Cedar Point '07 Project

Wouldnt it be nice if the new construction was to make TTD longer,to go all the way to there and back.It should have enough speed to do that with that 420ft lift hill(tophat),its nice to dream... :)

Is the announcement in Aug.? If so what date?
matt.'s avatar
Announcement date hasn't been confirmed as far as I know. Even the August thing I believe is just rumor.

August is not a rumor. I belive it was mentioned at the Q&A at Coaster Mania that they were planing on making the announcement sometime in August. Early or Late they did not say. I could be wrong about the venue, but CP definatly said August.

Wasn't the August date also mentioned in a stockholder conference call regarding the purchase of Paramount Parks?

edit - not a specific date, but rather an announcement would likely come in August. *** Edited 7/19/2006 1:10:24 PM UTC by coasterfreaky***

At they pace they are working at least by the end of Aug the will have a lot of the coaster up and will have to announce what its going to be. Ya I remember reading the Aug thing somewhere but it was'nt fake because a quote was used from someone a CP.
Hope its a really good coaster.

Gotcha, last I heard was that it was definately going to be at least "this year."

I've been following this thread since it started, and I don't think anyone has mentioned this yet.

I was looking at issue 72 of First Drop, which is the one that covered the most recent IAAPA convention. In the "On Track" news section, there are several items marked "HAI" -- Heard at IAAPA -- that are supposed to be pretty solid. Anyway, there's one for Cedar Point that says:

"Cedar Point is looking to add an Intamin LIM coaster for 2007. Which style of coaster it will be is unknown, but with the park's removing White Water Landing, it was thought it might have been an Aquatrax coaster, but this does not appear to be the case."

Now, I saw this when it first came out but sort of pushed it aside because I thought for sure it was going to be some kind of water coaster or a B&M floorless. Obviously I was wrong about the B&M, but when Intamin track arrived I thought that FD was wrong, and this actually will be an Aquatrax.

Now I'm not so sure.

Several people (here and on other sites) have mentioned that this could be something like Rita, and the more I think about it the more possible that seems. If you think about it, a Rita-type coaster (maybe with a few more airtime hills) could easily be compared to the sensation of riding a bull or bucking bronco. It wouldn't be too hard to theme the front and back cars to look like the front and back of a bull or bronco, similar to what they do with the car-themed trains on several other rocket coasters. And it would all tie in to the Frontier Town/Maverick theme.

I dunno....ever since I started thinking about this as a possibility it all seems to fit together very nicely. I would still love to see the Aquatrax, and I suppose a multi-looper is not entirely out of the question, but my gut tells me otherwise. I just hope if it is something like Rita they use the same restraints that are on Dragster instead of the OTSRs.

Well, whatever it is, there are tons of pictures of the new supports/vertical construction over on Pointbuzz. :)

The folks running Cedar Point obviously have a close relationship with coasters in general, since they've been building so many for so long. And Mr. Kinzel seems to have a genuine love for coasters in general. I have nothing to base this on besides speculation and perception or whatever but I just can't picture Cedar Point building a non-looping coaster with OSTRs. Then again I never thought they would build Wicked Twister either so maybe I could be completely off base.

I like your idea, though, but that just may be more of my enthusiast head talking. A speedy, airtime filled, twisty-turny, low to the ground Inatmin rocket-coaster sounds like a 100% blast to me.

Not saying its likely or anything but if CP doesn't build one someone else *should* some day, that's for damn sure.

And thanks to bobthecoasterguy for making me regret not quoting something from columbuscoaster's post. ;) *** Edited 7/21/2006 6:30:17 PM UTC by matt.***

^Wicked Twister has OTSR and it's non-looping.

Lol, ok, you got me on that one. Still doesn't negate the sentiment in the original post.

You're quite welcome. ;)

So now who's going to take those Pointbuzz photos and work out a layout based on footers and the supports in place? :)

matt.'s avatar
The dweebs over at pointbuzz are probably already workin' on it.
The August announcement date is correct. If I remember correctly when Fox 8 in Cleveland went over there digging up some info, the spokes person said that an announcement would be made later in the summer around August on what our 2007 Project is.

What is the sign on Mean Streak in this picture?

Welcome back, red train, how was your ride?!
Lord Gonchar's avatar
It probably says, "Mean Streak: Ride now because the line is going to get a lot longer once there's something to pull people back to this area of the park!" ;)
