Cedar Point says Top Thrill Dragster is done, sort of

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Cedar Point today announced on Twitter that Top Thrill Dragster is being retired, but they're hard at work creating a "reimagined" ride experience.

The ride has been closed since August 2021, when a metal plate detached from the ride and struck a guest in the head, according to a state investigation.

Looks like we're going to hear something on August 1st. Posted at 4:20pm no less!

It took me longer than I'd care to admit to realize the 8 was not a 3.

According to their Facebook page, it looks like Holiday World and CP are going to announce their new rides on the same day.

^^ It took me way longer than it should have to realize there were 3 v's, so I feel your pain!

ends up being the worlds tallest dragon-wagon

It already was one of the world tallest dragon wagons, now that you mention it. This new version will have a spike, and go backwards. It'll be the worlds tallest, fastest, and first, dragon wagon with a backwards spike. A record-breaking coaster for sure.

right up CP's alley

V represents the Roman numeral for 5 and there's three so 3x5 equals 15. August 1st is Jerry Garcia's birthday, Jerry was in the Grateful Dead who played 2314 shows across thirty years. Therefore it will be a 15-launch 2314ft tall coaster that still only lasts 30 seconds

Am I doing this "thoosie" thing correctly?

🤓🤓🤓

One of the taglines on the construction walls yesterday: “Nowhere to go but back.” Make of that what you will.

No photo because there was a family with young kids standing in front of it and that would be creepy.

Someone pointed out the possibility of air race theming, and that makes a ton of sense - being that the planes in air races often have a smoke plume (smoke the competition) and in air racing, you’re essentially “driving the sky”.

I did a little bit of digging, and who’d have thought that Formula V air racing is a thing?

Also, the planes do a vertical turn maneuver that really resembles a top hat.

Not saying this is it, but it’s a pretty solid coincidence.

Only it's not a thing. It was a thing, but it's been a defunct class of air racing for some time. That webpage was last updated in 2012.

I dig the air racing vibe, though. I would vote for that vs. another car-theme.

Promoter of fog.

Will Ready to Go still be apart of the ride though?

Meh. I can wait 9 more days.

Touchdown:

The band seems on board with the idea

As long as it is the US version!

Could someone younger than me please translate that tweet into readable English?

Republica would look like to perform their hit "Ready to go* at the opening of TTD 2.0.

They apparently need work.

Also, they're still a band, apparently.

And the US version still sucks. 🙂

I’d be happy to not hear any version for the rest of my life.

Dual headliner with Republica and The Red Rocker to open the ride.
