Not peer reviewed! (Bingo!)

I actually didn't read the article and don't have an opinion on the actual science behind it, but the meme was calling.

They're only 17% fully vaccinated. I can't say I entirely blame them. If Delta really got out of control it would be pretty devastating.

That's a surprisingly low figure for a country where the restrictions have been so severe and the population seems to have gone along with them. You would think getting everyone vaccinated would cost less than three days of strict lockdown.

The nations with the money and the vaccine manufacturing capacity are the ones with high rates of vaccination. Scientists have been raising that concern since before the vaccines even started trials, but instead we're throwing expired doses away while skeptics don't get vaccinated.

Well, NZ has the money - their GDP per capita is more than the UK. Hadn't thought about manufacturing capacity, though. Presumably they have to import every dose they administer.

High GDP by itself isn't enough. High per capita GDP plus more people is where you have to be. NZ's per cap is 4x what China's is, but there are a whole lot of people in China. They have more buying power.

I find myself alarmed at the seriousness of the situation today, and I've been fairly carefree since getting vaccinated (aside from concern for my kid). A friend of mine here in suburban Orlando fell, suffered a pretty big gash in her knee. She went to the ER nearby, and place is swamped. She checked in, and the receptionist had her wait with her on the other side of the desk, because everyone else was there with what they assumed was Covid symptoms. There were no treatment rooms, so a nurse practitioner set her up on a random counter in the lobby, and gave her stitches there, in the most sterile and guarded way that she could. The NP confirmed that the hospital was full, and about 50% of the patients were non-vaccinated Covid cases.

That's not something that I would ever expect to describe where I live.

Alarmed indeed! A friend of mine who got both Pfizer vaccines in March/April, now has covid. Guess when they say 95% that leaves 1 in 20 to get it. He's improving (very strong and resilient 74 year old!) and is ok at home.

^I've also been carefree since my vaccines, and I hate those masks... but I'm putting mine back on for a while.

So, I don’t know. If you have Covid and you aren’t vaccinated you get bumped to the back of the line at the hospital, or they only dedicate x number of beds? That solves the hospital clogging issue. So…. Let it roll and call it a day?

Or is that too simple?

So if you designate X beds for COVID patients and the rest for everyone else, does it make sense to sit with empty beds if everyone else isn't using them?

You should get sent to the tent outside the hospital where people tell you that covid-19 isn’t real, vaccines aren’t safe and effective, and that you can buy some essential oils for treatment and be on your way.

Free vaginal stone eggs from Goop if you're a liberal, or MAGA hat if you're a Trumpie, but only if you act now!

which is why (since we had the money and the production capacity) it was paramount that we got everyone in our country vaccinated first, (as to avoid variants and 4th wave) so we could then direct the resources to the rest of the world. However, we let the SRMF in the hillbilly south do what they've done. Now we're effed, and the rest of the world is looking at us like the fools we are, and will demand their first shot (pun intended) at the vaccines since we don't have common sense to use the benefits we had.

I have zero, and I mean zero tolerance for anyone unvaccinated at this point. Stick them in a tent together with a crate of tots and pears, a maga hat and a bible. Leave the rest of the spaces for those that were vaccinated or who legitimately couldn't get a vaccine.

Governor Hot Wheels getting a third dose, and Regeneron, after showing up at an event the night before, un-masked and fighting school mask mandates, is just about the most hypocritical thing I can imagine. And it's totally on brand for the GOP.

So, after 15 months, I will reiterate my comments from the very first post, though it might be too late at this point. If you have investments in the parks, Cruise lines, airlines, hotels, and casinos, it might be time to take your chips off the table. You've had a good run. Things are about to get super ugly, and one only has to go back to Feb 2020 to know how that can play out. Unfortunately, the "re-opening" stocks have dropped about 20-25% from their highs earlier this year, so you may be a bit late, but there's still a long way to drop.

Hotel rates and reservations are plummeting in SoCal and Las Vegas. Airline sales have popped up in the last few days that far exceed normal "Fall" sales, and are a sharp contrast to just one month ago. Orlando is about to enter the off season for domestic travel (even though the HalloweenTime is lucrative, most of it is regional) but I suspect they're seeing the same thing for park reservations and hotel bookings. In other words, consumers are freezing up, even if there aren't state closures yet. Pay attention and don't be caught holding the bag this time.

You live in Florida, we've been predicting this for several months. It shouldn't be a surprise.
