Amusement Today released the results for this year's Golden Ticket Awards from Paramount's Kings Island today. Cedar Point and Holiday World again scored big in several categories.
Cedar Point picked up Tickets for Best Park, Best Capacity, Best Games Area, a second place for Best Souveniers, Best Steel Coaster for Millennium Force, 3rd best steel for Magnum and 12th best steel for Raptor.
Holiday World again got the nod for The Raven as the world's best wood coaster, with The Legend nailing the 4th place position. The park also Tickets for the Friendliest Staff and Cleanest Park.
In the best steel coaster category, the new winners included Six Flags Great Adventure's Nitro in 4th place, Kennywood's Phantom's Revenge in 7th, Holiday Park's Expedition GeForce (Germany) in 8th, Six Flags Magic Mountain's X scored 20th and Six Flags Over Texas' Titan in 23rd.
The wood coaster list shuffled around a bit, but went largely unchanged with the only new entries being Heide Park's Colossos (Germany) at 16h and Indiana Beach's Cornball Express at 18th.

Why don't they ever include Gwazi? That is my favorite wooden rollercoaster ever (at least untill I ride Lightning Racer). Why is the Texas Giant on there that is the most heavily braked ride I have ever riden in my life. They say how it is so cool that it seems to get faster the whole ride at the end, well that is because it is the only part not braked excluding the first drop. I'm sorry it doesn't deserve to be any where near the top 25.
I dont see why Cedar Point keeps winning top capacity! Although I have never been there, compare these: http://www.rcdb.com/quicksearch.htm?quicksearch=Cedar+Point , http://www.rcdb.com/quicksearch.htm?quicksearch=Europa+Park
Eurosat, that 2900 foot indoor coaster runs 7-16 passenger trains! Euro Mir, the spinning coaster ride runs 9-16 passenger trains! Even Disney or IOA would be a better contender. Only 1 Millie train can be on the circut at once!

I love Deja Valley. And Stunt Stall too!
Iloveerica13 - "they" [meaning Amusement Today] have no control on what coasters or parks get mentioned. The readers vote, and if Gwazi wasn't mentioned its because it did not received enough votes to make the Top 20.
Simple as that.

I beleive the close proximity to water is the only difference between the S:ROS at SFDL and SFA. I personally rank SFDL's better too because I thought the water visually added to the ride. *** This post was edited by Catherine on 8/27/2002. ***
The wooden coaster list that shows up for me still has last year's rankings, with Phoenix at #4 and Legend at #5 and so on...
I can understand Goliath being rated higher than Titan, but 9 spots? Hmm...
X also seems like it deserves higher, and Steel Force lower.

Believe it or not: God loves you and can save you!
Do you believe?
SROS at SFNE has two tunnels; not one.
SROS at SFDL is over a lake and much prettier whereas SROS at SFA is over a deserted lot that doesn't look nice at all.
I noticed that there are 15 steels in the top 25 that are hypers. I guess people are steering away from inversions which kinda defeats the purpose of the steel coaster; doesn't it?

SFNE's Superman's the best!
Does anyone know the 26-50 for wood and steel? I know it's stretching it, but they get published somewhere (at least they did last year).
Mindbender has definitely stood the test of time, it can still give any new steel coaster a run for its money.
Please remember, this is a poll. It is an average ranking based on all opinions. Please do not cry if your coaster is underrated...for there is one person who dislikes it as much as you like it. Hence, a poll. (I do sense a slight bias in this poll, however, towards older coasters and coasters at large parks...a coaster with a large ridership has a much better chance. We won't be seeing Katun, which appears just as good as Montu, Raptor, or Alpengeist, in here anytime soon. ;) )
-----------------
My two favorite coasters are both named Superman.
Nitro, Gemini, Laser, Ice, Thunder...The American Gladiators!
To answer an early question, yes these are important awards. The voting is limited to knowledgeable people and is arranged such that ballot stuffing is difficult. The only other polls that I pay as much attention to are the internet wooden and steel coaster polls.
There were a couple of things that surprised me.
1) Fiesta Texas for best shows. I haven't been there, can anyone tell me what their shows are like? Certainly unusual for SF to have great shows. I was also surprised to not see any Orlando parks at the top in this category.
2) Lightning Racers didn't make the top 3 for coaster stations. I can only presume that it finished 4th.
Wow! Both Superman ROS and Boulderdash placed in the top 3! (both are at my homeparks :) )
I look foreward to seeing hos SFMM's X does next year.
Well anyways...
Congrats to the winning parks :)

Although steel track allow the possibility of inversions, that is not the purpose of steel coasters. Steel just enables an engineer to build a coaster higher and stronger than we can imagine.
