Cedar Point announces Siren's Curse tilt roller coaster

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

From the official Cedar Point site:

The legend and lore of mysterious creatures living beneath the surface of Lake Erie comes to life with Siren's Curse, North America’s TALLEST, LONGEST & FASTEST tilt coaster.

Often spoken of – but never spotted, the sirens of the lake who lured sailors to their underwater demise with their sweet, seductive songs will finally rise to the land above Cedar Point and attempt to entrap you in a sinister two-minute fate of non-stop roller coaster innovation.

The roller coaster will be 160 feet tall and reach a speed of 58 mph.

It kind of depends. The portions have honestly gotten bigger for most things, more than sample size. I'd say from $4 to $8 mostly, except for Italy, which I believe is run by a concessionaire asking for way too much for every item. Also the filet mignon in Canada is always pricy. I recently had Impossible chicken tenders in Odyssey, and to me it was a meal portion, $7.75.

runaway train coasters

Big Thunder at DLP is top tier: 1 its on an island, and you go under a tunnel under the paddle boat to get there, 2 its crazy long and more intense then the others 3 the final drop back into the tunnel has to be over 100 ft its nuts for a Disney ride. 4 You get to look at Phantom Manor the best relanding of a Disney Classic.

There is also a reason the Matterhorn has lines nearly never below 45 min…

The DL Space Mountain post rebuild is pretty damn good, especially compared to any standard mouse thrown indoors or tame spinning coaster, extra better now that they fixed the LED tunnel strobes.

The New Tokyo Space Mountain, and Villains concept coaster are promising but we shall see if they pull back as always.

...each of which is generally inedible.

Totally, it's not even good food. And they want like $11 for a little prosecco. I think that's what I pay for an entire bottle.

Mulfinator:

Outside of the enthusiast community does this really matter? If my research on rcdb is correct there is currently one tilt coaster currently operating in the world, in Taiwan. Almost nobody who visits Cedar Point in 2025 will have ridden a tilt coaster. It's custom enough to them.

At the risk of nit-picking, anyone who's ridden Escape from Gringotts has ridden a tilt coaster. There are a bunch of locally-built tilt coasters in China, too – this one for example:

Your main point about it being custom enough for Cedar Point holds, mind.

Jeff:
Vekoma recently posted a highlight reel, and it's hard to believe that this is the same company that we loathed around the turn of the century.

Vekoma hasn't built a bad coaster in the last decade. The only reason the enthusiast community hasn't noticed that is that most of their creations have gone to Asia.

...and Disney, which enthusiasts dislike almost as much as Disney enthusiasts.

Fly is a masterpiece, but I also loved the original three Dutchman in the US. But yeah, night and day over what they used to be.

I’ll take any SLC over any Dutchman. The trains are the only issue with the SLC. I’ve always thought the layout was its strength.

Unfortunately it's not only the trains – it's the track fabrication.

The best SLC by some margin is the one at Morey's Piers, mostly because it got completely new track not too long ago.

I thought the new trains were the reason Nor'Easter improved. But I got curious and looked into the retrack, and the only definitive info I can find is a blurb on the Morey's site claiming a faster and smoother ride. I never rode this particular one but seem to recall it was one of the worst offenders (T2/3 aside). Why was the Morey's one so bad compared to others? What's different about the new track vs. the old?

Isn't mine either, but for different reasons.

To be fair, that picture was taken while a filming (probably holiday filming) was happening in the Castle HUB. Production literally fills the streets with people to make it appear packed for the performance that was happening. Not that Disney isn't already busy, just with people walking both directions:)

It comes down to how accurate the track production was on any given day.

The new track that was manufactured was closer to what the design specified than the old.

Lost Island is planning to replace some pieces of their SLC over the next while in order to smooth it out. It'll be interesting to see how that goes.

Track is on site now for Siren's Curse, per Cedar Point's social media. Wonder how long for the ride to go vertical.

Counting down the days until I'm back at Cedar Point, the one and only place to be.

Is this confirmed as coming (or not coming) from Mexico now ?

Nothing to see here. Move along.

Def coming from Mexico. Its that red track spotted down there, so unless there is a SECOND red tilt coaster, its most certainly the Mexico coaster.

Super late to this topic, but the Grizzly Mountain Minecart or whatever it's called at HKDL is also quite good.

It's weird, but something about Disney seems to take normal rides and make them much more engaging to me. Like, I'd rather ride Thunder Mountain than Thunder Striker most of the time even though it barely has any forces and is ultimately as generic a mine train as they come. Maybe it's the theming, maybe it's the atmosphere, maybe it's that I'm usually riding with my family on an extended vacation, but there really is something magical about it that makes it much greater than the sum of its parts.

Which is exactly why Cosmic Rewind is one of my favorite coasters anywhere despite not being especially tall or fast.

isn’t DL Space Mountain mostly Dynamic Attractions post 2005?

^ Yes

Back to the topic at hand, did they start pouring footers yet? My understanding is that it's inadvisable to do this when the ground is frozen, so if they don't get this done soon they might have to wait til spring. Once those are done the steel should go up pretty fast.

Thankfully, the weather in Northern Ohio continues to be unseasonably warm. Hopefully they are able to take advantage of this.

Enjoy the rest of your day at America's Rockin' Roller Coast! Ride On!

It is doable. Just costs more.
