Flying Turns Update

Lot of activity on Webcam #2 today for those who are interested. Looks like the lift back to the station is taking shape.

You have disturbed the forbidden temple, now-you-will-pay!!!

knoebels will be opening in less than 10 days for the season... i wonder if they are putting up a temp. fence around the flying turns or if they are going to build one?

I was wondering that too, what they were going to do with that midway with the shooting gallery and Christmas Cottage.
From what I have heard the midway is still gonna be there, just gonna be a lot skinnier, and I'm sure the fence around the site will go back up, they had one last year.

Speaking of opening day, is anyone going? I'm planning on going with my brother and possibly my cousin.

Knoebels- 4/28

Right now I plan on being there on the 29th rain or shine. I may or may not be able to make it for a few hours on the 28th, and might bag that day in case of rain unless Sunday looks like worse rain.

i just was talking about how if they was going to put up a fence around the flying turns and looking at the webcams they must of done that this morning.

Yep, somewhere between yesterday and today they threw that up. Coastin' Steve has added some new photos to his own site, still looking for some new ones on the Smugmug site:

Any ideas on why the ribs for the section of trough leading to the brake run are grouped in sets of three? They seem to be evenly spaced on the rest of the ride.
We touch obelisk. We count more good now.

Seriously: not sure what you mean, unless it's that we commenced skipping an intermediate rib (one not involved in holding either the upper bumper or the lower bumper) once we got into the final, straight, lower-stress section. Actually, we don't skip so much as alternate an intermediate rib, one in place on the left and next one in place on the right side of track centerline. It looks like we are using fewer ribs, but actually we are using the same number but spreading them across a wider cross-section of trough.

Obelisk say not to spend too much money on barrel-faced contraption. Fewer ribs mean more banana. More bone.

I can hardly contain myself. Opening day is so close, and I plan on being there, no matter what. I am jonesin' for my Knoebels fix, and the airtime high of the Phoenix.

I seriously am looking more foward to this ride (FT)opening than any other coaster since Twister. It is nice to have a home park that cares!

Real men ride wood... coasters that is!
Unfortunately, it's looking like I won't be able to make opening day (except for possibly an hour or 2 in the evening.. working 2 jobs and both on a saturday sucks!) however I'm trying to clear other personal obligations to get there on the 29th! It's been too long (PPP) since I had a good Phoenix ride. :)

Luckily I have this Saturday off (no starbucks for me) , so i'm pretty sure i'm going. I'll probably be there from around opening to about 3, 3:15. I seriously can't wait for the Phoenix..airtime heaven ;) ahh

Great shots. I guess I didn't realize there was so much left to do. I wonder if they'll be done by Phun Phest.

Direct link to the Flying Turns aerials.

According to "CoastinSteve" who is on the construction crew they'll be picking up the pace of building. Open by PPP? I hope so ;)

I love how they wove the ride around the existing trees.
Having 14 hours or more of daylight for the next 4 months will certainly help a lot.
Good point Bear, and those aerial shots are awesome!
