BGT New Coaster for 2005!

Everyone always has these theories about why there haven't been more dive machines built. My theory is that park execs have gone to Alton Towers, been unimpressed, and feel that money was better spent on something else.

Call me stupid or whatever gets you off, a dive machine would not be a compelling reason for me to travel anywhere to ride. Not saying it wouldn't be nice to try it, but I haven't crossed the pond just to ride it. I suspect that a great many park execs feel the same way.

I am going to have to disagree. Maybe they are not that fun, but that is not what is going to drive the decision. A dive machine has a pretty decent trick that can be marketed, and BGT is the perfect park for it. It has more tourists than most parks so it does not have to rely on repeat visits from locals so much. If any park can pull of the one trick pony, it is BGT. I can just see the billboards all over Orlando convincing people to make the trip. *** Edited 4/27/2004 6:24:33 PM UTC by RavenTTD***

"...a dive machine would not be a compelling reason for me to travel anywhere to ride."

Funny, that's how I feel about Dragster.

BURN

I think its a flashback clone. . .

Down is the new up.

I doubt Jeff feels burned by that...it's not how I intended it.

If BGT and BGW could just switch their employees, THAT would make *me* visit more frequently...

Never ceases to amaze me how good the Orlando-area employees are by comparison...

bill, wondering if the "new" coaster is just a PR way of saying they're going to run BOTH sides of Gwazi....now THAT is a "burn"...;)

Not at all. I've been on it and I don't find it a compelling reason to visit the park. Millennium Force... perhaps. Dragster, no.

"6,000 nor 15,000 sq. ft. is a lot of space."

You're not kidding! Assuming one story is 10 feet high, a single-story building with 15,000 square feet of space would measure 100x150 feet
I doubt you're gonna see a sizeable indoor coaster in a building that small.

mOOSH

Edited because I had originally calculated cubic feet, not square feet. *** Edited 4/27/2004 8:47:08 PM UTC by Mamoosh***

... unless it's a powered Dragon coaster that is ;)

LOL Brett...now that would be hysterical! I edited my post to include "sizable."
It's all about size to you, isn't it, mOOSH?

;)

Or better yet, DUELING indoor powered Dragon coasters! They could definitely fit two in there, then BGT could be the first park with two dueling coasters that only run one side ;)

(And on the Dive Machine note, that would definitely not be a draw for me to go back to BGT. There's no way a company that publically stated in the last couple of years (which made news on this board) that it doesn't want to invest much capital in its parks is going to spend the money for a Dive Machine that could even *hope* to compete with Montu or Kumba)

I've got to agree that a one trick pony wouldn't draw me that distance.

Oblivian alone wouldn't draw me over to England. However I did travel across the continent to ride "X", which is not a one trick pony.

I'm just curious what all the people who are here saying they don't think it would be a Dive Machine think of Mike Yeager, a park manager saying it will be a B&M Dive Machine. Do you think he is just lying, purposefully trying to mislead people? Do you think he doesn't really know? Do you not believe that he really said that? Because it sure seems rather likely based on his comments that a Dive Machine is indeed in the works for BGT.

It also noticed a lot of the comments on the matter in this thread are reminding me of the whole Hersheypark debate back last year, when people wondered what their new ride would be. A lot of people gave reasons why there was no way it would be an Intamin Rocket Coaster, but then it turned out to be just that. This has the markings of that happening again all over it.

I personaly think that a Dive Machine would attract a lot of attention to BGT, and not just from enthusiasts. Besdides, I bet that a lot of the people who are saying now that they wouldn't go next year if it's a Dive Machine would change their mind if it is indeed what it is. From what those who've ridden it have said, it sure sounds like it's a fun ride. I'm not sure why everybody's so skeptical. Let's hope we get a chance to find out for ourselves. :) *** Edited 4/27/2004 9:20:36 PM UTC by DILinator*** *** Edited 4/27/2004 9:22:03 PM UTC by DILinator***

If he's telling the world what it is, I'd expect he won't work there much longer.

The dive machine is kind of a moot point unless someone turns up some dirt to indicate this unlikely style of coaster is even being considered.

So what's the deal with this Yeager guy? Is he just telling stories? I'm sure he wouldn't go spouting off to a web site if he wasn't supposed to. Maybe it is just a ruse, but I kinda' doubt it.

Yeager is manager in the park, but not THE park manager. While the D&M Diving Coaster is certainly a possibility I wouldn't put all my coaster eggs in one basket.
How do we know he said all that stuff anyway?? Its bgtguide not CNN.

There are no bad coasters, only better coasters!!

So is an Intamin Rocket out of the question?

I survived a Japanese typhoon and the Togo flat ride of death!!!!!!
