CoasterBuzz Club launched at CoasterBuzz.com

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

CoasterBuzz is proud to announce the launch of the CoasterBuzz Club. With an annual membership of $20 per year, members will get access to an advertisement-free version of CoasterBuzz, access to special events and discounts at select amusement parks.

The first confirmed club function will be at Paramount's Kings Island in the 2002 season, where construction continues on the mysterious Tomb Raider: The Ride! CoasterBuzzCon 2002 is sure to be a great time!

Check out all of the benefits and join today!

Thank you Jeff. I signed up moments after receiving the email yesterday evening. Personally I think you've come up with a great system to pay for the costs associated with Coasterbuzz while giving those members willing to contribute money some meaningful extra benefits.

Hey, I'm only fourteen, but my dad's letting me use his card. But, will that mean that "Name as it appears on Card" is the name that will be on the CB ID card?

If so, what am I suppose to do?

Jeff,
AAAARGH!  I just got my new Check card and its not active til I use it at the ATM. I'll have to wait til tomorrow to sign up.

Anyway, perhaps Karl from TwistedRails would be interested in heading up the WEST. Karl???? Maybe getting something setup for the opening of X would entice western US Cbuzzers to consider joining.

Will joining make this formatting proble, go away. It is really annoying. What causes it?

Yeah this was the smartest idea, there's no way I'd pay for this site but instead of forcing us to pay you left it as an option with some worthy perks which is the smartest thing out of the short list of things you could do.  Also, I would much rather not pay and get pop up ads then pay for a pop free forum but some people I guess feel differently.

sigh, SFNE goes "tiny" for 2001
aahh! I can't tell you what a relief it is to finally be rid of the ads! I am so sick of being bombarded with adertisements from nearly all aspects of life. I feel cleaner and more relaxed already. It really is quite therapeutic to boot out the commercials!

It's a great deal, the Holiday World discount is quite generous and if more parks jump on board then I figure the fee will pay for itself.

That's funny, I replied to the poll that I wouldn't pay for CB...and guess what I did as soon as I saw the newsletter? ;)

Yeeee Haaawwww!
This is great. I will see you all at PKI.
I dont know why people are uspet one way or the other. If you dont want to pay, fine DONT. If you want to pay fine DO. Thank you, please drive thru.

I just want to know one thing, do the memberships run calendar year jan1 - dec 31 or for 365(6) days (say nov 1 - oct 31). If it's the latter, I'd probably sign up just because I need *something* for SRM :)

Jeff, will you be willing to take a gander on if you'll have an event @ WoF?

Your membership is effective immediately and lasts exactly one year from that point in time (to the second). Access to club.coasterbuzz.com is instant. Since we are more or less in the off-season (you SoCal people take it easy ;)), signing up now gets you through all of the summer 2002 season.

The good news is that members who have been quiet lurkers are coming out and joining, and many of them are stepping up to share their relationships with the parks. That's good news because I think we might at the very least have little ERT events as such.

I'll be honest with you... there won't be an event at every park, and I don't think it's realistic to expect it. It takes time to build relationships, but they will mature over time. The early adopters are supporting a long-term cause, and for that I thank you.

Major shouts to Paula from Holiday World for jumping in there. See, I can use my relationships for good, not evil. :)

Lol. G'day Jeff, however there is one problem; other than the full, ad-free site, the rest of the benefits don't apply to non-US members such as myself. Is there anything you will do about it?

Otherwise I have plans for a 3-6month world/US coaster tour in the future & will sign up to make use of the benefits.

Hey, if you want to try and make an event happen down under, be my guest! Like I said though, if getting a spot of ERT is all you're looking for, this isn't the club for you.

Hey Jeff!

Great deal. I saw this and automatically knew I had to join. So, since I am 16 and do not have a credit card,I used my moms. Does that mean her name will be on my card....I hope not!! Well... thanks and keep the good work up...

I'm not really a moron, I swear!

Dude - Who cares if it helps pay for the site,  the site would be a majority of the clubs content.  It would in a sense be the revolving door of the club.  Apparently Jeff has arranged some ERT at a park, and he intends to do the same at other parks.  You want in?  Pay the dough, otherwise forget about it.  I personally can't really afford 20 bucks, along with lots of other folks.  Am I sitting here b***hing about it?  No.  The fact that I suggested it in the other forum proves nothing.

DejaVu SFMM 2001 was right.

How does that link prove he was "right"? Right in what way? That it's a scam? Not at all.

Jeff has been perfectly clear what the purpose of the club is. Have people not been READING the info page?

Where does the $20 go?
A little more than half goes to support the CoasterBuzz site. As advertising is no longer a viable way to pay for expenses, this offers members an opportunity to help out. It's almost an "honor system" of helping defray the cost of the site. The rest goes to getting your membership card printed, mailing it and dealing with the administrative costs of setting up events. We hope to use some for charitable donations as well if there's money left over.

It's spelled out right there! Yes, the club is to help support the costs for this site. In exchange for that, Jeff gives members bonuses.

This isn't rocket science, this isn't a scam, this is a simple, hopefully-effective, way of keeping one of our favorite websites up and running, FREE for people who don't want to pay.

Jeff COULD have just said "Screw this, I'm losing money, I'm shutting down". He didn't, instead he took the time to figure out a way to keep the site going. Bravo.

If you don't want to pay, don't. But don't go saying it's a scam.

Well put, GregLeg.  I only hope people begin seeing this as a HUGE positive in Coasterbuzzing.  What a great idea in our little haven.  Hats off to Jeff.  I also hope some people begin going to CA (Conspirators Anonymous).....

Two critically important questions for me....

1) Has there been a decision on family memberships yet?  For a family of four, you're currently $5 higher than ACE and twice as expensive as either NAPHA or Coaster Zombies...all of whom mail newsletters, too.

2) Will CF honor Coasterbuzz membership for CoasterMania and TimbersFest?
