This is the second time now on this forum that I've been ridiculed for putting up information that is hypothetical or based on assumptions...

Can't speak for others but I did not ridicule you. I simply stated that I was skepticle of the article. As soon as Gonch posts it we'll know for sure...and I'll gladly apologize if necessary.

Here you go guys!

The scanned article

(note: for clarity's sake, this is the article Demopopulator is referring to and scanned - not one that I found)

No, Mamoosh, you're absolutely right. I have thrown an edit in correcting the use of the term "everyone" in my last post. I just cannot grasp why CB topics can so rapidly turn into an "I'm right, you're wrong" chest pressing contest.

ok, now im believing kennywood is on to something great!

I still don't understand why Kennywood doesn't have any of this online or why an official press release hasn't been submitted to anyone.

Huge news, none-the-less.

Do we know what date this was published?

i am so excited! (does dance in boxers reminescent of tom cruise in risky business)
Once again, I am not putting forth my concrete opinion. However, just consider the following possibility: In the article, it does say it was a small press conference in the park itself. Perhaps it was only made accessible to a limited amount of media entities, local ones, specifically, so as not to let word catch too quickly? Who knows? It may even be a red herring article. I'm sure Henniger is not without enough common sense to know people will fall for anything, and he certainly has the finances and the local connections to get a teaser article circulating. I reiterate, this was all that was given to me. I only wish I had more on the topic... :(

Sorry Lord Gonchar. I doubt this was a top-of-the-page article, since the top section is clipped. I'm assuming the date, usually at the top of the page in most papers, was hacked off. I checked the Post Gazette website, as did a few others, apparently, and as I said, I got nothing exactly similar, but I did find a message saying that many articles released in physical print are not relegated to the archives, with priority going to the more relevant articles, such as politics, sports, etc.

First of all, the point of a press conference isn't to "not to let the word catch too quickly." If that were the case, what would be the point of having a press conference at all? What would be the benefit?

Secondly - this article was "given" to you? By whom? You mean you didn't see this in the paper yourself?

Still not saying this isn't legit or anything but you can see why this does seem a bit weird...

Also, googling "Jerry Dolan" + Pittsburgh Gazette brings up a whole bunch of nothing.

If someone wants to call the paper the number is

Main Switchboard: (412) 263-1100

I'd do it myself but I have to run to the pharamacy, asap.

Or write an email I guess. *** Edited 7/27/2006 10:05:12 PM UTC by matt.***

Nope. I've already said the article was shown to me as a scanned JPEG file. I saw it exactly as all of you see it when you click on Lord Gonchar's link. Hence, I am not defending the information outright. Just food for thought. The article was scanned and shown to me by a friend of mine who lives and works in pittsburgh. I'm actually due to visit him in a week or so, and if I can get my hands on the article, I'll be sure to let everyone know. I don't know what proof I can offer that I'd have actually seen the article in person, but I can promise, for what it's worth, that I won't make any false claims if it does indeed turn out to be a phantom article.

Is anyone slightly disapointed by this? It doesn't sound very Kennywoodish to me.
i think it is healthy for kennywood to expand their market by becoming a big contender in the amusement business. like it or not, kennywood wins and so do we! cannot wait to hear more of this!
Really the only thing different that this article tells us are the companies involved and the type of coasters they plan on building. The expansion is public knowledge and has had it's own press release. As far as the expansion goes, they have pretty much said that they are not going through with it untilt he new expressway is finished. It won't be finished for a few years.

If you are going to speak, make sure it is an improvement on the silence

Well, the Intamin, obviously, would be a bit of a genre-swing, but I don't see a problem with a big Gravity Group woodie, especially one that would follow the terrain. It's not like Kennywood hasn't thrown a vastly succesful heap of wood into the niches and crevasses at the park before... ;)

True, but, while the credibility of this article is still less than 100%, it only mentions a 2008 release date specifically for the Gravity Group project. I'm sure they'd want to control to flow of people coming to an expanded park by building the expressway beforehand, but would one wooden coaster really swamp them to such an extent that the current route to the park would become totally useless? *** Edited 7/27/2006 10:27:49 PM UTC by Demopoulator***

I love all the apologies raining in after everyone wanted to nail demo to a cross.
I still doubt the validity of the article, but I'll clam up pretty damned fast if this one turns out to be true. :)

Ok, I just got back and wrote an email to the general news department of the paper. Hopefully there'll be somebody around to get back to me.

No one is trying to nail Demo to a cross...we simply doubt the validity of the article he was given.
