Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 begins to appear in stores

Posted Tuesday, October 8, 2002 12:56 PM | Contributed by Jeff

Roller Coaster Tycoon 2, the sequel to one of the biggest selling PC games ever, has started to appear on store shelves in the Greater Cleveland area a week before its scheduled release. Target stores appear to have a few copies, and EB stores say they expect it this week.

You can order Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 from Amazon.

A store can be penalized by the manufacturer for selling items before their release date. I ran into a similar situation earlier this year when Harry Potter was released on video and DVD. Someone in my store set up the display a week before the release date and by the next day we received warnings from Time Warner to pull the display down or we would no longer be able to sell new releases. Ship dates and release dates are two completely different things. Anyone that has a copy of RCT2 right now should consider themselves lucky.

Well I really dought Best Buy will put it out on the shelves before the release date. That's how I have to buy mine cause I don't have too much spending money but I do have a good amount of money in Best Buy gift cards. So it looks like the 15th is the day I'll get it.

Well, I work at target actually and I haven't heard anything about a pre-release but I'm not in the Ohio area :). Guess the best thing to do is check when I go in for work in an hour.

I went searching at both Wal Mart and Target here in Nor Cal, unfortunately they hadn't either received it yet or had and were waiting until the proper release date. DOH!! ;) Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait until next week to be in RCT 2 bliss.

All ya people that got, WRITE A SUMMARY, and FAST.

There's too much to cover. I've barely scratched the surface of what the game can do other than a spinning mouse. I've only started to play with the scenario editor and track editor.

One thing I don't like: When you test a ride, the timing for dispatch has no effect, so if you have cleverly placed blocks, they won't time right because the next train will dispatch as soon as the lift is clear. That's annoying, but if you green light the ride (and block the entrance path) you can see if your blocking and timing work.

On the positive side, scenery goes anywhere, you can shift-drag to start a ride platform off the ground, the ground edges are softer, there area a zillion coaster and stall types, the map can be HUGE and best of all, you'll really never need a trainer again.

Milwaukee West Allis Target store said they had it in stock but ran out. May not only be Ohio folks. Call your local Target.

Do the 5 recreated parks have all of the rides, like Mr Freeze and Batman at SFOT.

Just checked the Montgomeryville Greatland Target north of Philadelphia and they don't have any copies. They said the only thing they know is they will be getting it next tuesday.

Does anyone know if any other stores in the north Philadelphia suburbs have any copies? Also, I preordered the game from EB and I just called them and they said they expect to have it in their stores on the 15th. Does anyone know if the people who preordered it from EB will be receiving their copy before the 15th?

With the new blocking when a train is in the ride and one is on the lift does the one on the lift stop if the one is still in the next block?
