Cedar Point's Blog is teasing us!

In a way I guess yes, but at the same time it's become somewhat obvious that nobody is exactly overjoyed or planning a major trip to ride Skyhawk this year. It's almost as if the 2006 doesn't really matter and it hasn't even started yet! Of course I really have no idea outside of the coaster community how people feel about it, but then I'm not sure how everyone here feels about it either. I'm sure it's going to be a great ride, but I went to CP 2 times last year and didn't even bother with MaXair.

Cedar Point knows that Skyhawk and MaXair were not going to draw in crowds. They weren't meant to. They were meant to be another ride in an already impressive ride lineup. A complement to the other rides that are there. To reduce the number in line for everything else and increase total rider/hr across the park as a whole.

As to what we have at Cedar Point....I will be very surprise if it is anything more than some sort of a family coaster. Maybe other rides/themed section to. I was kind of thinking that area would make for a rather large and nice kiddie area if they decide to do that. But the footers suggest otherwise.

I don't think a park will ever put any amount of money into a ride that they know isn't 'meant to' bring in people.

They build rides for the purpose of attracting more people. Flats don't draw the number of people that coasters do, but when you already have so many coasters it's probably a good idea to help round out the selection a bit.

If CP had felt that no one would come to ride something they wouldn't build it. Even if it "only" brings in a few thousand more people, it's an investment that will hopefully eventually pay itself off.

It is going to be a 500' Toboggan on a 150'x150' footprint. There will be 10 blocks on the way up and 25 block-brakes on the way down. Cars will seat four across in four rows and be equipped with IR-Lasers for the pop-up targets on the way up and the way down.

At the top you can exit and have lunch in the revolving resturaunt before your trip down if you like.

Four guy-wires will reachout to various parts of the park to support the tower. Zip-line rides down them will be only $10 during the grand-opening.

It will be the worlds longest, tallest portable lift roller-coaster, dark-ride and diner.

I don't know if rides like Maxair and Skyhawk are really intended to bring folks that wouldn't have normally gone to the park. What I think rides like that help to do are to get repeat visits from existing patrons. No one like say, Moosh for example ;) is going to hop a plane just because of either of those rides. But, Mom, Dad and the kiddies who come for the roller coasters, but decide to try this neat new ride that everyone can ride and it keeps them from getting on say TTD? Think they'll be back later in the year? You bet ... and that's probably MORE of the type you want to attract than a new person from across the country.

Just my 2 cents ...

Holy crap, logic in this thread ... I might have to come back and delete this post ...

Whatever the new ride is, I think it will be in the scope of TTD or MF. CP is due for another big something.

Lol at the last thought in Impulsive's post followed immediately by MrScott's brilliant deduction.

Right, Mr. Scott...because none of their last coasters have been big. << sarcasm
Cedar Point could be building a 500' statue of Mamoosh. If so, I probably won't even get the chance to be the first person to violate it. Those pesky builders are simply too sly for me.
Mamoosh, you misunderstand my post. "I think it will be in the scope of TTD or MF", was not meant to indicate sheer size of the ride, but more an indication of what I think they may spend on it. The last "big" project was TTD, IMO. WT, maXair, and Skyhawk were all cheapos by comparison.

I think water will be involved in some way. I also think it will not be a replacement flume. We'll see.

He's probably saying that all of us aren't even close to what will be there next season.

And I'd love to wear a Paramount shirt when I meet him! Oh wait, someone I know already did that!

Can that be nominated for geekiest post of the week? Like the CEO of a major, Wall Street listed company would really take .2 seconds out of his day to worry that some geek saying hi to him in a park is wearing a "competitor's" shirt ... someone's got an overblown sense of their own importance ...

If you go see Disturbed in concert would David Draiman care if you were wearing a System of a Down T-Shirt? lol.
Anyone want to buy a shirt that has a silkscreened image of one of these new footers that says "You know what they say about big feet"... Because that keeps coming back up in this thread. Those aren't big footers.

You're right, they're ALIEN SPACECRAFT!!! CEDAR POINT'S BEING RUN BY CRAB PEOPLE!!

They're concrete blocks in the ground with attachments stick up off of them in the middle of an area that's being rebuilt in an amusement park ... what else do you think they are?

I don't think he's disputing that those are footers, just the "big" part. Reread the post.
Thanks matt, the "big" was the whole point of my post. I'll scan my ACI Code pages if anyone wants to back-calculate the apparent design strength of the footings in question.

Yeah, I'd take that challenge, enfynet. Check your PM for my email addy.

But who has the results of the soil testing?
Does anyone know...is it possible to 'retrofit' a wooden coaster using the Intamin 'plug n' play' track? Could the Intamin track be set on top of a pre-existing set of bents?

Yes...I was thinking about Mean Streak when I thought about it....

Fever I really enjoy the Simpsons. It's just a shame that I am starting to LOOK like Homer.
