But if somebody decides that they don't ever want to go back so what? What difference does it make to you? Somebody's whining all right but it ain't me.
Clearly there's an expectation gap about the topic. I don't think anyone here has said that's a problem. I'm annoyed that Cedar Point cut down more trees in front of the games area. I expressed my displeasure, and I'll probably mention it to John next time I see him. Will I call up the media and say, "Look what those bastards did!"? Of course not. What would be the point?

It's about the disturbing opinion of many here that it is NOT OK to express an opinion and to let Kings Island or any other park, company or person know that you are not happy with a decision they made.
But that's exactly what some people did in the case of the removal of this ride. I don't care if you have an opinion different than mine. It ranks thousands of places down on my list of concerns for today. When you start to harm relationships that we as a community strive to maintain, that's a problem.

I have no idea what anybody did or didn't say to the media that would harm relations. What I am saying is that there is nothing inherently wrong with telling you, John McCain or the National Enquirer what I think Kings Island should or shouldn't be doing. One can choose to do that by throwing an incoherent temper tantrum or they can express their opinions in a diplomatic well-reasoned way. I support the second choice.
(considering you can't exactly BOLT new trees to the ground)

NOTE: Severe fecal impaction may render the above words highly debatable.
Now PCW sending the Great Whale of China to Carowinds... THAT is a travesty! ;)

In my field, businesses bribe me into talking about their products. They go so far as to buy me stuff like food, drinks, playoff tickets, box seats, etc…because word of mouth is just that powerful and I am the one who talks. If you go over recent business they received from people I talked to directly, you would wonder what they are thinking; but if you know the true power and effect of word of mouth then you would think they were getting one hell of a deal.
So…a company gets me playoff tickets and then changes a policy that pisses me off. What do I do? That’s right, I tell them I’m displeased and have even stopped doing business with some of them. They are there for me…not vice versa.
Long before this topic came up I thought about the sales work I have been doing for parks for free. Being in sales you can see things that others don’t. Some people just think I talk about the park, but I close deals for them all the time that they cannot close themselves. A company I used to work at a few years back had a picnic at VF because of me. The company I work at now will probably go to CP this year. A friend of mine in St Louis who loves coasters but is not an enthusiast was complaining that she did not like SF:StL but really could not put finger on why. I went with her, was able to articulate what was wrong with the park, took her to Holiday World, pointed out some details that you sense but may not notice, and now she goes there all the time even though it is 2.5 hours farther for her. She had not even heard of HW before that. I have many more stories of people going to parks they never heard of before because of me, or of them going to different parks because of me, or of them having a better time at parks because I gave them tips, or of them going when they would not have otherwise because of me.
I am just one person. Even if enthusiasts make up only .01% or whatever of the GP, we make up a much larger percentage of the word of mouth advertising that parks get. There is no right to only get positive word of mouth advertising. Businesses know that so they bribe those who talk as much as they can. People in my field have attractive women buy me lunch or they send me to playoff games. People in the park business have ERT. It’s fine that they do that, but that does not automatically entitle them to only positive word of mouth advertising. They still have to perform. In fact, the performance comes first and the bribe should just be a “thank you” for pointing out that performance to others. Don’t sell yourselves short. Most parks won’t if you don’t let them.
BTW, I have never snapped flyers. It is just the “we are only enthusiasts and they are parks” nonsense that got me started. :) *** Edited 3/18/2005 8:46:18 PM UTC by RavenTTD***

I'm not sure I understand the humilation comments from people either. Anything you do of a physical kind is going to be awkward at first.watch more experienced players play the game.
Using your rational then nothing, if done right, is inherently stupid looking. I tend to disagree. No matter how good the dancers in "Riverdance" are, to me they look completely rediculous. It's the same for DDR. I wasn't talking about the people who don't really know what they're doing looking stupid. I've never once seen someone playing it and said "Wow, that's sweet, now I get it!" To me, EVERYBODY looks like a fool on those stupid things.
How the hell did DDR make it into this thread in the first place? Oh yeah, a terrible comparison.

See, we obviously agree on that.
I support the second choice.

>>Which goes back to one of my original points. These people are extremely coordinated, extremely athletic, and have good bodies.
I used to do sound for a lot of ska bands. The first time I saw people skanking, I thought it looked ridiculous. But the more and more bands I did sound for, the more the people doing the dance didn't look so ridiculous anymore. It's part of their culture, and they're having fun (is that an issue for you as well?). Listen, any kind of dancing can look ridiculous to you if you're unfamiliar with it. I also used to do sound for bands from Eritrea (look it up on the map). Their dance was very strange to me at first, but I got used to it.
It's the same for DDR. I wasn't talking about the people who don't really know what they're doing looking stupid. I've never once seen someone playing it and said "Wow, that's sweet, now I get it!" To me, EVERYBODY looks like a fool on those stupid things.
>>Again, see above comment. And, hmm...let's see. Even the beginners are getting excercise and you're not. Who's burning off the crappy park food and who's not? Then, you made the asinine comment that some people could be excluded because they already know what they're doing. Then you say EVERYBODY looks like a fool. So which is it? It can't be both ways. Also stupid was your comment about people not picking up the game by watching other players. How do you think I learned? I also had friendly players who gave me tips. In most things in life, you watch other people to learn how to do things. Have you ever skied or snowboarded? Would you just strap on the skis or a board and not get lessons? I would hope you would say "no".
>>Come to Baltimore and go to a place called East Point Mall. There they have kids who play DDR to the extreme, as in tempo and level. They're doing extreme cardio and having fun at the same time. What's foolish about that? They're burning calories galore, and not sitting at home playing passive video games. Some schools even have DDR for the kids during gym time. It keeps them active, because as you may know, the current crop of kids won't live as long as the seniors of today based on current trends of non-excercise.
How the hell did DDR make it into this thread in the first place? Oh yeah, a terrible comparison.
Someone decided to throw it into the mix, even though it had absolutely nothing to do with the thread title. *** Edited 3/19/2005 10:44:38 AM UTC by Intamin Fan*** *** Edited 3/19/2005 10:57:20 AM UTC by Intamin Fan***
But you're right. I hate other people having fun. Thay's why I've got my own site:
www.thingsotherpeopledoforfunthatIhate.com
But that's not it at all. It's just DDR that drives me nuts. I think it's partly because this "coaster" site has a whole forum devoted to nothing but DDR. I find it interesting that several topics get closed because they don't relate to coasters, yet this beloved game is worthy of it's own forum. Now I understand that Jeff enjoys the game and it's his site and yadda yadda. It justs something that irks me a little and adds to my disdain for the game.
Thanks for correcting my spelling mistake. I am humbled by your intellect. And thank you for assuming I had never heard of Eritrea. Again, your wisdom and tact are beyond words. Is it hard being the smartest person in the world and constantly having to deal with idiots all the time?
Skiing? Never heard of it. Guess I'll have to check it out. Is there anywhere I could learn in Colorado? (look it up on a map) Because that's where I live. *** Edited 3/19/2005 11:54:22 PM UTC by Incidentalist***
