Cedar Point '07 Project

maybe I was thinking of no particular layout or something. Great news anway, Kennywood is really moving up.
Does anyone actually believe that news story is real? Honestly...

-Nate

Not to be Debbie Doubtful, but it is a little suspect that such a huge announcement would have happened unnoticed on this board.

Well obviously some people do. I am not one of them but I'm willing to be open-minded if the guy can prove it.

DEMOPOPULATOR - what is the date the article was published? I've gone to the Post-Gazette website and searched for that article. As suspected nothing is found but with the date of the article one can easily find it in the P-G archives.

Why....are we talking....about KW?

IF this is true, I think the real question is why AREN'T we talking about Kennywood?

And yeah, I definitely want to see the article. It just reads "too good to be true."

Actually, Corey, it reads "written by a coaster enthusiast." ;)
Sounds like all expansion plans are contingent on taxes and a new toll road/expressway

Nice try. If this was true, don't you think Kennywood would have done a press release instead of letting someone from the Post Gazette break the news?

Haven't seen a post like this since razor86 who seems to have fallen from the face of the earth, or perhaps he has resurfaced as demopoulator...

This one does mention the idea of two coasters (one steel and one wood) but also says that the expansion may be as far off as 2015. I think the original poster did in fact read this, however, I don't think it was an official anouncement of any kind. Not do I think these plans are set in stone

http://www.kennywoodinsider.com/expansion.html

this article also mentions the possibility of a new coaster and the plans for a major expansion

Official word from Kennywood. Does mention new coasters but not number or kinds.

GWJ, I nornally would have retorted that a claim so bold doesn't deserve for me to read the entire document, but the $60 million was in the first line. ;)

Tru dat!
Could this be the article he was referring to?

Kyle Says: Diamondback was a lot of fun! Made his first time at Kings Island worth it all!

Well, the article that's posted above certainly did NOT come from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. I would really like to know where the information came from. Trust me, I hope that it is all true. I just about fell off my chair to even think of Kennywood having a rocket coaster. No more traveling 4hr 30min to ride something that isn't even running at the moment! (Just got back from CP last night TTD snapped a cable...again). Let's all hope the rumors will pan out for the best and in my opinion Kennywood is and always will be a great slice of Americana. Back to CP. I did get a view yesterday of the construction going on. I think everyone's guess is as good as mine...Intamin defintely... although it doesn't look like it's going to be very tall from the size of the support columns, but I did notice that many of the columns are severely banked.

I'm skeptical because the article is *too* accurate. ;) Seriously, when the press is reporting that SoB had 3 loops is any reporter going to figure out what the heck a top-hat is or what year the Intamin Rapids Ride opened?

...but I have no other immediate means of sharing the information, so hand-typing it as a forum-post was necessary to share the news. As I said before, if anyone would like verification, I would be more than happy to email the image file of the scanned newspaper clipping to anyone here. Email kingdemop@yahoo.com requesting the article on the expansion and I'll send it right along as an attachment.

Since there is so much interest, send it to me. I'll gladly put it up so we can just add a link for people to click on and check it out.

webmaster@coasterimage.com will work just fine. :)

Guys, guys, guys. I'm not defending the absolute veracity of the article. I'm just sharing what was given to me. Lord Gonchar says he'll set up a link, so you guys can see the image for yourself. (much obliged, by the way, Lord Gonchar) Also, as far as the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette archives go, I know the deal with the lack of search results in the archives. It does say on the search page there that many articles published in the paper do not make it into the webpage archives, if you look. However, once again, no need to string me up and burn me. I'm not gonna take a Paul Revere ride out through CB screaming "the rockets are coming," trust me. ;)

Yea, I'm sure the Post Gazette would waste print space on typing out the names of the manufacturers that are going to be providing the rides. No one who reads the article is going to care about that. Looks to me like he took the "real" article (which I remember and which does have some similarities to his "article") and spiced it up with coaster enthusiassness.

Nice try. Do you happen to work at a deli? Do you expect Kennywood to expand near the Pittsburgh International Airport? Or would you like to build your expansion in North Carolina or perhaps Indiana. Pass the syrup.

It's all true! Honestly!! Except for one minor omission...

After years of planning and testing K-Nex will be installing the Screaming Serpent coaster at Kennywood - complete with kinks in the track. Vekoma are looking forward to being referred to as the new B&M ;)

In a bold move, the park wil also rename itself to K-Nexwood in order to market the new ride competitively :)

Oh come now. I didn't "try" anything. I cannot understand why everyone here is so immediately hostile towards anyone who puts up anything regarding any possibly skeptical information. It's really quite frustrating. I did not write the article. I do not have the know-how to edit the article or the image. I typed exactly what I saw in the scanning of the article. I do not stand by or endorse the information in it, I'm just sharing something that I happened to notice with the crowd for analyzation. This is the second time now on this forum that I've been ridiculed for putting up information that is hypothetical or based on assumptions, yet both times I have stated that it is merely my curiosity and desire to share what I have come across for discussion that led me to post the respective topics. Why must some of you go for blood?

EDIT: I'm sorry. I shouldn't say everyone. It is prevalent enough, though. Why all the anger? *** Edited 7/27/2006 9:39:04 PM UTC by Demopoulator***

yeah its too specific for an article that claims it has interest in a couple of companies. i didnt know "interested" meant they already put together layouts of roller coasters on their new property.

i do not doubt that a new wooden coaster is on the way in the next couple years, an out and back as a matter of fact. this is undeniable.

2008 is too soon. maybe 2010-2011 we will see the project finally realized.
