides I hopped off for my first potty break- I couldn't go without coffee this morning, even for this! At 50 rides, the park opened to the public and we switched from the red train to the blue train. - talk about disorienting, I had been so used to turning left! At 57 the ride had a malfunction and we had to stop for about a 1/2 hour - a welcome break for bathroom and lunch! When the ride came back online I continued on to 75 laps switching each lap to hit every seat on the train. I was starting to feel a little sore and kinda dizzy, so I took a long break (about 45 minutes) and had some water, called home and walked around a bit. From there I pushed on to 87 and took another break, then finished out the day straight through to 110 all in the 2nd to last row on the nearly empty train. It was quite fun to sit in that back car and see all the empty rows in front of us!

It really was a great day and for a great cause. At one point I had an opportunity to ride with a mother whose family stayed at Give Kids The World, her son was riding as well! It was so great to hear her talk about what a wonderful time they had at the village. It struck me that our efforts today made more memories like hers possible!

My personal fundraising goal was $500 and I raised $530, but the tally is still going up! I am now up to $590!

If anyone is interested in learning more about GKTW here is a video tour I produced a few years ago for Things Remembered and GKTW.

This was the main reason I decided to do this event, plus it sounded fun! Thanks to Jeff, CP and the GKTW people for putting it on, it was a fantastic time for a fantastic cause!

I had a lot of fun at the event, even though I only got somewhere around 15 laps in! Note to self, don't eat cinnamon rolls before riding Gemini 7 times :(

But I ended up hanging out with the ladies from GKTW and Jeff most of the day and still had a lot of fun! And hey I came back and still got a few more rides in!

It was a great time and I hope to do it again next year!

I was wondering the same thing. :)

So Jason, have you decided whom is joining you on your VIP tour?

BTW, congratulations on raising that much $$$.

Before you can be older and wiser you first have to be young and stupid.

Thanks for joining me in the back, Vic! It made the last couple of hours fly by!

Not yet. But, I'm sure it will be the family.

Susie said we're at $8,693 now, and it doesn't appear to be slowing down.

Feel free to keep pimping out your giving links... it's be sweet to exceed $10k!

I have it posted on my home page, on Facebook and I'm currently adding it to my e-mail signature. I've had a couple donations roll in since the event.

You don't. Unless the user e-mails them to you.
