Shanghai Disneyland will close in effort to contain coronavirus

Posted | Contributed by Tekwardo

Shanghai Disneyland will close its gates on Saturday in an effort to stop the spread of a new SARS-like virus that has killed 26 people and sickened at least 881, primarily in China. It’s not known when the theme park may reopen.

The graphic is simply showing that the overwhelming majority of people being admitted to the hospital are unvaccinated.

From the link:

Getting the COVID-19 vaccine is the number one way to prevent severe illness and death.

I understand that and I agree with the conclusion, but the data presented in no way supports the conclusion.

I could just as easily say "the overwhelming majority of people being admitted to the hospital have two arms" and make a nice chart that's mostly people with two arms and make the exact same case that cutting off an arm prevents Covid, which it obviously doesn't. Nothing you said or the chart said or the conclusion said is wrong, but the data does not imply the conclusion.

mental note to self: After you hit the 'submit reply' button, go look for info on how the hospital beds per capita of different areas compare. If it matches up with the above urban/rural theory, come back and add that to this post...

I never did look that up, but from my hotel bed in Miami I just came across an article that says Macy's seems to be seeing a sales difference based on this same divide. (well, urban/suburban because there are no rural Macy's stores - but same idea)

The City of Orlando is asking residents to reduce water consumption due to COVID-19, because the liquid oxygen used to treat water is being diverted to hospitals to treat COVID-19 patients.

Weird, that article says that 40% of water usage is irrigation, which implies that OUC doesn't have reclaimed water. Orange County Utilities, which serves the rest of the county, certainly does, and you know it because it smells funny when you water the lawn.

Does that mean you have two separate water supplies coming into the house - one being potable and the other being reclaimed?

I know a lot of septic systems use reclaimed water for irrigation. And obviously there's a funny smell associated with that.

Yes, but the reclaimed water never comes "in" to the house, it comes to a valve connected to a timer on the side of the house.

We have potable and non-potable water at our place. The non is for the outdoor spigots only and for our irrigation system. There’s savings in that the county water supplier doesn’t charge the user for sewer on that part of the bill. For us it may be a wash because we have a backflow valve that has to be inspected every year too.

Just because, semantics, it’s all reclaimed water.

Yea, we are all drinking pee.

Well it only took one week to have two Covid cases at my kid's small private school of 70 kids, and it's not even subject to DeSantis' moronic ban on mask requirements. Go Flori-duh!

And this is happening across the country, with a significant number of school systems (northeast) not yet back in session. College kids are moving into dorms this weekend for most of the non-Northeast, and well, you can see where this will be headed.Certain entertainers are cancelling tours (e.g. Garth), and others will surely follow suit (I doubt those Stones shows happen, especially now that Charlie is sidelined for other health reasons). There's a reason you haven't seen any promos/trailers/etc for the upcoming Spiderman MCU movie, as it's most likely going to be pulled, thus throwing the Disney machine into cascading steps of chaos. MGM may be stuck with no other option for James Bond "No Time to Die", but with movie theater business drying up, it will most likely force MGM into another BK filing (Chapter 33 anyone?).So, now would be a great time to take a hard look at your individual investments and financial position, make what changes you can, and be prepared because the next months are going to suck.

All that makes sense if we lived in reality.

Nine Inch Nails cancelled their tour. Remember when rock-n-roll was dangerous? It has more sense than DeSantis.

It seems like the bands that can actually afford it are canceling. Other bands aren’t so well off after the last year and the clubs they are playing in are in the same boat. Fans clearly want to see live music. I went to two different shows this week, Between the Buried and Me at a small club, Green Day and Weezer at PNC Park. Both were sold out.

My daughter, having just started middle school, had to quarantine this week due to close contact with two positive cases in her school. Right now the entire Brownsburg school system has 1000 kids out on quarantine. The school board voted last week to reinstate a mask mandate, and (some) parents responded by posting flyers around town with pictures of the board members along with their phone numbers and home addresses. Good times.

The music industry is so broken that the only way for most bands to make money is to tour. I'm sure I'm the last person who actually buys these things called "albums" and doesn't use a streaming service. (Then again, I built my own online music player.) I desperately wanted to see Garbage last week in Tampa, opening for Alanis, but the thought of standing around a bunch of people in 90 degree heat just did not appeal to me.

I will never understand the anti-mask people. God forbid we should ever have to endure anything actually hard like war on our soil, because we will be completely ****ed. Does anyone actually want to do it? I sure as hell don't, and if these ****wits would have played along in the first place, we wouldn't have to.

Jeff - Editor - CoasterBuzz.com - My Blog

I still buy albums mostly on CD, sometimes vinyl and I use itunes for individual songs. I also occasionally steal stuff off youtube but only the stuff I can't just go out and buy like live versions of songs. Standing around anywhere in 90 degree heat even by myself for free doesn't appeal to me.

I’m not a big album person, but I could be the last soul purchasing physical copies of movies.

So did Garth Brooks.

But then again, what do I know?
