Cedar Point, Holiday World again dominate Golden Ticket Awards

Posted | Contributed by Raven Maven

Amusement Today released the results for this year's Golden Ticket Awards from Paramount's Kings Island today. Cedar Point and Holiday World again scored big in several categories.

Cedar Point picked up Tickets for Best Park, Best Capacity, Best Games Area, a second place for Best Souveniers, Best Steel Coaster for Millennium Force, 3rd best steel for Magnum and 12th best steel for Raptor.

Holiday World again got the nod for The Raven as the world's best wood coaster, with The Legend nailing the 4th place position. The park also Tickets for the Friendliest Staff and Cleanest Park.

In the best steel coaster category, the new winners included Six Flags Great Adventure's Nitro in 4th place, Kennywood's Phantom's Revenge in 7th, Holiday Park's Expedition GeForce (Germany) in 8th, Six Flags Magic Mountain's X scored 20th and Six Flags Over Texas' Titan in 23rd.

The wood coaster list shuffled around a bit, but went largely unchanged with the only new entries being Heide Park's Colossos (Germany) at 16h and Indiana Beach's Cornball Express at 18th.

Get all of the results from Amusement Today.

I figured I'd get deleted :)

Anyway, what's the general consensus on these rankings? Worthless? Meaningful? Somewhere inbetween?

I was surprised that Phantom's Revenge placed so highly, for one. I was also surprised that X was so low-I would surmise that is based on downtime.

Awesome job to Holiday World and Cedar Point! After visiting quite a few parks this year I was pretty certain that Holiday World would be a good contender for a few of the Golden Ticket Awards. No wonder their attendence has been booming this year.

Congratulations to all the other parks that made it in the top ten lists.

I survived the Extravaganza!!
Parks this year: 35
Beatings from Kara: 13

Glad to see Cornball "formally" recognized. God knows many of us have been raving about it around here.

Congrats to Holiday World. Friendly, clean and home of the Raven!!!!

Also, S:KC at SFFT with a well deserved Top 25 ranking. *** This post was edited by IBsteve on 8/26/2002. ***

Way to go, Paula! You and all your crazy staff in Indiana. :) I'll try and drop by whenever I get a free weekend.

I'm also glad to see Dueling Dragons finally get its props.

Legend sure made a significant "jump" in my rankings this year.....those new trains are GREAT! HW deserves EVERY bit of recgnition, and then some....

on a side note, CE was cited, and that's good news, but 18th....? I certainly can't think of ten coasters overall I'd rather ride, much less 17, and just wooden coasters....

Knoebels won for best food (again) and souviners! They were listed in a few categories too.

3rd for best park

2nd for friendliest staff

2nd for best dark ride

The Phoenix came in at #5, Twister #22 for best wood coasters.

Way to go Knoebels!

S:ROS @ SFDL was #10 fell 4 places this year so sad.......
I guess i can look at the bright side at least SFDL has one coaster in the top 10!
Nice too see Idlewild get 3rd for best Kids Area. Definitley the most beautiful park I've been at.

Although, I would've liked to see Mega Zeph get some recognition it deserves. Definitley the most under-rated roller coaster I've been on.

Personally, I think these are a little bit better than last years winners, although I would love to have seen Raven and Legend at #1 and #2.

At last, the Grand National gets some of the recognition it deserves, and creeps in at #23. Thankyou ACE members who visited BPB on the Europe trip, although I don't know what you were thinking with The Big One at #21, but I suppose it makes a good replacement for Desperado, which drops out.

I really ought be voting for these things myself, having ridden 42 out of the Top 50.

anyone notice there almost isnt any inversions in the top ten.

Can anyone who has been on S:ROS at both SFDL and SFA explain the different rankings?

And you all know I agree with gator!

Chris, same thing can be asked about Titan and Goliath.

Doesn't SFDL have two tunnels, and the one at SFA has none, that would make a difference.

As for Titan, it is supposed to be an improvement on Goliath, but I actually prefer Goliath. Probably more peeps have been to SFMM than SFOT.

By the way, the Beast has gone back up from #12 to #7. This is probably due to the new brakes, although I preferred it with the skid brakes.

S:ROS @ SFDL doesn't have any tunnels.

S:ROS @ SFNE has a tunnel.

Wow, I never realized that Kennywood was located in Anaheim, California! Maybe it's time to check that one out. ;)

Can I go to!?
I would love to see what Kennywood in Anaheim, California has to offer!
So what did Paramount win? LoL Best destruction of original park theming and most ride removals?
