Personally, I could give a rat's arse about uppercase/lowercase....as long as "gator" is in there somewhere I know it's me...;)
Confused....

But one point seems to be missed in this discussion: if SFMM only has 11 out of 16 coasters operating, that's still 11 coasters operating. That's still a worthwhile visit to ride 11 coasters, right? And what other park in Southern California or Northern California has 11 coasters?
Remember that SFMM is a year round park, even when it goes to weekend only operation, and maintenance has to occur on some rides at some point. Painting the rides would be nice, but keeping two or three train operation allows for better thruput.
And what about Disneyland's Space Mountain, since Disney parks were brought up in this discussion. Under refurbishment (SBNO?) for almost two years? Plus even if Flashback did reopen, isn't it generally regarded as a headbanger? *** Edited 5/25/2005 5:22:38 PM UTC by RideSafety***
Another example is KBF who will closes Ghostrider once a year and lets everyone know it is being closed for its yearly refurbishment.
Another example is actually at SFMM and X, it was closing every wednesday for awhile (still?) for weekly maintenance.
SFMM seems to just take their time getting rides back up and running, and now that it is getting to be the bsuy season again you would think they would have everything all set.

And yet, I would still spend my time and money at Knott's with it's handful of coasters and rides well before I would spend it at SFMM.
Certain victory.
I remember when I was young and thought more meant better, too.
Seriously, Wes (can I call you Wes? [rollseyes]), your argument is plainly understood. What most people are responding to is your completely belligerent way of stating your case. When you come off as such an ass (and you do, whether by design or not), you will get the type of responses generated here.
I've recently been to the 3 socal parks mentioned here. SFMM was my least favorite. I had a good time, to be sure. On that Sunday, I got my first taste of X, so you won't hear me complain. That said, I would still rather spend time at KBF (the overall better thrills, IMO) or at Disney (by far the most all-around "fun", to me).

They Live. We Sleep.
TeknoScorpion said:Which is why you are you, and I am myself. We have different tastes. I'd rather go to a park that seems to care about my experience. You'd rather go to a park that has 11 working coasters out of 16.
Damn right I would love to go to a park with 11 working roller coasters. I am 20 years old, not 43 with 4 daughters. When I am looking into where to go, the theming, scenery, and kiddie rides aren't something I care about. I like to have a good time, and thrilling coasters 'do it' for me at this time in my life. Maybe when I was younger, or when I'm older I would/will agree with you all, but right now, I am into thrills and Magic Mountain appears to have just that.
But as of the brawls are you sure that they really need LAPD patroling the park. I respect the LAPD in every way but as of lately they really arent the model of a safe enforcement system. There are going to be fights every now and then. I really dont mind them my solution is not to get involved with them. There are stupid people out there ala Pistons vs Pacers brawl who do stupid things and thats life. Thats why Knotts and Disneyland doesnt have a season pass as cheap as SFMM does and thats why they have a better enviornment towards families. But we all know SFMM cant afford to raise its prices or its attendance would drop.
Granted SFMM doesnt have any flats or more rides and they have a bunch of coasters but has anyone looked at the name of the site recently its called Coasterbuzz not flatbuzz or familybuzz we go to SFMM for the roller coasters period. Who goes there for the flats.
I really dont know what race or sexual preference has anything to do with park goers and what goes on but if anyone else who lives in LA besides me knows there is tension between the black and mexicans so it really wouldnt surprise me if thats who was involved in the fights.

But when two or three of those 11 have single trains running (besides S:TE and Deja Vu), people can get a lil' cranky. And cranky people are more likely to bump heads with other cranky people and the next thing you know...
-'Playa
(who visited SFMM on a relatively, two dead coaster day...and still waited two hours for RR, X and refused to wait for B:TR or Deja Vu)

NOTE: Severe fecal impaction may render the above words highly debatable.

You're right. Eleven out of 16. Lets break that 11 down: Collossuck, a huge & rough disappointment. Psucklone, not a disappointment because I knew it would suck. S:TD (Superman: The Disappointment). Revolution, a butchered Anton. Goldrusher, a rather dull Arrow Mine Train. That left me with 5 coasters I liked. Heck, I liked 6 out of the 7 I was able to ride at Knott's the day before, plus Knott's has great flats and great dark rides. Oh, the the wood there doesn't kill you. Oh, and the Launch coaster there actually launches, instead of meandering down the runway. Oh, and the Invert at Knott's was something I can't do at a billion other parks in the country. Oh, and Knott's has a boomerang coaster that was actually working. Oh, and Knott's Anton was blissful. Need I go on? Quality over Quantity any day. I'd rather have one pure bred cat than 20 cockroaches.
Remember that SFMM is a year round park, even when it goes to weekend only operation, and maintenance has to occur on some rides at some point. Painting the rides would be nice, but keeping two or three train operation allows for better thruput.
Actually, I mentioned that I was okay with Deja Vu being closed, cause I knew it would be closed. Ditto with Flashback. Two or three Train Op? Granted, Riddler's and Goliath and X had those, even for ERT. But Colossus, which is a double tracked coaster, had only ONE train on ONE side working. And a 75 min. wait. And they let Fastpass people board almost an entire train.
And what about Disneyland's Space Mountain, since Disney parks were brought up in this discussion. Under refurbishment (SBNO?) for almost two years? Plus even if Flashback did reopen, isn't it generally regarded as a headbanger?
But Space Mountain is getting completely rebuilt. It is almost like getting a whole new coasters, 2 if you wanna go the Rokit Mountain route. Flashback has been closed for longer, and you're right, even if it was open, I'd still rather go ride Space Mountain, which probably isn't as rough as Flashback.
And to Word-you're right. I was agreeing with you. There was a time I'd have rather had gone to SFMM than Disneyland. When I was 20. But then I grew up. No, that wasn't a stab at you, even if you're trying for one. That is the truth. Now that I've grown more, matured more, and can actually buy my own beer, I realized that my tastes have become more distinguished. Like I said, you Like Potatoes, I like Pizza. Niether are bad, I can dig Potatoes. But when I sit down at the buffet, I'll be drippin tomato sauce on my shirt.
Really the main reason I won't go to the park is because I am a poor college student that can't afford to go cross country to an amusement park, especially when there is one at my back door! And who would want to go to a park that has guests that are so rude and cause riots? I am a firm believer that the guests in a park will react accordingly to the way they are treated by park staff. Based on that, I would say that the park staff at magic mountain is not very good. Now all of this is just speculation, as I have never been there, but it has just been my limited experience that this is the way things are.
Edited to fix a ridiculous spelling error. I should ahve known better! ;) *** Edited 5/27/2005 2:23:34 AM UTC by a_hoffman50***
Really, if six flags is trying to get there act together, this cant help. I admit that cp is my home park, but I also like to travel to other parks because I am a park enthusiest.
I have been to many parks, and 2 of the worst parks I have been to are six flags parks(sfkk, sfa). But 2 of the best parks I have been to in the six flags chain are six flags in new jersey and six flags in chicago. I really do like the six flags parks and the rides they have, but the service and all the rides that are broken down seem to be a problem at all of the six flag parks.
I am not being a cp fan boy by saying this, so dont jump all over me. I very rarley run into these things at a cedar fair park or a busch owned park or even a private owned park as much as I do at a six flags park. Sure it happens at other parks, but its just not as common as it is at a six flags park.
Its a shame too, because I do not want to see six flags fold, I want to see them survive so I can continue to visit there parks and be able to ride all of the rides they have to offer.
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Of course you don't! How much do the season passes cost at those parks?

Me too!
I'll even throw in that I think how the staff treats the guests reflects how the management treats the staff. And that is why, when you CAN go across the country and travel to parks, you'll find yourself going to places like Holiday World and Knoebel's again and again...
Andrea ;-)
