Cedar Point and Knott's removing VertiGo

Posted Wednesday, March 6, 2002 6:54 PM | Contributed by wkyc.com

Still unsure of what caused one of VertiGo's three towers to fall, Cedar Point and Knott's Berry Farm are getting rid of VertiGo. The press release indicates that the relationship with S&S Power, the ride's manufacturer, is still "strong."

Let the rumors begin, what will replace them at KBF & CP? I can see why CP may not put anything there in the immediate future, but at Knott's, it is inside the park. Dang, Knott's is having bad luck these days.

Wow! That's big news.

To tell you the truth though. I enjoyed their Supreme Scream and Tower of Power more.

I wonder what SFMM will do?

I rode it 2 times at KBF and it was immediately my favorite thrill ride even toping Big Shot on Strat. It was a great experience and I will always remember it.

It is good to know that the relationship between S&S and Cedar Fair is still strong.

Now ocmes the next set of rumors...what KBF will replace VertiGO with...

Sad day for thrill riders.

Personally, a slingshot would make a welcome replacement.

SFMM will probably take Thrill Shot down also for safety reasons. Maybe they could add some S&S Space Shot towers there or something. Anywho, that sucks.

I thought they said the reason that it broke was because they chose to remove the cables for the winter. While the cables allow the towers to sway about 5ft., without them the towers can sway up to 15ft., which was too much force and caused one of the towers to snap off. *** This post was edited by RCForeman on 3/6/2002. ***

I'm happy I rode the one at Knotts. I loved everything about it, and i really, really, really wish this wasn't happening...

To tell the truth, I loved the ride when I went on it at SFMM, but the one at Knott's just doesn't fit there. It should've been built in the back of the park. I mean, they put it in Ghost Town for criminy sakes. It's ok with the theming though because they put in a covered wagon behind the structure... ;) Seriously, it just didn't fit in the park for some reason. I hate to see it go away completely, but I'm glad it's going to be gone from within the Ghost Town area.

I was afraid this would happen. I wonder what will happen with the other parks that purchased one for the 2002 season? I can see SFMM following suit in about a week or two.

What a bad break for S&S (pun intended). I guess these rides are heading where Drachen Fire and Wind Jammer did.

"Some kind of haunted walkthrough attraction?"

Let's not and say we did...

Actually, I kinda saw this coming. The tone that Stan had at Coaster Solace kinda gave away the fact that there might've been talk of removal. In the end, I can see why. When a ride collapses, you don't want to chance it happening again! So I'm sure there are good reasons for the removal, but it is sad to see it go.

And especially at Knott's, I'm sure whatever they chose to do there next will be very worthwhile. But good lord, let's not bring back an attraction that didn't bring in any guests in the first place!

So this means no Vertigo ride for Cedar Point this year? This stinks I was planning to ride it during coastermainia at Cedar Point never got to ride it last year. Does Cedar Point still have plans to build a stronger tower for the Vertigo ride?
