Any Michigan's Adventure news?

Preferred parking means you won't have to walk to the gate all the way from mid-Timbers.

Raven-Phile's avatar

If you even know what that means...

I know what preferred parking is. I just found it interesting they are paying somebody to watch an empty preferred parking area.

I just posted what I saw on a tuesday, you didn't have to be a pompous d-bag telling me what preferred parking is. But, thanks for letting me know what it means anyways.

Back read the thread before you fly off the handle. It's a meme around this site. I'm flattered that you think I'd waste my time being a "pompous d-bag" to you about something you posted because you saw it on a Tuesday, or whatever, but it has absolutely 0 to do with you.

I still don't get what a meme is even after reading the meaning you sent. But, sense I flew off the handle I apologize.

For lack of a better description, it's a coasterbuzz internet joke.

You see, timber-rider said something about parking mid-timbers "if you even know what that means", somewhere in this thread. It was ridiculous to the point that we use it as a joke now.

I read whole thread awhile ago, but still didn't get the joke until now. My sincere apologies, and thank you for making that term more reasonable for my simple mind to understand. Also, after reading through the thread again I didn't realize that timbers brought up preferred parking and here I brought it up again on accident.

If you want to know what I meant by parking mid timbers, go to The Day In Pictures gallery, and look for my Michigan's Adventure seeing is believing on a busy day. And you will see what Mid Timbers means. A very LONG walk. It's not a joke. It's a fact.

As for special parking. Good lord. How much are they charging for that? I was hoping to let this thread die a slow horrible death, but MA proves once again where their heads lie. I won't comment further....well maybe.

Hey guys, I love the running CBuzz jokes as much as anyone, but if someone comes along who doesn't get it, there's no need to jump on them. If you didn't know the joke, you might think the response was aimed at you, too. Especially if it's posted based on what you said. I don't have time to read every post these days either, and I sometimes skim all of the jokes.

Just my two cents, of course.

But Carrie, inside jokes are where it's at! Or recurring jokes. Or Maverick.

Despite being a Michigander, I'm not a big fan of Michigan's Adventure, and have had a generally bad attitude towards the park for a variety of reasons, the main one being the lack of any real reason for a thrill rider to enjoy the park, outside of ST. Even the water park, while great for a water park, is always too crowded for me to really enjoy. As such, I haven't been to the place in years, and didn't have any plans to go, until they got something new.

However, now that my oldest child is of age, and is starting to really get into coasters himself (after a recent HersheyPark trip), suddenly, I find myself wanting to take him to MIA, and planning a trip for later this year! It's interesting how a different perspective can change things, and while it will probably never be a haven for coaster enthusiasts, MIA certainly can play out well as a smaller family park, which I guess is just as important and useful in the grand scheme of things!

Hey Krakenator. I brought my older brother to MA a couple years back, and he actually liked the park for it's rides. But, like me, he thought it was way too expensive for what's there, and probably won't go back again, unless I ask him to go again. I have a couple friends who used to go there with me as well. But, they also said they would rather save up for Cedar Point or Great America, then go back to MA again. To get their money's worth.

I agree that I probably won't go back to the park, unless it adds a decent new ride in the future. And, with the subject of two rides leaving Cedar Point next year, it's possible that one might go into MA as a 2013 ride. I will hope for a brand new thrill ride. But you never know.

There was a rumor spread by the local press back when Thunderhawk was being built, that a five year plan included an unusual dive coaster. But there hasn't been anything said about that since. I'm betting something similar to Steel Hawg or Rock bottom plunge might be on it's way. That I would certainly go back for!

Nothing to do with any news, but we were in line for Wild Mouse (5 minute wait) last week and witnessed some people that actually bought Fast Lane. The rides were no longer than a train wait to 5 minutes long. We couldn't help but laugh! Shivering Timbers was a "pick any seat except for the front" wait, and the front was just an extra train wait. And I can't forget to mention the lonely person manning the preferred parking lot, lol.

A nice park that has a lot of potential. I'm sure a lot of people would just be happy if they added an extra entrance for the water park side. That's a long walk back and forth to the car. A path connecting the back end of the park would be nice as well. The "pond" definitely needs a ride(s) in and around it.

This is exactly what I am saying when it comes to Cedar Fair and Michigan's Adventure. What's good for one park, does not mean that you need to do it at every park. Preferred parking, not needed. Fast Lane.. not needed. If they would just use common sense, they would find that these programs are useless at a park as small as MA. I actually thought it was pretty funny too, mainly because all it's doing is making people ask why...or in internet terms WTF?!

People are already complaining about having to pay $10.00 to park the car, and, they want to charge more to allow people to park closer to the gate? I also recall when people were making a huge stink about the $10.00 lockers, that used to be only 50 cents. And, the outrageous price of food is still a huge complaint. There is just no logic. Why make your customers question your business?

People on this board can debate that all they want. But, they never take into consideration that the GP is not the typical coasterbuzz member. Most of the people in Michigan, who make up a large portion of MA's customer base don't go to 20 parks a year, and can't afford to hop on a plane to go park hopping, or own a season pass to 4 or 5 different park chains. Most are just lucky enough to save up enough money to go to the park once or twice. And those who have season passes, just buy the MA passes and not the platinum, and usually live less than an hour away. Some locals are there every day. I know, because I have talked to them.

Yet they still bring people in the gates, and they're still quite profitable. It's ALMOST like they... wait for it... know what they're doing!

Hi

I also don't think WTF is just an Internet term. :)

And by extrapolation, building a bunch of new thrill rides when MiA still has excellent attendance ... wait for it ... wait ... not needed!!

There is so much win in that post.

Timber-Rider: How much of a punching bag do you need to be before you get the whole thing about the park being a business?

Jeff - Editor - CoasterBuzz.com - My Blog

I actually get where both points are coming from. All that preferred parking and FOL access probably AREN'T necessary at a park like Michigan's Adventure. Does Cedar Fair need to upcharge everything there? No. Especially if they're not making an effort to improve the park with new attractions. However, if you look at it by saying all that stuff isn't necessary, then new rides certainly wouldn't be necessary either.
