Brawl closes SFMM on Saturday night

Did you not live here the year S:TE (didn't) open, or when X closed for an extended period several months after it opened, or any of the Deja Vu downtime?

To me it seems they don't have a great track record with the "big ones."

The majority of the crowd is made up of high school students. Unfortunately, LA does have quite a few gangs. Consequently, alot of gangbangers come to SFMM. However, they don't mess with people like us (who aren't in gangs or pretending they are). If they pick fights, it is among themselves. Yes, they do have metal detectors at the entrance, so I don't see how someone would bring in a gun or knife.

While it is a shame that an unsavory element can come into the park, I do not consider SFMM ghetto or unsafe. Given the choice between KBF and SFMM, I would take the Mountain any day. Personally, I think SFMM is one of the best Six Flags parks, considering the sheer number of huge rides. That, and only SFMM has X, which is my favorite coaster.

Correct. Washington, DC has quite a few gangs to most of them from Cali. It growing fast here especially girl gangs. As scooterdoug said, if you don't mess with them, they won't mess with you. People use to call SFA ghetto too, but I never seen it that way.

We did have fights at our parks in the past and language problem. Like I told people on SFA threads, SFA was not doing shows everyday (ex. batman spectacular... no shows on thursdays). Some teens started taking matters in their own hand and started entertaining themselves (ex. using language, joking around, and fighting).

This year SFA is being 100% commited this year. All rides open and running, more mechanics to fix broke down rides in about 10-15 mins, employees asking hows your day and cleaning everywhere, and playing all shows everyday. The shows are popular this year, and I seen some teens watching them. TRs have been good for this park so far, hopefully it will stay like that.

Which questions me how many shows does SFMM have? I don't also see SFMM being ghetto, and I agree with you (SFMM is in the top 5 best SF parks). Even though I haven't been to this park, I will be making my first appearance there in 2007. Also if I win the contest for SFMM, then I will also make it in 2005 hopefully.

P.S. When a ride breaks down at my park SFA, the employees will entertain you till the mechanics get it running again. *** Edited 5/28/2005 1:41:35 AM UTC by SF Critic***

I don't know ALL the Facts!!!!!!
So since SFMM has the most coasters in the SF chain, that automatically places it in the top 5? Interesting way of looking at things. This park is barely cracking the 2 million mark in attendance and it's a year round park so something is obviously wrong.

While I didn't mind the park on my recent visit, I could see where things could go horribly wrong during the heart of the summer when crowds thicken. My visit, crowds were moderate. On crowded days, this park just doesn't have enough to keep everyone occupied.

Another problem with this park is the lack of transportation to get around it. Considering this park sits on a mountain, not having some form of transit operating is really messed up. Either get that monorail up and running or get rid of it and replace it with something more modern.

I still would like to know why the tower hasn't been open in years? Makes no sense to me since all that is required to get up there are the elevators.

The waterpark wasn't open when I was there(February) but from what I saw they just crammed that thing into a tight space and to have it as a separate gate seems kind of a ripoff.

They do have a good collection of coasters such as Goliath, Scream, Riddlers, Batman, X, and Deja-Vu. Their wood collection is horrid however.

If I do visit this park again, it will always be during the offseason. Cooler temps and lower crowds help ease the frustration that I can see having on hot, crowded days. *** Edited 5/28/2005 2:24:23 AM UTC by Chitown***

I am not sure if I should be amused or horrified if you think that going to college and having no scholarships provided to you makes you poor.

I never said that going to college and having no scholarships makes me poor. I was just saying that I do have very little funds at my disposal. I have other reasons for my lack of money in addition to education being so darned expensive.

I'am sorry, but I had to respond to the statment that there is never more than one or two coasters not running at a time. I have been there many a time where that number is more like 7 to 8. If go go there and 11 out of 16 coasters are running I consider that one of their better days. I have also been there when only scream had more than one train running. I dont think that the park is dirty, but the customer service is definatly lacking. I went their one time and so many rides were closed and about 3 more rides broke down while I waited for them that in 7 hours all I got to ride was deja vu and psyclone. When I talked to guset relations they said that that was typical for a saturday! WOW! No apologies, no free passes, nothing. I guarantee knotts and disney would have at least TRIED to do SOMETHING, and I can say that because they have bent over backwards for a lot less. I love the rides, but the park is very unreliable and inconsitant. bottom line is if I go the knotts or disney I know Iam going to get my moneys worth and have a good time. I consider going to sfmm almost like a gamble. The riots were not sfmm fault. The people who were rioting and acting stupid are responible than that, but people tend to act more respectfully at a place that shows them respect and makes them happy which may be a part of the reason this stuff seams to happen more at SFMM.

I'm the one that made the original statement, but you just proved it even more. Eleven out of 16 is pretty bad, but 6 or 7 out of 16? Thats over half the coasters in a park down.

I never said rich kids don't cause trouble, i was just stating that Valencia is a nice upscale area becuase the question was asked...........what type of area is SFMM in? Besides it's known fact that the problems come outta the LA areas. When was the last time you saw a group of rich kids of any race in a riot? non violent protest maybe, riot very uncommon.

This has to be one of the most ignorant comments I've ever seen on Coasterbuzz. Have you seen what has happened after several college games? And, it doesn't matter whether or not the team has won the championship or not-they still riot. Now, let me ask you-who's going to the universities? Is it poor kids? Unless they have a scholarship, no.

Umm your the biggest idiot on CB for one universities do have alot of people with scholarships not everyone is rich. Most people parents have worked very hard in life to send their children to good schools this doesn't mean they're rich. You over sensationalizing things worse then the media, you act as if theres a riot after every game just as people are acting like theres a riot at SFMM every week. Also anyone can go to a university game not just the students that attented the school, so alot of the problems came come from outside sources, just like SFMMs problems come from outside sources.

Like i said rich kids are the least likely to incite a riot, i'm not saying they can't or wont. Ask your self when was the last time you heard about a riot incited at Yale, Harvard, Princeton these are very rich schools, UCLA might be a university but you don't have to be consider rich to go there. Anyways i never said rich kids or people were just incapable of inciting a riot, i just said it was very rare. Which it is rare and using a football game example is totally idiotic because like i said not all university students are rich so you have no point.

Wow, and I thought only the media overblew things to the point of absurdity. More proof sits here in this thread that they only reflect society's compulsion for "the world's coming to an end" high drama.

Suddenly, SFMM goes from a couple of out of control teens getting into fights, to gang bangers constantly patroling the park looking for their lastest victim/ fights breaking out at random/people ranting about Jessie Jackson. LOL, this is halarious.

Meanwhile...SFMM goes about it's daily business.

As for solutions, I'd combine a few ideas already brought up here. Drop the Play Pass crap, give up the "Xtreme Park" crap, and give the park the PKI style makeover. Add nothing but family style rides, flat rides and waterpark additions over the next several years. *then* you can justify raises season pass prices and so forth. No one in their right mind is going to pay $100 for a season pass with the park's current state, and the park knows this.

Simple, calm solutions. And you don't have to insult anyone's race, social status or even the city of LA to do it. ;) *** Edited 5/30/2005 6:20:42 PM UTC by DWeaver***
