I paid my dues. It's worth it to me to get rid of the annoying ads!! I love this site, and am happy to support it.
38.4 cents per week isn't at all reasonable... its a bargain!
This, I think, will also get CB members to meet more of eachother at the events. Its a win-win situation overall. $20 bones is reasonable and to those that dont think so, compare it what other coaster clubs charge. You get unlimited add-free access to CB along with  perks that those other coaster clubs offer. "YOU CANT BEAT IT!"

"The Peoples Elbow" or "The Spinaroonie?. Cant decide which is the most electrifying move in sports entertainment!!! LOL
While it does sound like a great idea, and I understand that it costs to run the site, it is a bit frustrating, when I go to use a service that was previously free, and now I'm requested to pay for it.  I just went to add a coaster to my track record, and was told that I needed to be a paid member.  Still debating on whether or not to join....I may be forced to so that I can use the services that I've become accustomed to.
How old do u have to be to join?
Good luck with the site.  I'll miss chatting with ya'll.

I would be willing to donate to a pool for the less fortunate Buzzers so that they can join and be free of the ads too.  A feature to think about Jeff.  :)  But I think that there should be some guidelines for one to be able to use the pool money if you deem that a possible solution for those who can not afford to pay $20 or are too young to have a credit card.   Just a thought.  I think I will join shortly and also will order my CB t-shirt finally.  :)

Sure it's a scam, but  a very good one!  Really, the site has costs, and twenty bucks is more than reasonable.  Count me in.  We are lucky to be living in this great new age of coaster mania, and to have this site as a resource.
I tried to join but

"The parameter is incorrect."

what gives?

everything's better with a banjo

It's amazing how a little thing called money gets folks riled up.  Those bickering need to start thinking of CoasterBuzz as a business, Jeff's business.

The business has some fixed costs, and with the addition of a club aspect, additional costs associated with the administration of a club.  The business also has some revenue, either through advertising, or dues money.  Jeff is basically saying "Take your pick, adverts or dues"

Now, speaking for myself, I probably have the least to gain by joining the club.  As I use client-side ad-blocking software, the ad-free piece isn't a selling point. What IS a selling point is the club concept.  If the CoasterBuzz Club can get the same recognition as a traditional coaster club, and be able to keep member dues down due to being a paper-free club, yet still provide all the news you expect out of a club, it just may be a viable alternative.  Call it the coaster club for the Internet Age.

Umm, SLFAKE has some good points. I have no problem paying the 20bucks, but due to my hectic schedule, I dont know if I'll even attend 1 ERT event. So, if you choose NOT to participate in the *new* club,  why does the options from the *old* coasterbuzz all of a sudden are not available to you?

Why shouldn't they have access to special areas? They are paying dues. When you pay for AOL, you are allowed access there. But if you don't pay for AOL, then you should hardly begrudge the people that do pay for access.

I personally am choosing not to join. I am a ride-op at PKI, and have already ridden all the coasters there. I don't mind pop-ups all that much, either. But I think this is a great idea for people who do join. I think they will really have fun with it!

The forums and news will always be available for free. That won't change.

Some people don't want to pay for the club. That's fine. I'm not sure how its very existance gets some people upset though. I also don't understand the limited vision of people who think that it's just one event at PKI (there will certainly be more). Heck, I shell out $50/year for Heavy.com, and there are no events or interaction with other humans at all, and I still think it's a good deal.

To those who are members, welcome! To those who choose not to join, continue to enjoy the forums, news Rollback, databases and other parts of the site for free.

Any thoughts on adding a "family membership"? I already joined, but my hubby and I have always enjoyed maintaining our separate track records on the site. I think an extra $5 for a family membership would be reasonable; it's something that many other clubs do. Something to think about.

That's under consideration for sure. I'm all for it, I just have to address the challenges of "plumbing" to process the transaction. (Unless of course I offer some kind of "old fashioned" way of doing it by snail mail!)
