Flying Turns Update

I think your looking at a late June soft opening with an early July Grand opening. That seems to be the rumor going around, but with Knoebels it's always subject to change.

The Williamsport newspaper had some construction pictures from Associated Press today.

I was really surprised at the downhill steepness of the pre-lift helix. Mr. Fetterman is certainly traveling into new territory as far as Flying Turns configurations go! I hope the resulting "wall action" will settle down quick enough for the lift. This first turn in the Knoebels Turns should be quite an eye opener for first-time Flying Turns riders!

Seeing the brake run with the shed over it...it's really starting to hit that the ride is *almost* done and the long wait *almost* over. :)

I'm glad to hear about the steepness of the helix. I was worried it was going to be a slow, weak part of the ride unless they had a dip at the top or made it steep. It should be an exciting pre-lift section kinda like Hades. I'm sure there will be a braking system prior to the lift. Since the trains aren't locked onto rails, it needs some sort of guide to make sure it attaches to the chain-lift correctly.

I like the way John started with an "existing" design but made some very interesting modifications to it. I know he has some other ideas so hopefully another park will want one of these babies and give him the freedom to get a little more creative if all goes well with the Knoebels ride.

Great new pics, but I can't see that last pic for March of the helix, it comes up as one of the bottom turns when I enlarge it instead of the right one. Anyone else have that problem? I can't wait for this ride though.

But who would be crazy enough to undertake building another one? :D

Great Shots Lado! I didn't know they had built that little building for what may be a photo shoot and I really wanted a closeup of the footers, especially that big one! Good Stuff!
