Take the restaurant for example. Suppose everything you liked about the restaurant went away? Would you stop going then? If only half the the things you liked were taken away would you still go? Would you be concerned? Would you tell the restaurant that the changes aren't pleasing you? Are we all just supposed to be stupid ignorant and happy with every decision ever made?
Parks often remove something I like and it upsets me but I still go because there is still stuff I do like and sometimes they'll add something I like. It all usually works out. But Kings island just doesn't have much that I like in the first place and now there is even less there that I like. It would be stupid for me to waste my time going somewhere that isn't as fun for me as it used to be. I have more things I want to do then I have time to do them and life is waaay to short to give any extra time to experiences that no longer appeal to me.
Will I *never* go to Kings Island again? Probably not but it certainly is low on my list of priorities.
And what's wrong with complaining? Pointless whining is a problem but if somebody is sticking you with a pin would you just sit there?
I don't do DDR because I'm afraid of looking like a fool ;) Actually I've never even seen a DDR machine but if you want to go to an amusement park, pay $10 to park, $30 admission and spend all day in the arcade more power to you. I'll just wait for you outside on the flyers. :)

I respect your view about PKI, as everyone is entitled to their opinion. Not everyone *has* to like PKI, or any park for that matter.
However, with all due respect, you totally contradict yourself in your arguments. You state explicitly:
"I have more things I want to do then I have time to do them and life is waaay to short to give any extra time to experiences that no longer appeal to me. "
You seem quick on the draw to complain or spend time citing things you do not like about PKI. Again, you are absolutely entitled to that opinion. But the question remains... If life is too short to waste time on things that are not of interest to you, then why waste so much time complaining about them.
Heck, if I do not like something, I avoid it and try to remove it from my life. If asked, I'll give my honest opinion, but I will not spend a ton of time reliving grievances or airing frustrations. That's fruitless.

And just to avoid being entirely negative: I like Kings Island's train. I give them credit for still operating steam engines.
If a park had only one ride that I liked, I wouldn't go there at all, ever.
Den, if you don't like 'real' dancing, maybe you should listen to different music ;)
I'm not mad enough over the flyers to boycott the park or anything. I'll still go when I have a chance, but living in Colorado makes those chances fewer and far between.

Eventually every park you know is going to get rid of something you like. Will you cease to be a coaster enthusiast at that point and just stop going to parks altogether?
Almost every park I know of has removed something that I've enjoyed. Heck, even Knoebels- a park that many consider can do no wrong- removed their great little Jet Star and replaced it with Whirlwind. Ouch.
The thing is, parks often have a habit of removing the things that make them unique and call it progress. PKI got rid of their Flying Eagles, just as Dorney got rid of their Circle Swing and Worlds of Fun got rid of their Zambezi Zinger. I still have a desire to visit those parks but because of the changes, it isn't as great as it once was. I suppose I could sit here and talk about how certain decisions make good business sense, blah blah blah, but the point is, the removal of certain aspects of certain parks makes for a less enjoyable experience.
Take television- a lot of the shows I once enjoyed are now gone. Frasier. The X-Files. Seinfeld. Friends. NYPD Blue. It's safe to say that I don't enjoy TV nearly as much as I used to. Does that mean that I'm not going to watch TV anymore? Hell no. But it does mean that my enthusiasm for that particular kind of entertainment is dimished. I'm still an entertainment junkie but TV no longer offers all that I want. I'm still an enthusiast but Dorney Park no longer offers all that I want. It's that simple.
It just seems like a poorly thought out decision.
But here in the office, waiting for some moron to call and ask why their computer screen, aka monitor, is blank (have you checked the power strip?) ;), I'd just as soon tell the parks what *I* think would be best for them....if their park is highly PROFITABLE, then chances are good that I'll get *something* I like in the future....if not, then they'll STILL build something to draw crowds away from the attractions that I *do* like....either way, my opinion can ONLY be counted if I make it known...;)
edit: It should be noted that I'm not afraid to look ridiculous, in fact I *cherish* it...:)

And regular dancing looks just as ridiculous, if not more so. Especially when guys do it.
THAT I do agree with. In that case, why pay to play DDR when you can look ridiculous for free?
The same person that I saw whining about Geauga Lake last year has now moved onto King's Island. Being pessimistic must outweigh being an optimist because nothing has changed at all.
I am a 2005 PKI and 2005 Cedar Point season pass holder and I'm darn glad to be one! I'm not going to stop going to a place where I can hang out with my friends because a ride that I loved was taken out. Yes, I too was a 'Frequent Flyer' but the whining and the personal attacks are just plain stupid. I can't believe that 6 months later this is still a sore subject with enthusiasts. I'm going to miss the Flyers as much as anyone else, but that doesn't mean I'm going to stand outside of PKI holding signs telling everyone else to boycott the park. Why don't you go to Carowinds if it eats you that much?
Please understand that you are going to get absolutely NOTHING done by being a pessimist. You're going to sit there gripe, whine, and personally attack others to make yourself feel better all the while everything else will pass you by. There is nothing wrong with disliking the park for what they did, but there is EVERYTHING wrong with crucifying others because they still like the park.
GROW UP
~Rob "Yep, I still look like a kid, but a bit more grown up" Willi
There is absoutely nothing wrong with people voicing their opinions. Not everyone shares the "suck up and deal, take whatever comes my way" attitude that you have. This isn't Nazi Germany, this is America where democracy is the order of the day and people can express their opinions.
And you're telling others to grow up? That takes balls.
It's not difficult to comprehend, it's just difficult for many of you to accept. Paramount had to move a ride at PKI to make room for IJ, Carowinds needed something, however minor, to market this year, PKI has a ton of other rides, the switch was made. I'm sure 95% of visitors won't even notice. Makes perfect sense to me.

You might not agree with it or accept it, but the reason doesn't seem very complex to me. What annoys me are the idiots (some of whom frequent this site) that went out of their way to call newspapers and TV stations to make a big stink about it. Not a very mature response for a park that bends over backward for enthusiasts with little to no incentive for doing so. That's like being invited to a party and kicking the host squarely in the nuts and defecating on his lawn.

Remind me to speak to Gator about what he did at my post-Solace party last Sunday ;)
I think it is difficult for you to accept that Kings Island or Paramount or whoever owns the park this week could ever do anything wrong.
We aren't allowed to complain because the park "bends over backwards" for us? Sounds like bribery to me. Just because somebody does something nice for me once does not make them immune to criticism when they do something stupid. *** Edited 3/16/2005 9:05:17 PM UTC by millrace***
