Another Hersheypark story on local NBC news

If someone does, will you care? :)

It would go a long way towards making me believe these sorts of things make any sense, are actually useful & well thought out and aren't more than a way to keep a certain minority amused with busy work.

I think the fact that no one else that I know in my personal life will have a clue even next year that Hershey has a new coaster has me leaning toward the latter. And if they were privy to some of the earlier clues about the new attraction, I guarantee they would have lost interest in a matter of minutes, or possibly seconds. So yeah, I think it's safe to say, whether or not this is the park's intention, that it's primarily aimed at coaster dorks with a lot of time on their hands.

The first news story referenced in this thread about the "clues" told me that there would probably be a new coaster coming to Hershey in 2012. However, I just mentally marked the date of the announcement (today) and waited patiently, enjoying summer 2011 without driving myself buggy with vague clues about next year.

Oh that's definitely who the game is for.

I need someone to convince me it makes any sense and isn't just random pieces of nothing. Because it seems like there's no accountability in hindsight. Everyone talks about the clues, but once the announcement is made - all those little tidbits are forgotten. I've been convinced for a long time that it's not nearly as well thought out as some coaster dorks like to believe.

I'm not going to waste my time, but I wonder - does any of it make sense in hindsight?

Oh, gotcha. Sorry, I completely misunderstood what you were asking. My ADD kicked in early on in the game, so I honestly have no clue.

Apparently like with Fahrenheit, 24 people who they thought played the game well will be somehow rewarded. Hope this time the ride doesn't valley during test runs on opening day (right, Bill?).

"Congratulations to our distinguished class of 24 new Jr. Researchers. Official letters of notification will be sent by close of business today."

All I got was that the one researcher was an accomplished skydiver, and the RIT shield shows 12 stars. I was hoping Gonch would tell us what the "white dwarf particle" was about. j/k

I just happened to see a screenshot from the POV video and it appears that the train has Intamin lapbars, not OTSR. Now I know that the video shouldn't be something to go by, but once you take into account that it is a custom No Limits train (which take some decent time to create, and I don't even know if any plain old person can make them) you have to think that the train is probably correct.

They couldn't even get the colors right. I don't have high hopes for restraint accuracy. ;)

I picture the capacity getting slowed down from people fighting for the outside seats.

Maybe the park can just charge $50 extra for the perk of being allowed to enjoy an outside seat. ;)

What do they mean about the 270° panoramic view offered by these special seats? I kind of don't get it.

The animation sucks too.

Other than the presentation, the ride might be kind of fun. Let's hope that the park can keep it open, and that it doesn't kill or seriously maim anyone. ;)

Since it has lap bars, you will be able to turn your torso and head and look around - approximately a 270 degree range (how do you do that little degree symbol?)

Billy

I'll be the first to say that I am disappointed how short the ride will be, but judging by the layout it looks to be an intense 63 second ride. :)

Hersheypark being my home park I am happy that they are finally getting the long rumored hyper. I am excited about the lapbar only restraints, the lift similar to Maverick, and the new trains. I was hoping for the rumored tunnel on the first drop into the creek, and the pass through the Comet. Oh well! Can't have everything. ;)

Herheypark suffers from Pennsylvania Coaster Syndrome. For some bizarre reason, many if not most coasters in the state seem just a bit too short, especially when compared with coasters in adjacent states.

That's because all those other states are flat.

Ah, that old villain, topography.

Billy, I make a ° by pressing command (or whatever it is called on a PC), option (or maybe it is called alt on a PC), and 8 at the same time, unless a PC is different. It's like you are telling your computer that you are looking for an alternative to *.

That's how I do it on my Mac. It might be different with a PC.

That 207 ° description is goofy; unreasonably goofy.

No such feature on a PC. If I need to use the degrees (°) symbol, I Google 'degrees', find the symbol and copy/paste it. Or just copy/paste one Travis happens to post, as I did in this post. :)

It's a bit more work than most people would do, but I typically take my time with all my posts...which also usually means typing out full words so people don't have to spend their time Googling acronyms. :)

I Google some symbols and then copy and paste, if I can't find the symbol in my character palette. I forgot to suggest that.

I just read that another way to type a ° symbol on a PC is to hold alt and type on the number keypad (not the numbers at the top of the keyboard) 0176. ° will be displayed when the alt key is released. Copying and pasting seems a lot easier.

Cool. Now I have to remember the combination, which is not going to happen. :)
