Cedar Point announces Wicked Twister and Snoopy Rocks on Ice

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Cedar Point announced this morning Wicked Twister, a 215-foot Intamin Impulse coaster that will reach 72 mph. This larger model will have twists in both spikes and go a full 450 degrees.

Meanwhile, the live entertainment portfolio will be expanded to include a new "Snoopy Rocks on Ice" show to cool of those hot summer days. The show will be performed in the "Good Time Theater," formerly known as the Cedar Point Cinema.

John Peck:  I agree with you 100%.  I would have thought they'd go for a dual loading [if that's even possible] or two tracks to increase capacity.

But before anyone jumps on my back I think this is a good addition to CP.  I also happen to think that given today's economy it is also a wise decision.  WT will be a relatively small investment [$ 9 million] to help the park or another CF park build their next coaster. While the addition of WT alone does not make me want to fly out from LA and visit CP I know I'll enjoy it when I eventually get out to the park next...perhaps in 2003.

I thought the main reason for NOT having a second track was due to the amount of power the ride will substain.

When was the last time that CP built a major coaster for under $10 mill?

OK...one more comment:  having ridden V2 at SFMW, where the rear holding brake was not working, and SUE, where the brake WAS working, I can say that I definitely prefer the holding brake in operation.  Any word if WT will also have one? With the spirals I'd guess not.
This addition just doesn't make sense to me. Low capacity, it's been done about ninety miles away, Five launches is the same as SFWOA, and the back twist really isn't that much different. I would think that CP could have put in something equally or more thrilling, probably for equal cost (and less in electric bills), that would stand out in a region that has conciderable competition. They were never the first to build anything, but the first in the area. And usually the biggest at the time.

Another ride is good, and I really don't think that it will boost attendance to all new highs; so the new ride can thin out the crowd more. I'll still go and look at the thing (and maybe ride if there is no line). But I don't think that this is something that will sway someone who is undecided about making the trip out there. To sum up, I think any ride is good, but the park could have done more with equal spending, therefore I am confused (and as a coaster fan disapointed, and yes I do realize that the park owes me nothing!)

On S:UE, I actually like the backwards vertical spike with brakes more than the forewards twisting spike.  Of course, twisting backwards might change that!

I sort of thought it would be a little higher, also...it's only 25 feet higher than S:UE.  I have a feeling people aren't going to be able to tell there's a height difference at all.

The name and logo are very cool also...here's a rendering:

All in all, I think it will make a great addition, adding more variety to CP's lineup.

As for Snoopy on Ice, I wish they would have replaced the aging IMAX technology with an OMNIMAX or something, but it will be great for families.  Wonder if the "Good Time Theater" is going to get any kind of facelift?

"It looks like they just decided to hang up wheat all over the park" - my friend Steve, describing the FearFest decorating at Kings Island.

Im kinda confused. I wish coaster enthusiast would for once take off their colored coaster glasses and realize parks just dont build coasters for them. Im already seeing posts where people prefer the vertical spike vs the spiral (yet they havent even been on WT to make that determination). I guess Jeff was right, people are going to complain no matter what a park gets.

Where does someone say they prefer the vertical spikes over the twisting, Ive only seen that people like the straight feeling nowhere did I say i prefer one over the other or has anyone else yet. Maybe someone should put there glasses on.

Uh oh, I hope this doesn't mean that Knott's is getting one too. Impulses are boring and tall people can't ride them :)
I can tell you v2 doesn't get the 900/hour like they claim.  More like 600.  This ride has only 4 more seats, I'll give it about a 650 average hour IF they are moving fast and have no delays.

I personally think v2 will be better, you completely lose the weightlessness of the back tower, and also the hold on the lims.  I don't see this being anything exciting.  Sorry :)  Now a flyer at Georgia...THAT'S something to be excited about.

supermandl:Where in my post was I referring to you? Maybe you should re-read my post. Its called a general statement. Meaning, other message boards besides this one!

Point out the others you are talking about I dont see any saying what you claim they say. I'm sorry If im coming off strong here but you made the statement and I find no proof of it. I see you fixed the last post to include other boards, you should have said that in your original post it would have cleared alot up.

It's also called *opinions* coasterr. I don't really hear anyone complaining. Most are agreeing that this will be a cool ride, but I see nothing wrong with expressing concearns or opinions.
I'm sorry but 215 ft just doesn't impress me.  That's only about 20 to 25 ft taller then the others.
If everybody was happy with the announcement we wouldn't have much to talk about...

I am still trying to figure out why people have opinions of this ride and havent ridden yet. Save the drama until you have experienced it.

"The Peoples Elbow" or "The Spinaroonie?. Cant decide which is the most electrifying move in sports entertainment!!! LOL
I like the name. The location is excellent. I was hoping for a dueling pair, but since I really like S:UE, I think this will be a lot of fun.
Does that mean we have to stop talking about how cool the new ride looks or how cool it will be to ride since its only our opinions [joke] LOL.

Should be fun! My only concern is the ride capacity (1,000/hour, as compared with Magnum's 2,000/hour, and Raptor/Mantis 1,800/hour). I was hoping for dueling coasters, mainly for keeping the line moving. But like I said, that's my ONLY concern! This ride is going to be great! Plus, it adds to the variety of coasters at CP. Twists on both ends? Now THAT will be a trip!
Well first of all I imo see nothing wrong with Wicked Twister except the name. Every since the Twisting Impluse concept debuted I was thinking Intamin should make both spikes twist, Now that it has finally happened I can only hope I get to CP to ride that beast or one is built closer to me.

The only reason I posted HAHAHAHAHA in the other topic that got closed was not b/c I didn't like the idea, it was that some of you people thought it would/could never happen at CP.  That was just my way of saying HAHA it happened, eat your words, Jeff was right, it's not five hundred feet so get over it, some of you people are getting a great ride and still don't appreciate it, type of laugh lol :O)~

Anyways Imo WT will be a great coaster to CP's collection wether you like it or not.
